A Clairefontaine product. That bodes well. Surely he's not just a left back? We're getting one of Brazil's finest young players for that position. Always a good day when we add highly rated talents to the academy though.

United bid for French starlets
Duo ready for Old Trafford switch

By Patrick Haond Last updated: 20th May 2008

Manchester United have made bids for French starlets Jeremy Helen and Darnel Situ.

15-year-old Helen is one of the most sought after teenagers in Europe and United look to have beaten Internazionale, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Newcastle and Everton to a deal.

Helen, a left-back, is currently with Rennes, who United have now opened talks with about a deal as he has a two-year agreement with the French side.

"The player wants to go to Manchester United," admitted Rennes general manger Pierre Dreossi.

"And they have made us an offer.

"We will gather our thoughts and see whether we will consider it or not, but we will defend our interests."

United have already made contact with the family of the Clairefontaine graduate and his mother has confirmed her son is set for Manchester after talks with Sir Alex Ferguson.

"Nothing is settled so far," she told L'Equipe.

"My son has signed a pre-contract with Rennes and we called for a specialist to look at it. Jeremy is a stable boy and I cannot see any difference between living in Rennes or Manchester if you have a good entourage.

"I will spend several months and years beside him if needed and my son and I have talked with Alex Ferguson."

Money not an issue

She insists that the move is not financially motivated and insists United offer him the best chance of progressing in his career.

"Internazionale, Newcastle, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Everton also contacted him. Money will not make his choice," she said.

"To him, Manchester offers the best career path."

Helen is currently a French Under 16 international and he could very well be joined at Old Trafford by compatriot Darnel Situ.

Situ - captain of the French Under 16s - is another player United have talked to and now they are closing on the capture of both.

Situ is currently attached to Lens, but like with Rennes, they look set to lose one of their prized assets.

I see City are going to try go the way of Chelsea and simply buying anyone we are linked with.

On a completely unrelated note, I have it on very, very good authority SAF has bid £40m for Carlton Cole.:smirk:

After the complete failure of any youth product to make an impact (or be given the chance to) at Chelsea under Abramovich, you'd think any youngster with designs on a decent career would shy away from a club like City. I guess money talks.

This kid Helan is a 16yo left back, any prospect looking to break through into that position could be forgiven for looking elsewhere having seen the quality of Evra and Fabio(18).

Yea but this does not necessarily mean that they have signed him does it? I mean he could be on trail for all we know.. Aren't clubs allowed to play players on trail for the Reserve and Academy fixtures..

I certainly hope so or we would be in big problems for using Lee Askham earlier in the season :)

Man City trumped Man Utd, Arsenal for France U17 captain Helan

Manchester City have trumped Manchester United and Arsenal for France U17 captain Jeremy Helan.

The former Rennes defender came close to signing with United earlier this season and was also courting interest from the Gunners.

However, City rushed through Helan's registration to unveil the youngster in yesterday's 4-1 win over Carlisle in the Totesport.com League.

Hmmmmmmmm tribal eh? Wasnt there an interview where his mother said that money wasnt the deciding factor for her son. If true I see his family has the same morals as Robben's family. Their fecking loss.

Agreed. Our left-back slot is sorted for the next 10 years I reckon. Wouldn't be surprised if it was United that lost interest, once we realised how amazing Fabio would become.

Hope, We Lose
Yeah makes sense I guess. If he's any good he'll end up taking over left back when Bridge's career is dwindling. And in the mean time he'll be his backup... Because if he cant get himself in the match squads over Garrido and Ball, then he's shit anyway.

 True,

Or another lost in translation mistake where the individual thought United, when they said no, City jacked the price 500%

Perhaps though I think he's equally comfy at CB.
