He's been mentioned in a few threads here and there, mostly related to Newcastle (he's pretty much on their payroll by now) but I feel he's so bad he deserves a thread for himself.
This was prompted by listening to the BBC daily football podcast where he called our victory "the most shameful victory" (it's catchy, I'll give him that) and admitted he'd turned the game off at 3-0. He admitted he'd done the same in the 2005 CL final when Milan were up 3-0 (so... at halftime?) which is pretty impressive: this is a guy whose unique job is to report on football games, but he apparently doesn't have a sufficient attention span to go the full 90mns.
He was also pushing the notion that Ten Hag would go this summer; while that might very well happen, his whole stance was that "Ineos are appointing people in every position, we're all expecting them to turn their sights on the dugout and change the manager" when the noises coming out of the club, and reported by actual trustworthy journalists (Laurie Whitwell, Carl Anka, Andy Mitten...), are that Ineos would rather not have to change the manager and would like to see Ten Hag operating in their new structure. Which doesn't mean it will happen (the current trend is terrible), but it's factually incorrect to report it as Edwards is.
He's just very poor at his job, he very clearly hates Utd and it feels like a lucky football fan who won a prize to get to talk about games. This was made worse by the fact he's usually on the podcast with Onuoha, who is generally excellent and measured.
Anyway, what are your favourite bad takes by Edwards?
