How much more bad luck can we have this season? If ever there was a season that highlighted the need for a big squad, this is it.
I’ve been saying this for ages, there a reason international tournaments have recently gone from a 23-26 man squad and UEFA increased the named subs to 12 and the PL will soon follow this. You can now make 5 subs in games and this is huge because it allows you to manage your squads better, yellow, red cards, injuries etc. Throughout most of the season, united for various reasons have had between 4 and 7 players always unavailable for selection through injuries or other misdemeanours.

That’s why we need a squad of 28 players and subsequently 11 will have to be homegrown or from under 21 squad. The squads needs ; Three Goalkeepers, Ten Defenders, Seven Midfield players and Eight Attacking striker options. United with a wage bill last year of £382M should easily be able to afford that.

Two players for every position, when you realise that the club put so much faith in football mercenaries like Alexis Sanchez, Pogba, Zlatan, Ronaldo, Cavani etc you see what our issues have been; D De Gea is a great keeper but no keeper not even the best in the world which De Gea is not is worth £200k per week, let alone £375k per week. When you see an honest player like AWB who earns £120k per week, and works hard for his team you see the obvious disparity and resentment the morons running the club have caused, that’s why we don’t need any big time Charlie’s in the summer and ego maniacs like Dean Henderson, he needs to be out the door but good solid lads like S Mctominay need a break from some of the fanbase as he will come good as a BTB midfielder not as a CDM.

My 28 man squad next year including 11 HG players ;(3GK)
D De Gea, D Raya*, T Heaton(HG), (10D) , AWB(HG), D, Dalot, L Shaw(HG),T Malacia, A Frimpong*(HG), R Varane, K Min Jae*, Ndicka*, L Martinez, T Mengi(HG)
Midfield(7) , Casemeiro, S Mctominay(HG), Ericsen, Sabitzer*, Bruno, A Rabiot *
McCalister*
Attack (8) Antony, A Dialo(HG), H Kane(HG), M Rashford (HG), A Martial, J Sancho(HG), A Garnaucho(HG), W Zaha(HG)*

Looking at 3 Free transfers of N’dicka, Rabiot and Zaha with a spend of £250-260m on Raya, Frimpong, K M Jae, Macalister, Kane.

We can sell Henderson, Maguire, Lindelof, Teles, Bailey, Fred, Greenwood (after a loan abroad), Elanga for maybe £100-120M

It's a metatarsal injury ffs. People questioning if it could effect his career. This place sometimes.
Yeah it’s an odd place. Despite this being much better news than first thought some are now suggesting a metatarsal injury will ruin his career.

He’s going to be injured for a maximum of 8 weeks. Probably nearer 6.

Out medical team and doctors ought to be fined and fired. What’s up with all these recurring injury crises season after season.
I think its more to do with over playing. Victim of our own success in 4 competitions this year and inferior back up players that have limited rotation.

Martinez is a big loss but im relieved its an injury that will mend quite quickly and he will be as good as new next season.

Broke foot is better than Achilles injuries I suppose. It think it takes a while to heal, june July perhaps. Pre season should be OK. Its a ser back. I can see Shaw in there now, for some games.

Good news in a way. No chance of us rushing him back for the last games, he will be there for pre season, and it's not going to affect him long term.

Again though, we have to ask why so many of our players get injured so often. Are we not allowing proper recovery?

Agreed, does anyone on here know of the continued research regarding this issue from specialist to boot companies.? Some say its the sock boot too tight (size down ) and players getting new boots every week to the exercises to strengthen ankle over building certain muscles. I'm old school and, purely a pub opinion rather than any science, playing in a sock with studs on the bottom just never seem protective enough to me.

Are you serious? I honestly can’t tell on here anymore.
Maybe there was another injury but there definitely was one after which he lost a lot of pace.

Also there's an ignore button you could use(for both thread and poster) if it makes you that annoyed.

Well I think it’s fairly obvious that Rooney’s career was not affected by an injury in 2006.

Big loss he's been one of our best performers this season.

Regarding the injury going on past metatarsal injuries our players have had I'm confident he will come back better than ever..

People keep saying this when what you really mean is we need better players. Currently at CB we started the season with;

Martinez
Varane
Maguire
Lindelof
Phil Jones
Bailly

You see the issue? We have 6 Center backs, Jones barely plays, Baily we have given up on, leaving us with 4 that we have been rotating, 2 of which most people in here dont rate.

The problem is the quality not the quantity.

True. We have a very big, very expensive squad. All it shows is that, for the most part, the people responsible for assembling it have no idea what good value looks like.

On paper, we have a bunch of options for every position except centre forward. However, how many of these 'options' is actually the right standard or profile?

We've wasted a lot of money. We may start with Lindelof and Maguire today. That's £120m of spend, give or take. Poor value.

Also we’ve had Shaw and Casemiro play at CB in some games. But yes quality of the depth is more important than quantity. Just look at Chelsea as a prime example.

Rooney rushed back to be fit for the World Cup in 2006. Not sure he was 100%. He then injured himself during the tournament and kept playing on. It is a complete different scenario.

Martinez can take time and will be back for the pre season. There is no reason to rush back anyway, not like we are in the title race or final stages of the CL, or even something important with Argentina.

Shaw can fill in for Licha. But Shaw needs to get fit first. Most teams don't anticipate their starting CB's to get injured. Unfortunately, we do have Varane, who is prone to coming in and out of the team. Signing a young but growing CB with the physical and technical attributes to play in this team would be really good to have given Varane's potential for absence. Nothing too expensive, but young inexperienced enough not to feel the need to start all games, but good enough to replace Varane is a partner for Licha eventually ( he needs to be tall)

I'm dubious about playing Shaw at CB, yes he has the ball playing skills to play there, but he's also put in some woeful performances whilst playing there this season.

He's also going to be playing there in some very intense games too.

Played great there vs City and the post world cup games leading up to City
