Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

Dortmund are evidently skint and need that cash injection immediately. Their cash reserves will have taken a battering considering most of their expenditure on wages etc. relies upon 80,000 fans attending their home games every other week. For that reason alone, I’d take their threat of doubling Sancho’s wages with a large pinch of salt.

They will crack first if we keep the pressure on and not give in to their demands. They have no other suitors for him this summer and they won’t want to lose anything up to £50m by selling him next year with only 12 months left on his deal.

Sancho’s team may need to apply the pressure as well but I can’t see the deal breaking down. All three parties evidently want it to happen and it’s just a matter of striking a deal where nobody loses face and everyone can claim a ‘win’.

I just don't get how you have so much confidence on Spurs and Arsenal improving but not the club that qualified for the Champions League and in most likeliness has the bigger budget, better recruitment in the last year and bigger appetite to spend.
Yet to be convinced by this until we get Sancho if we do I`ll keep quiet and again we were in this position in 2018 we had the best defensive record ITL and people probably thought a CB was not necessary and we wouldn`t have a very bad season yet we conceded 54 goals and went from 2nd to 6th. Being in the CL is irrelevant if you don`t invest or you`ll go 10 steps backwards like we did in 2018 or like we would have if we didn`t get Bruno. If we don`t get Sancho we will follow the same path as those on top of us keep improving and those below us catch up on us like the 18/19 season.

I'm not convinced about James but he's done enough to show he's an ok bench option but it's up to him to make a case for a starting role.

Zaha is not a player Ole would consider for the fee of about 60-70 million Palace would want, nor is he a player that is going to make us better
Agreed.

Its not a case of just finances Sancho won`t look at money but which club also has the best project. We may not be in the same position of strength in a year where we`ll be attractive enough to him. We had the best defensive record ITL in 2018 and Jose wanted a CB the board didn`t get him one we went on to have the worst defensive record in our history.Ole wanted a creative midfielder last year and when he didn`t get him and Pogba got injured we got seriously fecked until we got Bruno who bailed us out. What`s not to say not getting Sancho this summer won`t set us back to the extent we fail to get top 4 again? Will Sancho or any top player for that matter even want to join us even if we are "Man United"?? This procrastination attitude is what will always has us going one step forward ten steps backwards especially when the likes of Chelsea/City are spending and teams like Arsenal/Spurs likely to improve we have to get the player now not next year

We have invested heavily so this notion that we didn't buy one defender for Mourinho so everything went bad is not correct. Ole was adamant that he wanted certain type of player and those weren't available last summer, Bruno was not high on our list and Rashford injury forced our hand in January. We have more or less backed our manager. It's a shame we had Mourinho who wanted to moan more about it than manage.

We have to improve but current situation is nothing like we have seen before. No one knows when it is going to be better. Spending 120m on a player is huge financial risk. It's not just a question of whether we need a player or not, financial situation of the club is also important. I want us to buy Sancho but not at the cost that it ends up hurting us.

Also if Sancho is more happy with other "football projects" then he is more than welcome to go there. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. We have lost on Ronaldinho for God sake. We will be fine. I was more commenting on this belief that only way Sancho is going to sign for us is this season otherwise next season if more clubs are interested, we won't get him. That is simply not true

You think they would have spent all that money on Bellingham, a teenager who probably won't help them a lot short term, if they were so desperately broke?

So much focus on the fact that Dortmund want to double his wages. The contract terms that we have agreed with him just have to match it or top it slightly to completely bury that argument against the deal happening. And if I know our club right, we have offered him crazy money.
If its true, it their way of threatening to destabilise our wage structure. Not that we need help in destabilising our wage structure.

Maybe they thought United are going to pay whatever they want for Sancho?

Marcus Martial Mason

yes I am very happy with that when all fit and in form. But we have to have genuine competition for places. We shouldn’t buy anyone as a bench option. Every player we buy should expect to challenge for a spot in the team. With so many games, there are a lot of injuries and fatigue. Ideally you want 22 very good players. If you get that then you go deep into all the cup competitions and everyone gets 30 + games a season and stays fresh. In the crunch games you have options busting for selection.

Of course you can’t buy all these players in one or two windows but much better to buy one top player than two decent ones and I do think we should do what it takes to get Sancho.

I think you are getting this in a wrong way. Do we need Sancho? Yes absolutely. As what you mentioned we need him to provide competition for our front three & adding more quality in the squad.

However. Are we so desperate for Sancho? No. We shouldn't just be a good boy and do what Dortmund exactly ask for when we already have such a good front three. If Dortmund wants to play the hard ball then it's very stupid for them.

People wanting to skip Sancho to buy a CB and DCM instead. Really?
That's like turning down a De Bruyne talent. Those don't come along often.

Getting Sancho should be our top priority. I'll be amazed if he's not a ballon d'or candidate in just a few years.

I’m convinced half the people on here haven’t watched Sancho play. With Sancho I genuinely believe we could give city a run for their money on goals scored next season, we wouldn’t need to defend

Bellingham is an investment, like every signing Dortmund make. Buy young. Buy cheap. Sell for a profit. That’s the business model there and their timeline with Sancho would have been to sell this summer, no question. The pandemic and the financial uncertainty it brought to football only exacerbates this strategy (to sell this summer), IMO.

I will be amazed if a) Sancho doesn’t leave this summer, and b) he re-signs with Dortmund on better terms. I genuinely don’t think that’s an outcome Dortmund’s heirarchy want right now. They’d prefer to cash in whilst there’s still some semblance of financial outlay in football and bank the circa. £100m profit.

By the way, Bellingham - and Haaland before him - are huge coups for Dortmund and they are paying them a pretty penny, to boot. When I said Dortmund were ‘broke’, I didn’t mean they’re about to go under or anything drastic like that. Merely that they’re no longer in a position to refuse ~£100m offers for their players. The current climate doesn’t allow for that kind of risk, IMO. Take the money and run would be my line of thinking on this one.

Yes we are desperate for Sancho, we don't have a natural right winger. Greenwood has done incredibly well in that position but that's his secondary position. Sancho's signature is on the same level as Hazard signing for Chelsea or even Ronaldo at Real Madrid, it's going to shape our next decade.

I don't believe Twitter has an edit function (yet). Once you post something you can either leave it or delete it.
But there is a piece of software that lets you post tweets and change the time of tweeting. At least I think I've heard of it a few times before.

What the feck. Did he edit that tweet or is he some kind of wizard?
He's Norwegian.

I'm sure you could find something from Robbie Savage saying Giggs in 2023... if it ever happened, no one would be calling Robbie Savage a wizard.

Robbie Savage couldn't predict his next bowel movement.

In fairness the Norwegian has got that prediction spot on at a time where nobody would have expected Ole to get a sniff at the United job.

That's a pretty decent analysis from Fjortoft. He seems to know what he's talking about.

If you want to see something funnier, there's a gap of 4 managers before a long term manager that brings success is brought in (from Busbys reappointment to SAF to Ole)

Between Busbys last appointment there were 4 managers in between, then SAF, then 4 managers after SAF there is Ole, hoping there's a pattern at least.

SAF took 3 years for his first trophy (after his arrival) Busby took 2, Jose took 0 (his first year at the club the first campaign) meaning within his first year.

Hoping Ole can win a trophy this year at the very minimum.

Why are we so I'll prepared for every transfer window. It is the major reason we struggle and will likely remain to struggle to get back to the top.

Ole did his part the club have to do theirs.

Fjortoft is a bit of a prat. He doesn't really know anything, he just regurgitates what has been reported by Bild or briefed by Dortmund.

Sane with a year left in his contract = €45m and City isn't desperate for money.

Imagine if Dortmund refuses to sell Sancho this year, will they prefer to accept €45m for Sancho next year? Obviously no! They prefer to sell him this year. Calm down muppets!

The club is doing their job, they have been interested in Sancho for a long time.

It takes huge legal teams to scrape together a deal like this, I don't think it's as simple as people think.

It could just be a perceptual illusion. The more you fixate on transfer drama that isn't resulting on what you want, when you want it - the more you are inclined to believe your club were ill prepared.

My point is that it's not end of the world for us if we don't sign Sancho this year and this is the message that we should send to Dortmund.

Unless it's to protect the club from future gold diggers, I don't really see the point of this saga. You've identified a world class player in a position you're sorely deficient; just pay up and be done with it. The amount being quoted isn't really going to hurt the club. The biggest clubs hardly suffer from expensive transfers, and if he's a hit, it looks like clever business. Just get him already and stop the posturing.

Naah, that prediction if true was bothering on wizardry.

No one would have given Ole a chance speak less of the year he had become the manager considering at the time of prediction fergie was still the manager with no announcement of his retirement.

Crazy how the Havertz deal has seemingly dragged on for just as long or longer but people don't seem to care at all but with us we get all sorts of nonsense being reported about potential deadlines and whatnot when the transfer window has been open for a little over a week

Zaha also hasn't played on the right wing in about 5 years  mentioning him is a complete waste of time.

There is no point in the media shit stirring about Chelsea because they don’t generate clicks.

Dortmund have said a lot of things, do you really think they'll turn down €120m on the 11th? Or even the 20th? Doing some very quick maths, is easy to work out that Dortmund will not get more for Sancho next summer than they will this summer, even if there's a bidding war next year, it still won't rise to €120m.

When have we missed out on a target? And how would adding a DOF to the process of: Scouts identify player along with manager > manager speaks to Woodward > Woodward speaks to Joel Glazer to get approval to release funds > Woodward and Judge use intermediaries to broker a deal > negotiations take place > personal terms take place > player is signed.

You think adding more steps to that would speed things up?
i think getting Woodward out of the loop would help immensely - and there is no way we will bid £120m for Sancho
