Let’s sign Gareth Bale

The last thing our club needs is another past-his-prime player looking to score one final payday before he hangs up his boots. We've been stung too many times in recent years to fall for the same trap again.

A non-commital loan deal, whereby both clubs split the cost of his salary evenly, is certainly worth consideration though.

It doesn't have to be United though.

Spurs would welcome him with open arms I guess.

Spurs couldn't come close to covering the cost of his salary.

United is pretty much his only realistic destination unless he is prepared to take a hit on his weekly wage. Unlikely.

No thanks. Another crock with bloated wages. We've already got Sanchez.

Maybe coming back to Britain in an English speaking environment would help kickstart his career. I think a lot of what is holding him back is psychological. Madrid is a tough, demanding place to play. Impossible fans and press that expect fluency in Spanish and top performances every game.

A loan deal is doable for us. It’s not like his salary would be a problem for United.

was far from impressed for him for wales on saturday. he looks down in the dumps and his form is much the same it seems

If he can play similar role to the likes of RvP, Larsson or Sheringham in the past, there might be something there for the team to benefit. I don't think he is suitable for that RW anymore though.

Although it is pretty much unlikely to happen, but what are the rules when it comes to loanees playing against their home club in UEFA competitions? That would be juicy.

That said, I'd rather not spend any resources on Bale, full stop.

Not only has he lost his pace, he's lost his hunger. Would be a worse signing than Alexis.

I can see it now, we bring him in, then we have the continued Rooney/Sanchez debate all season about how whatever position he's playing in isn't his best, and how he needs legs around him etc etc

As a number 9/false 9.

Reinventing himself as an out and out goalscorer, the way Ronaldo did, is likely the only way to do it. If at all.
That could work but he needs to want to change as a player and he needs to find his hunger again and I'm not sure how it would work at United with him being under a huge media spotlight.

Buying him at this point-no.

On loan-yeah could go for that idea for a season. At least with a loan there would be something for him to prove if he is inclined.

To be fair - everything the majority of the fans talk about ends up being false.

Excitement over Sanchez, cravings for Jose, expectations of title wins under LVG etc.

The fact that Bale seems to be pushed away by so many fans gives me alot of hope. A lot.

Even on a loan just covering his wages is a bit of a gamble at this stage which may or may not work out well. We should be trying to sign the next Messi/Ronaldo/Bale - not the nearly at retirement versions.

Hard to say as being treated as surplus to requirements by your club will stuff your self confidence and performances will often follow.

I would hate it if we give Madrid a way out and brought him here. I'm as against this as i was Sanchez.

Plus, I'm sure i read on here that he supposedly wants to play as a CF these days?

Ole trying to implement a fitter quicker team who presses more and then having Bale stroll around just doesn't appeal at all. And he's already turned us down twice. Let him and Real enjoy each others company.

Exactly - he doesn't fit into the way Ole appears to want to play, and he could have joined us before. Why the hell we'd go near such an expensive near-crocked player who appears to have fallen out of love with the game is beyond me

Without going through 52 pages of Bale, why is he so unpopular at RM and/or not within Zizou's plans going forward? He's only 29 ... cant have lost his hunger already?

He does not fit in RM way of playing football.

He is still lethal when finishing and with headers. I could easily see him score 20 goals in PL if he stays fit. Which is another big issue with him. He has been injury prone.

The story with him has been like: Bale is very good, he scores a lot of goals aaaand he gets injured.. Then he is out for 3-4 weeks. He comes back and spend the next 2-3 weeks to come into form again. Plays 3-4 good games and then gets injured again and the story repeat itself.

Now a days he lost pace as well. He was never techincally brilliant.

He seems happy being on the bench. He is paid a lot and although Madrid/Zidane clearly told him to feck off he still wanna hang around for the money.

He is not integrated in the team as well. Some say he is more interested in golf then football. He also cannot speak proper spanish after 6 years in Spain.

For a guy who scored in so many finals he is not very popular.

Unpopular at Madrid because of really bad performances and gigantic wages. Other stuff like he spends all his time golfing and can't speak Spanish is like Lingard and social media, if the performances were good nobody would care.

He might have lost his hunger, 29 is hardly young for a footballer and he will be 30 next month. He's already moved to his dream club, won a huge amount, got one of the cushiest contracts in football... circumstances are certainly right for him to feel he's accomplished enough in his career. Impossible to say for sure though, I think injuries and age are bigger problems. He's been playing first team football since he was 17, 12 years, 550+ games and a lot of injuries later and he's lost a lot physically. His pace is gone, his stamina is gone, Bale used to terrify defenders with his running, how he's harmless. This is why he doesn't want to play as a winger anymore (which is a point the people who advocate us signing him for our RW often ignore).

Wow. I didnt realise that he had fallen off the perch this badly. It will be a miracle of religious proportions if we can get rid of our own wage shackles in Sanchez. Don't need to be saddled by another -- loan or otherwise.

Cheers!

Exactly what so many Madrid fans are saying yet the Caf is chomping at the bit to take on yet another absolute albatross of a signing.

Ronaldo enjoyed a pretty turbulent relationship with the Real fans and he is the greatest striker to have ever played for them. I'm pretty sure he averaged (yes averaged) over a goal a game in both La Liga & CL, and that's not even taking in to account his assists. He had a huge salary but he justified it from the day he arrived to the day he left.

Then you have Bale who I think has had a couple of very good seasons mixed in with some long spells on the bench/out of form. By all accounts, he spends not time whatsoever with them team outside of 'work', hasn't tried to learn the language and remains the highest/one of the highest earners despite all this.

Note to Ole, do not touch with barge pole

No! Let’s not sign Bale. That ship sailed years ago. However, if there was a more Woodward signing in the footballing world I’d like to see it.

I definitely wouldn't want us bringing him in on a big money permanent deal, but a season-long loan would not be too costly (£20m or so in wages) and might therefore be worth the gamble.

Out of which half the season he will spend injured or in rusty form after coming back from injury.

He is not worth it.

I think that whole he doesn't speak the lingo and doesn't spend time with his teammates is overplayed. He won them a champs league just last yr. I don't want him personally due to his injury concerns and wages. I honestly though couldn't give a flying feck if we signed some player and he wasn't and didn't become fluent and didn't like hanging out with his teammates if he delivers on the pitch. We know more than most that the player doesn't speak the lingo thing is a fallacy. We've had with with Cantona in the past and recently with Tony V, both spoke it but just didn't do it publicly. Bale speaks spanish, it is great, probably not. I think the days of all the players being mates outside the game is over anyway. As long as the player knows enough that he is understood on the pitch, good enough for me. He will always be a target at Real due to his wages esp when he isn't delivering., which is he isn't and hasn't been of late

Woodie has got this one spot on... Only want Bale if he is available on a season long loan deal extendable to one more year.

Bale is done. I think he's just happy to collect paychecks now and we shouldn't be the one paying him, even if he comes here on loan it's just going to be a disaster.

The guy played 42 games last season, and that's with being frozen out towards the end of the season.

His injury record is being overplayed.

A loan deal would be pretty risk free.

Its still risk because we are the who paying his wage if report to be believe. Why would we add another astronomical fee on top of overpaid we have already?

Swap for Alexis, with RM covering the difference in wages. It would make sense for all parties.

Well, we still need to pay wages to someone else. Of course much less but if we really want to get Sancho and he is willing to join us next year, I don't think getting Bale for a season would be the worst idea.
