A never-nude? I thought he just liked cut-offs.
BIG DUNK:

P-NUT:

BIG DUNK TACTICS:

Sócrates
(maverick) - has a solid defensive platform behind him, allowing him the freedom to express himself and attack. Surrounded by hard-working, technically-blessed, creative team players to link up with. Two prolific marksmen ahead of him to finish all the chances he creates. Vertical movements are encouraged. Sócrates' vision, football IQ, link-up play, powerful shots and dazzling flicks will all be on display here.

Inzaghi (liability) - strike partner to the industrious Kempes, who will assist and create spaces for Inzaghi. Inzaghi has a wealth of supply too (accurate crosses, through balls, cut backs, long balls and set piece specialists to feed off), taking advantage of Super Pippo's opportunism, positional sense and reactions. Inzaghi is not being asked to be an on-ball technician - I have created an attacking set-up that maximises Inzaghi's lethal movement off the ball, intelligent runs and array of finishing skills (both feet, volleys and headers). Inzaghi thrived alongside a supporting attacker and roving creative playmaker behind.

Tactical notes:

  • SUPERIOR CREATIVITY: abundance of playmaking across the pitch - crosses from the wings and intelligent short/long passes from central areas (mixture of direct vertical passes and horizontal switches)
  • CONTROL OF SPACE & TEMPO: midfield trio great with the ball: Cerezo and Coluna both technically skilled and possessing good ball winning ability. Stielike has the freedom to step into midfield and provide further cover and ball distribution.
  • GOAL GOALS GOALS - goalscoring responsibility shared amongst my forwards and their supporting players: Socrates, Inzaghi and Kempes were all 20+ goals-a-season players in their prime. 200+ career goals from Coluna and Cerezo, and 300+ career goals from my back five too.
  • DEFENSIVE WALL: Bergomi and Forster are two of the toughest stoppers of all time. Briegel and Kaltz will be solid in their respective defensive tasks too. Stielike is an excellent sweeper for the defensive line or destroyer in the anchor position.
Special player instructions:

  • Giuseppe Bergomi: support Kaltz against Ribery, who will be cutting in on his right foot (Bergomi the expert in that defensive right fullback/centreback role). When Kaltz ventures forward down the wing, at times the defensive line will be Bergomi-Stielike-Forster-Briegel.
  • Uli Stielike: sweep and cover (picking up the off-ball movement and runs of Cubillas and Lato). The ideal, consistent and high-IQ footballer to take up the responsibility of the libero role in this fixture (all-round creative and tackling ability).
  • Mario Kempes: play off Inzaghi as a supporting forward. Kempes will also combine in the left channels (inside/outside) with Coluna and Briegel. A lethal target for Kaltz's crosses.

P-NUT TACTICS:

Maverick - Cubillas has someone deep behind him to control the tempo the game is played at, and a wide playmaker in Ribery who he can link with to dictate our attacking game. He also has Rush ahead of him who is famed for working hard and harassing the defence. All leading to perfect conditions for Cubillas to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

The aim to get the most out of him was formed after watching this all touch video from Sjor...

As you can see he drops deep to get onto the ball quite often and breaks the opposing teams defensive lines both by quick through balls and with his ball carrying.

Liability - Stiles - A tenacious dog of a player who lacks slightly for technical ability. Here he's placed next to Scholes to limit what he needs to do on the ball, he also has Picchi behind him to add an out ball whenever he is pressured.

Rest of XI

The rest of the team has been designed around the Maverick and liability above.

The defence is set up with the attacking full back on Stiles side and Picchi in the RCB spot to present 5 options of playing out when Stiles has the ball. Vogts is the more all rounder positioned to provide more solidity on the right flank.

In midfield, Scholes complements both Stiles and Cubillas perfectly. He has all the strengths Stiles lacks, but still allows Cubillas to run the attacking game due to being positioned deep and rarely going ahead of the ball during sustained build up.

The flanks are manned by 1 play making winger and 1 more traditional winger that can stretch the pitch and chip in with goals when necessary. Ribery provides the attacking link up Cubillas would require, whilst Lato stretches the pitch and defence creating more space in the middle of the park.

Rush will pressure the defence and facilitate turnovers in the opposition half and allow play in quick breaks.

It'll be tough to seperate these two teams. Excellent defence from Dunk, particularly the central three. P-nut has mitigated against Nobby's lack of quality on the ball as well as possible by partnering him with Scholes, and that frontline looks tremendous, with the caveat that I've watched very little of Cubillas.

Well thought teams. Both mavericks are well placed, and liabilities don't look like liability at all. Inzaghi - Del Piero would be a better proven duo, but Kempes is a worthy replacement.

Picked P-Nut because i think this is the draft that United players should be reaching Finals. A below 80m worth draft.

To be fair to Stiles, badly fecking up a shot to possible comedic effect was a frequent threat to any player with the way pitches often were back then. You could make comps of even the greats known for shooting prowess like Eusebio having their share of smashing shots far off target, or miskicking with little power.

its not that, its the fact that this gif was made to showcase his ability on the ball so that makes it hilarious

ah. The rest of his game that day must have been a sight to behold if that made it in.

Reminds of youtube highlight creator that used to be one of the few that made them for Soviet and Ukrainian players. They were just short and regardless of position, usually focusing on the goals they had scored in bigger games. despite the lack of much non-goal footage, for the defensive players videos he would always have some absolutely brutal fouls and mistimed challenges in them, sometimes just as much as there were successful plays.

I reckon Cubillas is rinsing that midfield so the question is if Stielike decides to step up to shut it down.

Inxaghi looks well poised too.

Glad the team is well liked, turned out basically how I wanted it to minus a couple of players I originally had planned.

Also like Dunks side, only issue is a back 5 against a solitary striker leaves them with a lot of marking space rather than a player, and with Stielike sweeping it leaves a lot of opportunity for players to switch off.
