Jonathan Tah

If he's replacing Lindelof I'm okay with him. Especially since he knows how to play in a back 3. Considering he's on a free, not the worst person to pick up

Would be a very good signing on a free. Good, experienced, well-rounded defender that stays fit.

I like how we're bolstering our squad with free transfers and top youth prospects, if we can pull this off its a good replacement for Lindelof while we work on our midfield and attacking options this summer.

I'm all for it. It's a huge net gain for us, get it done.

I thought he was one of the best centre backs in Europe last season? Wasn’t he being chased by Bayern?

Love the idea of this. Not spending any mad transfer fee. He currently only earns 50k a week so you're not needing to go fecking mental here.

If we have a defence of

de Ligt
Martinez
Yoro
Tah
Maguire
Mazraoui
Heaven

Then we will be in insane shape at the back for once.

We also have Shaw for another season so for me that is too many CBs, given we would also have the likes of Kukonki as emergency back-up.

For me, Tah would only make sense if we had interest in Maguire and we could shift him on for 15-20m.

Wouldn’t have thought CB was a massive priority with some of our younger players developing but on a free I guess it’s not a bad deal. Would rather us focus on central midfield though after the forwards though.

Shaw should be playing wing back anyway, but his delivery is miles better than Dorgu it's not even funny.
I don't know whether his legs can do that for 90 mins though

Yes for me. We are going to lose 2 senior CBs in Lindelof and Evans while Maguire isnt getting younger, Licha is undependable, Yoro and Heaven arent ready to start regularly yet. This transfer makes most sense especially as he'll come in free transfer.

@daba you shouldnt count on Shaw or Martinez for next season else you'll ended up disappointed

Don't get the concern when he's on a free, however no worries as he will go elsewhere anyway

Would be a sensible signing and our defence isn’t good enough, not going to lie and say I’ve watched loads of him but assuming hes half decent on the ball and not a snail he’d start for us.

I thought he was off to Bayern.

Can’t say I’ve seen much of him but he’s used to being in a back 3 and it may give them room to try and sell Maguire and raise some cash off the back of a half decent season from him.

Don't really need to replace him though. We already have Maz/Yoro for RCB, Maguire/DeLigt for CCB & Licha/Heaven/Shaw for LCB. Also got the youth kids who should get some appearances next season.
That's very light in quality.

Maguire and de Ligt have had a few injuries this season, Martinez has been out for months and it's unknown whether he'll ever return to his best and Shaw has just started his first PL game since Febraury '24.

In an ideal world we'd be getting rid of Martinez, Lindelof and Shaw and bring in another CB.

Is he a ball playing CB?
Because that's the type of CB, if we're going to bring one in, we need.

All of the senior players listed here are either often injured (De Ligt/Martinez) not good enough (Maguire) or not even really a CB (Maz) we need better if we are going to improve.

I think Tah goes elsewhere though anyway

We’ve got Maguire, Yoro, De Ligt, Martinez, Shaw, Mazraoui, Heaven, Fredricksen and Kukonki for three positions even with Lindelof thankfully leaving so unless we’re moving Maguire on to bring in funds I don’t see why we’d target another centre back although Tah is far quicker than Maguire or De Ligt whilst being great in the air too.

I’ve been supporting the idea of free transfers this summer as some players that are available on a free this summer are better than what actually already have like Meret, Anguissa, Gomes, Bardghji and David and if those 5 were brought in to replace Onana, Casemiro, Eriksen, Antony and a void up front we’d be better off without any fees and better off wages wise also.

Maguire might well move on to be honest. He's not a starter when everyone is fit so he’s got one year left as a squad player or does he try and get one last big contract elsewhere. He’s not young but I could see him getting one last 2-3 year deal elsewhere if he moves this summer.

Shaw can’t be counted on to stay fit and likely suits LCB in certain games only + Martinez might be in a similar boat. Maz isn’t a proper CB though he deputises well.

We have a lot of players who can play CB but very few top CBs.

I think Bayern tried to buy him last summer but he stayed probably looking to cash in on a Bosman.

Not sure what shape the Bayern defence is in these days

Utd have to be careful wages wise but seems like the way they do it now is giving players hefty signing bonuses.

Would be a decent replacement for Lindelof and Evan’s, we don’t know what kind of shape Martinez will be in next season

Meh. Not our biggest priority, but free transfers are also very low risk. If the club thinks he adds value in whatever reshuffling they do in defence...

All of Real, Barca and Bayern are also still being linked with him though, and in Real's case it may soon be with Tah's former manager Alonso in charge. So it's probably a non-story.

Our defense is in a bad shape and there are rumours that there might be a rather big overhaul, with Dier already out and Kim likely to follow. All while it is unclear if Ito can make a comeback from his now multiple foot fractures. Tah is the biggest rumour right now and Real and Barca are apparently also interested.

As I said mate if it’s so we can bring in £10-£15 million for Maguire then I’m all for it as Maguire is on £190K a week and Tah is currently on £50K a week so even if we tripled his wages it’s three quarters of Maguire’s plus Maguire’s potential fee, then you throw in Lindelof on £120K a week and Evans on £65K a week both coming off the wage bill and you’re looking at around £1 million a month in wages saved.

If the club have a genuine plan in place then we’ve no choice but to accept it and trust them but if it’s just a case of bringing players in because they’re free with no plan to move players on and just hoping someone comes in for them then I’m not for it at all as we’ve got a bloated wage bill full of players that don’t fit yet another coaches set up and should already be working behind the scenes on outgoings and incomings so they’re in place by early July and Amorim can be given the best chance possible through pre season.

Yeah I guess the last big earners pre Ineos on the books are Rashy, Bruno, Maguire, Case? Aside from Bruno, all are likely (to varying degrees) to leave this summer in my opinion.
I agree broadly though on the sensible frees, Meret and David in particular. I defintely would love another CB, I just know little about Tah in honesty but from what people are saying he'd be ideal as a cheap option.

Ideally we have 2-3 senior CBs and a couple of juniors pushing through minimum given we play with 3, then you have the deputy guys like Maz and Shaw after that.

He'd be a great signing and not just because we always end up needing about 14 centre backs over the course of a season.

It doesn't feel like one that will happen.
