I thought ok good this weekend we playing Saturday 3pm again, guess when Liverpool play?

Saturday 12.30pm, this seems more than coincidence.
I think it switches over new year...when they get a day extra recovery to every one else!!

Is this post for real? Currently we have Matip and Fabhino out with longer term injuries. We’ve had Allison our nearly 3 months. Salah out a few weeks too, not to mention niggles to Robertson, Henderson, Firminho etc. We can’t even rest Trent properly as Clyne is out for the year. We aren’t devoid of injuries.
Clyne doesn't play for us anymore
Edit: Apparently he does! I thought he'd been moved on in the summer

So Leicester with their best ever team in history (young Schmikes, Kante, young Vardy, Morgan in cheat mode, young Albrighton and of course best season ever Mahrez) won the league at the very best of 81 points.

Rodgers with our best team up till 2014 amassed a huge 84 points. Including peak and injury free (one game a week) Coutinho, Gerrard, Suarez, Sterling and Sturridge.

If we combine the stats and expectations, and throw in some additional points for fairness, it would be fair to say that 90 points is probably the best Leicester (Rodgers) can hope for this season. That would mean 4 losses (City/Pool/Utd/Jose?) and a draw (Everton or Wolves?)

For us to finish on the same number of points we would need 6 losses and 2 draws. City obviously can only lose 2 and draw 1 to get to 90 points.

Not impossible for any of these three teams to get to that threshold.

Such a long way to go still. They still have dec and jan to go through still. After that and if they are still unbeaten then it might be worth discussing

Exactly, so mathematically, they can still get 112 points.

The poster we were replying to seemed to think they couldn't reach 100.
Sorry, didn't explain myself well. I meant reaching a 100 pts on the day we visit the Etihad, matchday 33. Taking both the Invincible title and their centurion title at the Etihad (but the centurion title would be just out of reach, even if we won all our games till then)

I think your 2008/09 side was better. Got more points, too, and competed in the CL.

08/09 was certainly more balanced, deeper squad and won more points (86). Didn't have the genius of Suarez though.

I'd rather lose a few games and win a few other ones than draw them all. We only lost once last season so it's certainly possible but I think we'll feck up somewhere unexpectedly this season. As I said though, rather a loss and a win than 2 draws, unless we're so far ahead that the title is basically in the bag and the unbeaten season is all left to play for.

Rafa had time to build a decent-ish defence (Hyppia and Carra?) which meant we squeezed victories. Gerrard and Torres gave us entertaining moments but nothing could beat the drubbings we gave to Arsenal, Spurs, etc, under Rodgers. Like you say there is no comparison for peak Suarez. 2014 team for me pre-Klopp.

Obviously Rodgers has a better defence now (amazing FBs included) which he didn't in 2014. Which is why I've allowed him another estimated 6 points.

We beat Madrid 4-0 and beat probably the best Man Utd team of all time 4-1. Then beat Villa 5-1 or something.

Yeah, second half of that season was spectacular at times.
The first third or so of the season was all about late comebacks and close wins. The middle part was where we screwed up with stupid home draws against Everton, Man City etc. We then really turned on the style in the last third! Hopefully the middle part doesn't happen this time around...

It would be funny if they broke the record and still failed to win the title with too many draws.

I was talking about the 2008-2009 season, but I can see the similarities! But yes the Sterling "offside" and Eto's totally-not-a-red-card-because-it-was-early-in-the-game foul on Henderson both within a week....

No way. They won't even get near Forest's 42 game unbeaten run.

Never say never.
Saying that, I really want Brendan Rodgers to beat Pool to the title. The scenes if it happens
Scenario: Liverpool lose next game. Leicester keep up the win streak. Then beat them Boxing Day. Gap is now 2 points. LFC shit it in time honoured fashion.
Scenario 2: I shut the feck up and don't jinx it.

We'd have to lose at home for the first time in 50+ matches to the team bottom of the league. Leicester would then have to win tomorrow against Norwich, then beat the current Premier League champions away from home and then beat the best team in the league (on current form) at home.
I'm not saying it won't happen as football is crazy especially a this time of year but you'd get great odds at the bookies on that scenario. I'm tempted to throw a couple of quid on it just in case :)

50 unbeaten will be a piece of cake. Really can't see them losing any league game this season.

We might get there but there's a lot of football to be played yet. One off day, one red card, a penalty and anything can happen. One game at a time is all we can do.

They've got the fear factor into teams, making Leicester look like chumps.

When i compare them to the invincibles there's no real standout worldclass player in there. It's a functional team, but not overly loaded in terms of talent.

They have 7 maybe 8 world class players. And players who have been playing at a top class level for far too long for it to be just form I'm talking Wijnaldum, Henderson and Matip before his injury.

Good points. I suppose what ThatsGreat is getting at is we don't have players of Henry's calibre, etc. But your list is good to point out we probably have a better keeper than Arsenal did. Probably one of the best CB who isn't ageing yet to play in the PL and Salah who is holding a better PL top scoring season than Henry could ever manage in 8 years. The others could be debated.

Also top players are such if top European clubs want them. Real Madrid, arguably the most successful over the last five years, want both Mane and/or Salah but both will cost half a billion or just under. Now that's what I call 'functional'.

It's a tired argument, but I honestly blame this 'lack' of world class players on the Messi and Ronaldo effect. Those two players have been so good over the past decade and a bit, that any top forward player now is automatically compared to them (and lower).

Without those two, I think the current Liverpool crop of forwards would be getting higher praise, together with players who have missed out in the past (e.g. Aguero and Suarez).
