She has a dodgy foot and apparently may never play pro tennis again. Still she has 18m in earnings alone to help her along!

Nooooo
I hope not
First, 'The Rock' apperently won't wrestle again...
then Martina will never play Tennis again
All I need now is Beck's won't play football again, please....
It would be real pity if she does not play again...I miss her on court, feels kinda empty...

It's the entertainment business--most of your big name singers and actors get their millions also. Whether, in the greater scheme of things, they deserve it is irrelevant, since the excess won't be going to you or me.

Do you like tennis, EB?

There was a report that Hingis' surgeon said she should be able to come back. I wonder if the damage is more psychological than physical?

Im a sports junkie full stop.

apparently every time Hingis tries to train on the bad foot the pain is excruitiating, she will have a real uphill battle if thats the case. It would be a shame if she never played again, I didn't like her one bit when she first came on the scene, but she grew on me with some of the off-court remarks she made about various players...

for example: "I thought i was playing a man" (directly after playing Mauresmo )

and "Well, Anna is a very pretty girl, but I'm sure she'd like some of my titles!" (OUCH! )

I have never liked Hingis, EB. The other woman player I don't like is Capriati.

I hope she comes back soon....
I hate Capriati, The Williams, Davenport, anyone which is American basically...
I support Kim Clijsters until Martina comes back though...
She was unlucky to lose to Serena today...
man I'm disappointed...
Another Williams final

18 m. Count to that the starting money top stars receive/demand for actually PARTAKING in a non-grandslam non-super 9 tournaments (around 50000 dollar - 100000 or even more depending on the name, yes sometimes they already receive more for starting than they can win for taking the title). And count to that the advertisement contracts and all stuff in that direction. You'll get the picture... prize money is actually only 1 third or less (depending on the star) of what they earn.

Surely the most crafty female player on the court. I think she symbolizes female tennis better than people like the Williams sisters, Capriati or Davenport.

I think with Hingis absent, female tennis does lose one of the best players of today. Consolation, though, Justine Henin is very much like Martina Hingis - flawless strokes and intelligent tennis.

But, if Martina doesn't come back, above all, I will miss her face with all her cute expressions. Beautiful girl, Martina...

i thought about this when i read the news.. TBH i think Hingis has suffered a lot of psychological damage after losing in 5 straight grand slam finals (the longest streak on record, Venus is now on 4 straight after losing to her sister in all of the last 4).

Even if she comes back i'm not sure she'll be able to handle on court pressure. She doesn't take losing very well and so it will be very difficult for her to reach top form if she's unhappy about playing (according to her) the 'men' of women's tennis.

There are few greater sights in tennis than seeing Hingis' smug grin disappearing off her face as she gets blasted off the court.

So, yeah, I also hope she comes back. ;)

she is officially (Swiss press) taking a time-out to re-think if she wants to play tennis again. she will only start again when her foot is 100% ok and she is 100% fit. she admits that her break is for psychological and physical reasons.
she had an appearance lately by being the last person to publically ride Calvaro, the most famous Swiss horse! (that's not a joke)!

Martina's still probably the most talented player out there, but she's so timid compared to the moster women, that she'll never be able to compete with them. Personally, I think she's running scared from Williams.

This is true but, a brutal way to put it. She has nothing to prove to anyone of her worth. She has beaten Venus convincingly before. But, all the running those poor legs had to do took their toll on her ankles.

Will miss her a lot.

it's become a power game vinay.. hingis doesn't stand a chance against the top 5 women of the world.. maybe Henin, but not the others..

hingis had her game going, but she's just not powerful enough to play anymore.. personally i think she would be too afraid to come back even if she could.. she doesn't like to lose and can't stand being seen as a loser.
