On Saturday 28 March during the Fancy Fair event of the s.v. Grol the organizers of the International Marveld Tournament announced all the 12 teams who will participate in the 20th edition in 2009. Amongst those 12 teams, that will play on the under 15 tournament which will take place from June 5th till 7th in Groenlo, there are four newcomers. The level of the teams is high, 10 clubs have been or are still active in the Champions League and UEFA cup.

The newcomers are: Auxerrre from France, Valencia from Spain, Red Star Belgrade from Servie and Lokomotive Moscow from Russia. The four Dutch teams are: SV Grol from Groenlo, Feyenoord from Rotterdam, FC Twente / Heracles from Enschede and PSV from Eindhoven. Ajax Amsterdam will not participate this year, because they have to play for the national championship. The remaining four foreign top teams are Manchester United from England, Real Madrid from Spain and Hertha BSC from Germany (winner in 2008)

Taking a wild guess here - but could it be Gorre second from the left top row? (and by 2nd I am not counting the coaches :)
Yeah and the player to his left is Raheem Hanley I think and the blonde keeper is Jonny Sutherland

United beat Grol 2-0 - the other 2 matches ended with a draw. So before the last game tomorrow - 3 teams have 7 points and + 2 gd (United, Valencia and Anderlecht)

Which means - United will go through with a win tomorrow since Valencia and Anderlecht are playing each other tomorrow)

Ouch. Disappointing end. We've not done very well at all at Marveld recently have we?

No, we haven't. Why is that? Is it as simple as a slight lack of talent compared to certain other academies? Does it have something to do with our tradition of focusing on ability and letting physical development run it's natural course? We often tend to field very young sides in youth tournaments. Is that the case here?

10th, 10th, 6th, 6th, 9th, 8th over the last six years. Suppose you can't read too much into it because some great talents have played for us in those years and then come through (Welbeck, James, Norwood most recently etc). Guess it goes back to what Brian McClair was saying at the Premier Cup last August - there's no lack of quality compared to the top continental sides, our best players are as good as their best players, they just have more of them.

On picture 2 the lad holding his han up is Tyler Blackett.
The goalkeeper is Jonny Sutherland.
That tall dude seriously need to do some weight-training :) He makes Michael Bridges look fat

Thanks, Einar. Is Elliot Kebbie on trial or have we signed him already?

Tyler Blackett is a centre-half/fullback who played quite a lot in the 16's last year.

Kenji Gorre's father is a coach at Southampton and Kenji also featured in the 16's. He is a wide player.

Jack Barmby and Luke Hendrie are the sons of Nick Barmby and John Hendrie respectively. Both play in midfield although Jack plays out wide.

If I'm correct Chirag, Lee Hendrie is in fact John Hendries(Lukes father) cousin, so you weren't that far of...

...some guessing...
...Jack Rudge could be from Warrington, at least there was a Jack Rudge captaining their U11 schoolteam in 2006.
...Benjamin Pearson could be a striker from Todmorden, there where a boy named that in their U15 team last year, scoring some goals. There where also a boy named Benjamin Pearson scoring alot of goals, but he played for the U10 team, so if this is the right B.P., than his something special

I guess we will get some more information about some of theese players next year, if any of them playes for our U16/U18.
