Eh. It all seems much of a muchness replacing one of Smalling or Jones with somebody like Bartra. I think there's a few other positions we should really be focusing on.

I'd like another centre back who's comfortable on the ball, but we don't play a back three and it seems a waste to have at least one £30m centre back on the bench every week.
We already have your namesake, and Lindelof's supposed best quality is his composure on the ball.

I think Sokratis is their best defender by a mile, then Bartra and Ginter is hopeless. Bartra is decent, but is still prone to too many mistakes. He needs regular football to iron them out and not sit on the bench for us, he is not good enough to start for us at the moment
Another defender, exactly what our team is crying out for.
He's a CB, an average one. He's very light weight and not that great at defending. He's a good passer, as you'd expect. Unless Jose wants to play him in midfield, I don't think he'd want him as a CB. He's not cut to be a PL CB let alone a Mourinho one.

As much as I'd like Blind to be further up the pecking order, he's still behind Smalling and Jones for the most part. Someone like Bartra would at least ensure there's a technically decent presence beside Bailly when Lindelof's injured, but like I say that doesn't justify spending another high fee on a centre back when Blind is an excellent back up option.
We tried that with Schneiderlin, didn't work.
He's been hit and miss for Dortmund. Doesn't seem robust enough in 1on1s and he was prone to the occasional error. He seemed to improve in the 2nd half of the season, but I don't think he should be a starter for one of the top teams. I don't see him as an upgrade for United,
Surely we have greater needs in the squad to prioritise, rather than another cb.

But he has an odd gait - the body of an 80 year old man.
It could just be one of many players we inquire about but may not necessarily buy. The tweeter is a friend of Bartra so the information is likely accurate.
Maybe, but I can't see us moving to another luxury CB with only 2 weeks from the start of the preseason and many other transfers are getting hold. Think I won't put much interest on this rumor now.
Well first he isn't a luxury CB. He's more than likely a squad depth player. Second, we can work on multiple transfers at once so this idea that we wouldn't buy a defender just because we haven't publicly signed a few attackers is nonsense.
He's a luxury CB currently with us signing already one and have Bailly, Blind, Smalling, Jones and Tuanzebe not to mention Rojo when coming back from injury. It doesn't make any sense paying 30m for a defender who will be a back-up or even a 3rd choice in no time after Rojo returns from injury. He may play some games at the start but he'll be a bench player sooner or later.

Well its not rocket science to speculate that we would probably not be retaining the services of Smalling and Jones if Mourinho opts to buy another defender. Tuanzebe may also go out on loan, so that would leave us with Bailly, Lindelof, Barta, Rojo, and Blind.
