Luke Shaw (Out)

Real shame given his quality, but fitness is also a quality and he has none of it.

Glad RA is making some hard decisions. Will be amazed if we find someone willing to take on his wages though.

Quite surprised by this one to be honest, even though I think it’s the wise move. Thought we’d keep him as squad cover at least given his experience. Already losing Lindelof at the back.

Don’t have a clue where he’d go. On his day, there isn’t a team who’d pass up on the opportunity to having him in their squad - but goes without saying that his fitness is just not it.

Even a loan with 70% of his wages covered would be amazing. Just don't want him near our training ground (and canteen).

Those plans will have to be readjusted when no one wants him. I've always thought he was excellent when he could stay fit for a handful of matches but it seems the injuries and inactivity have finally caught up and he's not even a very good player anymore.

What wage is he on? I imagine another astronomical one. Probably would have interest from most mid-table prem clubs if not and could probably shift him in a similar way to AWB.

With his injury record a hot climate with slower paced football might be better for his body and his longevity.

Bet he ends up at Brighton and does well. And then all the inevitable "United shouldn't have sold him" stuff will kick off.

I do wonder whether he has had a part to play in the negative culture at the club. He’s been part of every post-Ferguson regime with the exception of Moyes. LVG basically told him to lose weight and get fit. Jose was definitely not a fan of him. Solskjaer seemed fine with him but Solskjaer is a bit too soft touch for management. Rangnick questioned his ability. ETH had a bust up with him supposedly.

I have read rumours over the years that he’s one of those footballers that treats football as a day job, which I don’t think is congruent to the very top levels or in a club where there’s plenty of other players who aren’t taking it as seriously as they could be.

Whoever in the United hierarchy signed off on his current contract a few years back, should be smacked across the head. That injury record means the max contract extension length you give him is two years. Those imbeciles handed him four years.

Thank christ. The likes of Shaw and Rashford need to be removed regardless of the financials if we hope to reset the culture.

I'd have much rather see Heaven start that final, and bet he'd have done better despite his inexperience.

This is quite funny actually, a couple of years ago, we were linked with every player under the sun, now its the opposite, all of our players are linked away instead. I promise you, when the transfer window is open, all of our players will be linked to at least one club.

Regarding Shaw...who would want him - especially when hes not even a free agent. MLS?

He’s going nowhere until his contract expires

Would not be to sure. If we are looking for a fee, you are right. But I dont think we are. He is on what? £150k a week? That is £8 mill a year. I think someone would easily pay him £8 mill in a sign on and £75k a week if he was available for free.

Maybe a move to Italy could do him well.

He’s probably the hardest to shift this summer. Huge wages, awful injury record, over weight, pretty average.

That said, any fee would be pure profit now so might tempt the club if a low offer comes in. Wouldn’t be missed.

Along with Mount another player who is almost impossible to sell due to his injury record.

 Best of luck waiting for a chairman to sign a cheque for 8million to get Luke Shaw to sign for his club.

150k a week, so not insane wages but I’d imagine many wouldn’t want to pay that due to the injury history. But get him down to 120-130k I imagine there would be quite a few interested teams.

Let’s face it fit Luke Shaw is a very good player. So probably worth the gamble. Do think we would have held on to him just as back up and experience but then he is maybe part of the culture that needs changed.

With no eruopean football and one game per week , time to get rid of most of these duds.

Good.

A constant in years and years of negativity and Mourinho had his number, was never as good as made out - thick as mince and fat as feck.

It would put Shaw at a total cost of £20 mill for three years. He is a talented player. Probably yearly cost of approx than £5-7 mill. I mean, WHU paid £15 mill and gave £90k a week for Wan-Bissaka. That is a yearly of £8 mill.

Can't imagine a scenario where any club would be willing to pay a fee for this lad.

Unless...does anyone know of a rich Saudi club who really wants to show how great their medical team are, and are up for a real challenge?

I’m sure a deal could be struck - there must be a sucker out there believing Shaw could stay fit; especially a newly promoted side. They give us a £5m fee and we use it to subsidise his wage and they offer him £80k a week or so (whichever way the maths would work for his current wage and contract length - neither of which I have an idea but I think he’s on at close to/around £200k - not sure if that’s with UCL or without).

Real shame, he would’ve been a very, very good fullback if he wasn’t so hampered by injuries. That leg break really was the thing of horrors.

Don't forget we only play 40-odd games next season. I think 50 is our theoretical maximum, and thats assuming we reach both cup finals. If we had another marathon season incoming then, ok, maybe keeping a player in the squad who could cover 20 or 30 games might be worth it.

But notwithstanding the fact that even 30 games looks beyond Shaw, it just isnt needed. Fatigue will not be a factor, nor will fixture congestion. There's injuries and form to take account of, but even injuries are less likely in a shorter season. So there's on reason to keep him on.
