I know this guy isnt trusted but I saw this on a RT from Simon Stone - maybe Stone has heard something as well.

What would you guys think about a season or two of Fonte?

Hardly a big name and is already 32 but I do think that he could be a pretty solid addition.

He said he is flattered by the interest and even his coach said something like the transfer window is still open but he will be staying.

Fonte told Mais Futebol: "If the interest is there, it is a reason to be flattered to be associated with a club like Manchester United.

"But I have a contract with Southampton, and I'm just focused on my work, to make a great season. I will not deny that Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world and that it makes me happy to be associated with it. But to be Manchester United's player is a big difference."

Southampton coach Claude Puel is expecting Fonte to be professional when he returns to action. The Frenchman considers the player to be an important part of his plans.

Puel said: "I do not think there is a possibility for Jose to leave us. I am sure that he can play all these games. He is very proficient.

"[Fonte has] rejoined training. I do not know if he will start the game [on Saturday] but we will see.

"The window is difficult for the club and the players. Many clubs can be interested in players. That is normal."

There's no world class option. Laporte, Marquinhos and Varane ain't moving.

Let Smalling and Bailley develop a partnership with Fonte and Blind as backup.

I saw a tweet several days ago that said we were interested. Can't recall who from but I know it wasn't that ^ guy.

Simon Stone retweeted it.

Fonte is 32 and will be 33 in december. Very good premier league CB though.

Would be fine in the squad for a couple of seasons at that price.

Called this weeks ago, would be a very good addition.

Prem proven
Consistently performs well
Hardly ever injured
Wouldn't cost a fortune

Hope this goes through.

Get rid of the shit and bring him in as a backup and it'll do for a couple of years

I'd take him for a good few years. One year as starter second as a back up option.

Isnt this Vincent guy a faker? I am pretty sure, i remember his name. Was something with Reus where he got found out

This was posted yesterday and he's very well connected at Southampton. Most journos following them seem to think he'll sign a new contract.

Jose doesn't rotate the squad as often as others so if we do go for him, he's likely injury insurance for Smalling. Otherwise I'd rather let TFM get those games instead and we still have Jones.

he gets some things right. As I said in the OP he isnt generally trusted but I found it interesting that the United writer from the BBC retweeted it.

A lot can change in 2 days.

Or maybe this wont happen, I have no idea.

Jones should be shown the door.

Also you missed Joses comments yesterday. He said for the first time he needs a big squad because of us playing on Thursday and Sunday. So he will be forced to rotate.

No way is he going with same teams in both competitions.

The guy says that he is a lawyer for Familienangehöriger which isn't a company.

Would be class for £8m. We just need better back up at CB, though would Fonte be okay with sitting on the bench?

I'd take him at that price. A stop-gap signing but experienced, a leader and an organiser. Plus, it would presumably means one of Jones or preferably Rojo is heading out of the door.

If we were in the market for an experienced and PL proven player I wonder why we didn't try for Williams. He is a notch above Fonte I think, well worth the difference in fee.

Would be very underwhelming and I'd be surprised at Soton selling for that fee.

To me he's in that bracket of; would be an OK addition but likely too expensive (assuming the fee quoted is wrong).

If we were to sign him, it wouldn't be as a backup as a lot of people are suggesting. I think we'd be better shelling out a bit more of a higher standard of player.

Won't Bailly be going to that Afcon tournament mid season To play for Ivory Coast?

Another reason we need an experienced back up CB

Maybe we were afraid he would 'kill' someone in training by smashing the ball in the back of their head :p

Most probably Rojo. Would be glad to see the back of that ticking time bomb.
Yup. I am waiting for that too. We should offer him to Milanese clubs. Player can be happy/accept to go because of history and those two clubs have now some cash to spend and won't mind an established international player as they won't be getting any top or better player yet.

Too expensive? 8m or anything close is the cost of a marsbar in footballing terns these days. If you get a few good years out of him thats a cheap deal

We have Blind, Baily, Smalling, Jones, Rojo, Mensah plus the likesof Tuanzebe. I don't see any point in signing him even as a backup.

I actually think we can recoup a fair bit for Jones, considering his Ingurlishness and the fact that we got 5, possibly rising to 7 for McNair with one year left on his contract.

I reckon Moyes would be willing to part with £15m for Jones
