This has been repeated constantly over the last couple of weeks and ramped up after the reports in the media about how unhappy the players are. Player power is often highlighted as a big problem here and that they have gotten managers the sack.
I really don't get this point of view because the squads were largely different in Moyes, LVG, Jose and Ole eras and they all brought in their fair share of players. I'd say the most player power weilded post SAF was the 2013 with Moyes and that was justified as you had a manager that was well beneath the standards of proven champions. There was no manager that you can say was unfairly sacked since Moyes, they all deserved to go at the time that they did, it really is as simple as that.
Under Jose, there was definitely tension between the players but that has been his MO since his spell at Madrid. The way he treats players especially in public will always lead to fall out. Jose downed tools after the board didn't sanction his signings, his sacking was less about the players and more about Jose and Ed.
Fast forward to Ole, by his own admission in his exit interview, he said morale was as good as it has been in years and the culture and positivity in the club was in a far better place than it was when he joined. He was just simply out of his depth and unable to progress any further with the side.
Players do bear some responsibility but I certainly don't agree that there our players are a snide, backstabbing and manipulative bunch looking to get managers the sack once things don't go their way. If you have a 23 man squad there will always be players that are unhappy, you are dealing with human beings at the end of the day. Coming into this season, City openly had 3 stars unhappy, Bernardo Silva, Laporte and Sterling were all vocal through representatives about their situations at City and this is for a title winning side. An underperforming team will always have low morale.
The biggest fault of the players is that some aren't good enough and some are past it. Ole did build a sense of entitlement in some players but that can easily be managed in the long run. A midfield of McT and Matic is a far bigger problem than any perceived player power or entrusting a physically shot nearly 37yo to be our talisman in the PL.
