List of preferences of managers "available" now (available I would class as managers who there is some hope would leave current club for United, even if not fully realistic to be instant, or international managers, but those who haven't allegedly also said to be not interested like Zidane):
  1. Roberto Mancini
  2. Luis Enrique
  3. Erik Ten Hag
  4. Graham Potter
  5. Brendan Rodgers
  6. Mauricio Pochettino
Southgate is in the garbage tier with Ole. Pochettino and Rodgers would be an improvement probably, but not much cause for any optimism and would be pretty depressing appointments. Mancini and Luis Enrique the 2 guys with the balance of experience, success and proven to be quality coaches. Ten Hag big potential but huge risk of flopping hard outside a system like Ajax. Potter a good coach but only experience with Brighton, it's a different world at United.

I'd swap Mancini and Enrique and swap Poch and Rodgers but that's pretty much it.

In real terms the top two aren't going to leave their national team before the WC anyway.

Of course sods law now dictates that we'll lose the next two games heavily, Ole will be sacked, and we won't be able to find a replacement.

I'll be delighted if the board's idiocy is shown up that quickly.

Better than giving it 4-5 months and watching Conte's Spurs finish above Ole.

The same Maguire that Pep wanted?

Either Maguire doesn’t belong in that list, or you don’t consider Pep a progressive-thinking manager.

Pep can make errors in judgement.

Yeah agreed. But then again, Enrique and Mancini is not available before 2023 and Ten Hag before next season(if he wants to come here). Which means this season is a write off.

This season is a write off irrespective of what we do now. Conte was our only lifeline in salvaging it, but now that opportunities looks to have gone we're left with either Ole, a caretaker, or Rodgers/Potter jumping in now. Barring a miracle, neither of those scenarios are realistically going to give us a strong finish.

It wouldn't be my preference, but I do think that's where we are heading, now.

Ole until May, Rodgers/Pochettino after that if Ole can't get 4th place.

Fans thinking like this is a detriment to the club. We should be challenging for titles. This is a pathetic take.

That at least forces the club to act. It’s soul-destroying to think that we’re stuck with Ole for the foreseeable future. A reasonable choice of new manager would at least bring some renewed hope.

Perhaps the club can then try to poach Conte from Spurs.

Yep.

Unless we buy Rodgers out at Leicester. After all, he did leave Celtic for Leicester in February even as they were on their way to another title. :nervous:

Think we all know we should be challenging for titles, think he means that is all the owners care about and will keep him in a job. Not what he and the rest of the fans think is good enough.

TBH, I dont fancy Rodgers/Potter up against Pep, Klopp, Tuchel and Conte.

I feel like we will really regret not going for Conte, like we regretted Klopp and Tuchel.

If he doesn't personally think that, great, but it's something there are people on this forum think. They legitimately believe it's okay for us to turn into the old Liverpool just to watch a memory on screen. They think "Oh we were good for a while, we can suck now, it's okay as long as it reminds me how it was to be young".

I'd argue it was over before it even started - we should have shown Ole the door after the debacle at Gdansk last summer, but keeping him on, and throwing those new players into the mix which he's clearly unfit to manage just sealed it, especially with how our rivals have improved.

I mean I'm surprised its taken this long for a large number of fans to come round to the idea that our manager just isn't very good, and we were always going to have an underwhelming season, exciting signings or otherwise. But hey better late than never.

I dont think that's what the poster wants, it's what they're predicting the board will do

Why not go for ten Hag in the summer? People are very eager to sack Ole from the bat. Do they really think that Conte (who btw isn't the man for the job) is going to do miracles with Fred, Lindelof and Pogba and turn this season around? (that is looking like a season where we are fighting for the last 4th spot against west ham and arsenal btw) Why not make top 4 and say goodbye in the summer? Whoever you think the manager should be i really don't see how sacking Ole immediately now is going to save the season.

See how the rest of the season goes (I think the Glazers will see it out unless we have several big defeats/crash out of Europe)...

If we improve/top 4/win something, Ole likely stays...

If we don't win anything/not in top 4, Ole gets replaced by Ten Hag, Potter, Poch, who knows...

Support team in the meantime...

So, 3 years on, and £415m spent. It is still about Top 4?

Nah, we’re not talking about “good/bad” here, we’re talking about technical proficiency in a player. Nobody would say Lisandro Martinez is a better player than Maguire, and yet the former is a starter for a very progressive-thinking manager.

Maguire is decent technically, which is probably more than we’ll ever be able to say about AWB and DDG. He’s in a bad run of form as all players go through, yet this is being exaggerated due to his price-tag.

As others have said above, it's a prediction of what I think will happen rather than what I want to happen.

Ole will surely now be here for the duration of the season at least, as there aren't any options for a mid-season appointment available to us.

Whether he is still here next season will probably be dictated by whether we qualify for the CL or not.

Mancini and Enrique are definitely won't leave until world cup.

Top 4 is just the cherry on top. The real achievement is the cultural reset and the good vibes around the club.

Trophies are good, but feelings are priceless.

I'd be happy with any of these, with marcelo as a bit of a wildcard.
Erik ten hag
Brendan Rodgers,
Marco Rose,
Marcelo Gallardo.

Trophies are for egos, man! Get out of here with even that! It’s all about propagating that United DNA and winning the eugenics race!

Nothing will happen I feel and it's another case of wait and see where we are at the end of the season (which will probably be 3rd or 4th)

Ole will have his customary good run of games after a spell in which he could have been sacked (this is the 4th occasion now), probably with wins against Atalanta and City, and all will be well... until the next crisis :nervous:

Yup my bad for jumping on you a bit. Hard to tell sometimes

We make our thoughts heard…

There are few fans left supporting Ole, but about 95% of our fanbase are tired of glazers/Ed’s incompetence. We boo the board and Ed most of our matches regardless if we are winning or losing, not much but that’s the least we can do.

I’m pretty sure that the clubs no.1 target to replace Ole is Poch, he might become available in the summer if the season at PSG doesn’t pan out well which I think is likely. In the mean time, I expect that the club are hoping for dear life that the club doesn’t have a terrible run like we have just had and be forced to sack Ole early.

I'd really really like Luis Enrique, but the probability for this to happen is close to 0.
Peter Bosz would be a great shout as well.

I think we should stay clear away from Brendan and Poch, we either get an upcoming and promising coach or either one that has a history of winning. Poch and Brenand are miles away from both ends of the story.

Olé is going to be at the wheel until at least Xmas now (but even that would probably require another 3 PL losses or something.) People are going to have to accept that.

As for managers that could replace him if/when he goes. I reckon it will be one of the following:

Ten Hag - wasn't going to leave Ajax midway through the season so look out for the Sunmer.

Poch - Don't see him lasting at PSG if he doesn't win the league. However, I'd imagine he will get to May as they'll win the league.

Rodgers - I don't think this is too likely but it is Utd we're talking about.

Zidane - questionable as I cannot see him in England. My feeling is he will be the next PSG manager. If Poch hangs on there and Utd offer crazy money it may be a possibility.

Not overreact like Conte is the only man on the planet that could do a good job.

We can beat Atalanta, but i think with OGS it is hard to expect anaything spectacular in the future.

A bit worried we'll get Southgate if Ole goes. I shudder at the thought.

The op says what do we do know? My post is what I THINK will happen, I didn’t say this SHOULD (or shouldn’t) happen and as a match going fan, I’ll do exactly what I feel like.

We are going in circles. How many times we have to improve under Ole ? Every season there is a crisis. But there is no progress.

Match going fans should act. We are waiting for far too long, it will be 10 years soon. No standards are required from anyone at the club : board, manager, players, fans. The former 3 are happy to collect the money and the fans are stuck in the past.
No big club would accept that but us.
