Basically, which of our senior players would you keep, and who’d you like to get rid of? Don’t get rid of too many as we ain’t replacing them all in two windows (January and July 2021). This list excludes new signings.

For me:

De Gea - Keep
Hendo - Keep
Grant - who cares
AWB - Keep
TFM - Go
Maguire - Go
Lindelof - Keep
Bailly - Keep
Jones - Go
Rojo - Go
Tuanzebe - Keep
Shaw - Keep
Williams - Keep
Matic - Go
McT - Keep
Fred - Keep
Pogba - Go
Bruno - Keep
Lingard - Go
Mata - Keep
Greenwood - Keep
James - Go
Rashford - Keep
Martial - Keep
Ighalo - Go

Replacements would be Upamecano, Sancho, Phillips, Grealish, the new signings and youth players like Mejbri. This would improve the team tenfold.

I am adamant that we will do nothing without an entirely new defence. Wan-Bissaka, Shaw, Maguire, Lindelof, Bailly & Williams are dog shit.

Based off this past transfer window it seems futile creating lists of players that should leave. SO MUCH deadwood in the squad that should have already went this summer as it is :annoyed:

So we definitely keep McTominay to phase him out, right?

You have to laugh at the kneejerk posters getting rid of Maguire. He’s our best CB by a mile and one of the best In the league which he showed pretty consistently last season and improved our defence hugely. A poor start doesn’t undo that for anyone sensible.

De Gea - Go, it might be time to let him go so he can find a new adventure and tbh I feel it's spiraling down for him here.
Hendo - Keep, he has future here
Grant - Keep
AWB - Keep, he needs to further his attacking game via coaching though
TFM - Go, unfortunately not good enough
Maguire - Keep, he was good last season, but summer hasn't treat him well, hopefully he can recover
Lindelof - Keep, even if he loses a spot he should be around in the team.
Bailly - Keep, has a future, but very questionable decisions sometimes
Jones - Go, unfortunately he has sang his last song with that contract extension
Rojo - Go, hopefully he goes in the january window
Tuanzebe - Keep, but he needs to improve his injury record if possible
Shaw - Keep, for competition
Williams - Keep, hopefully he starts competing with AWB
Matic - Keep, but he hasn't got a lot of days left playing regularly
McT - Keep, for rotating and when we need a bit more steel in the midfield
Fred - Keep, definitely has improved since his arrival, but we still need to see him improve further
Pogba - Go, unfortunately he needs to go next summer or even better resign a new contract and promise that we will sell him
Bruno - Keep, he is the future
Lingard - Go, as much as he loves the club he needs to find a new refreshing challenge
Mata - Keep, as squad player
Greenwood - Keep, hopefully he learns a trick or two from Cavani and soon-ish ™ we start playing him a bit more in the ST role
James - Go, loan by leeds sounded good, shame it didn't materialize
Rashford - Keep, he is a bit of limbo since his return of injury, some good some bad games
Martial - Keep/Go, mixed about him tbh, some very good games and then some awful games, needlessly to say that red card was very high school material mentality
Ighalo - Go, unfortunately I think his stun is over

Not what I'd do, necessarily but this is who I see as likely keepers with the fairly safe assumption we get a proper manager or DOF in this season or the summer:

Rashford(James)------Martial(Greenwood)------------RW(Diallo)
--------------------Bruno(Pellistri)--------VDB(Fred)------------------------
----------------------------------DM(McTominay)-------------------------------
Telles(Shaw)-------------------------------------------WanBissaka(Dalot/Williams)
---------------Maguire(Tuanzebe)-----CB(Lindelof/Bailly)------------
-----------------------------------Henderson(Keeper)---------------------------

and then Cavani maybe gets a 2nd season as the 7th attacker or Chong comes back and is that guy, or we keep Ighalo or sign another backup striker type. Mendi is the 5th CB, maybe Laird becomes the 5th FB many teams carry. Could also see Garner coming back since Pellistri probably goes on loan somewhere considering his age and size and having struggled to score in Uruguay meaning he's probably a few years away.

This would see Pogba, De Gea, Lingard, Mata, Pereira, Ighalo, Matic, one of Bailly/Lindelof, one of Williams/Dalot sold to raise funds for the expensive CB, DM and RW signings. Shaw can also be sold to some Prem mid-table side for a decent whack and replaced with a cheaper backup LB.

I think we’ve done okay.
I think pereira and Dalot will be put in the shop window by their loans and be sold next year. Rojo Jones and Lingard are the only total trash left.

There are others like TFM, Romero who could probably be sold as they dont really have a squad place.

Mata and Matic will gradually phase out. To be honest both have quality but cant play every week. Mata gets goals and assists in cup games.

Ighalo is gone in January, Cavani will be shit and let go or will do well and maybe kept for one more year.

Under a tree.
The squad needs a major culling, we need to get rid of at least double then is brought in

Out:

TFM
Dalot (Sold)
Lindelof

Pogba
Lingard
James - Loan

Saul

Thank Christ you're not in charge of recruitment. What would you do if this entire new squad you'd buy had a few bad games? Would you then replace them with another entirely new squad?

Tuanzebe
AWB
Fred
McTominay
Van De Beek
Fernandes
Martial
Rashford
Greenwood

Just Sell
Jones
Rojo
Lingard
Pereira

Sell if we can somehow get a decent price
Pogba
De Gea
Bailly
James (otherwise just hold onto him as a bench option for sprinting at a knackered defence)

That leaves Matic. Not sure what to do there. Didn’t want him tied down for another three years but he won’t have any resale value and it’ll cost a packet to fix every gaping hole in the squad, so there is a question of how high this should be on the priority list.

Also leaves Shaw/Williams. If someone came in with good money for Shaw then possibly worth cashing in (unless Telles turns out to be poor). We do seem to hold onto players until they’re past-it and broken, so there is a case for cashing in on Shaw before he gets any more ravaged by injuries. Otherwise hold onto him for now and loan out Williams.

Mata I don’t mind knocking about the dressing room on greatly reduced wages and playing in the league cup and the like.

Haven’t included Cavani or Ighalo since they’re on borrowed time anyway.

For me:
De Gea - Go - No point keeping De Gea on £350k per week if he is going to play second fiddle to Henderson, or if he blocks Henderson's path. Either way, time to go.
Hendo - Keep - The Future
Grant - Go - Just a body for the training ground numbers
AWB - Keep - Improvements to make, still very young and can develop.
TFM - Go - Unreliable crock
Maguire - Keep - Keeping an eye on you though.
Lindelof - Go - Never wanted him, hasn't improved since I saw him at Benfica.
Bailly - Go - Unreliable crock.
Jones - Go - Unreliable crock.
Rojo - Go - Unreliable crock.
Tuanzebe - Keep - It's time to prove himself
Shaw - Keep - as a squad player
Williams - Keep - as a squad player
Matic - Go - Best days behind him, big earner.
McT - Keep - as a squad player
Fred - Go - Squad player only, but has some value in the market
Pogba - Go - Hearts not in it here, big earner, cash in.
Bruno - Keep - Obviously
Lingard - Go - Squad player only, but has some value in the market
Mata - Go - Best days behind him, big earner.
Greenwood - Keep - Obviously
James - Keep - as a squad player
Rashford - Keep - Obviously
Martial - Keep - Obviously
Ighalo - Go - Loan Over, £6M per year wages...!!!!

Yes, 12 players out. I would keep all others, and bring in 2 CBs and a DM with Sancho over the next 2 windows. Promote some youngsters and we have a good squad who want to play for us.
