The Raiders are thinking of improving their D by drafting Matt Millen out of Penn St.

Their D is old enough, Raoul, I don´t think they want to draft such an old guy.

Can anyone fill me in on Mike Ditka? Heard good stuff about him.

Has he been released yet? Heard he wanted out, but I think he´s still contracted to the Bolts.

He is still a Charger, but they're thinking of making a deal because his contract pays more every year and he's got a big bonus coming. The Dolphins are trying to add some leadership on D, so he would be ideal.

Mel Kiper's ESPN Insider Mock Draft:

Round One

1. Cincinnati Bengals -- Carson Palmer, QB, USC
Thus far, nothing has changed with my projection of Palmer going No. 1. But Byron Leftwich is working out for coach Marvin Lewis and the Bengals in Bradenton, Fla., on Monday. And this is a situation where the Bengals would like to have their No. 1 draftee signed by the draft, so any contractual sticking points could cause the Bengals to call an audible. But right now, it still looks like Palmer.
2. Detroit Lions -- *Charles Rogers, WR, Michigan State
The Lions still need a go-to No. 1 receiver for franchise QB Joey Harrington, and Rogers fits the bill. He's a remarkable talent with Randy Moss-like potential.

3. Houston Texans -- *Andre Johnson, WR, Miami-Fla.
This is a hot spot for a trade. Depending on the health status of OT Tony Boselli, the Texans might need a left tackle. If that's the case, Utah's Jordan Gross, who's the best offensive tackle in this draft, would be ideal. If Houston deals down from No. 3, they'll look at Gross. But if they remain at No. 3, I think they'll take Johnson, because they need a big-time weapon for QB David Carr.

4. Chicago Bears -- *Dewayne Robertson, DT, Kentucky
With former Tampa Bay Bucs general manager Jerry Angelo as the new GM for the Bears, Chicago is moving towards the Bucs' defensive style. The Bears want a Warren Sapp-type player, and Robertson has moved slightly ahead of Jimmy Kennedy on the defensive-tackle board.

5. Dallas Cowboys -- Terence Newman, CB, Kansas State
The Cowboys have already added DB Donald Mitchell, who could be a starter but is more of a nickel guy. So Dallas needs another corner, which was a weak position for them last year.

6. Arizona Cardinals -- *Terrell Suggs, DE, Arizona State
Suggs, the NCAA sacks record holder, still maintains this spot. But free agency could impact that, with Arizona and Seattle still in the mix for Vonnie Holliday's services. But I'll stick with Suggs here.

7. Minnesota Vikings -- Jimmy Kennedy, DT, Penn State
The Vikings need a big defensive tackle next to Chris Hovan on the interior of their defensive front.

8. Jacksonville Jaguars -- Byron Leftwich, QB, Marshall
With a new general manager and head coach (James Harris and Jack Del Rio, respectively), there's a new scenario in Jacksonville. QB Mark Brunell's career is winding down and he's had some injury issues in the past. Leftwich would be too good to pass up as the heir apparent to Brunell.

9. Carolina Panthers -- Jordan Gross, OT, Utah
The Panthers need a right tackle more than a left tackle, but Gross can play RT and he's the best offensive tackle on the board.

10. Baltimore Ravens -- Kyle Boller, QB, California
Boller is moving way up. At this point, based on my estimation and ratings, I think he's a bit overrated. But he's got a great arm and he had a strong year. Boller made dramatic improvements under coach Jeff Tedford. Internally, Baltimore feels QB Chris Redman can get the job done, but the Ravens are still in the market for a young, big-time quarterback.

11. Seattle Seahawks-- *Johnathan Sullivan, DT, Georgia
Seattle could not stop the run in 2002, so their major need is defensive tackle.

12. St. Louis Rams -- Marcus Trufant, CB, Washington State
The Rams have been depleted severely at cornerback. In fact, they probably need not just one but two. If Trufant is available -- and I'm not convinced he'll slide this far -- he would be a great pick for the Rams.

13. New York Jets (from Washington) -- Taylor Jacobs, WR, Florida
Losing Laveranues Coles, the Jets need a wide receiver. Ironically, with the pick they get from Washington for Coles, they could get Jacobs.

14. New England Patriots (from Buffalo) -- Kevin Williams, DT, Oklahoma State
The Patriots key need area is defensive tackle. They want a guy to put next to Richard Seymour, and Williams brings lots of versatility to the defensive front.

15. San Diego Chargers -- Boss Bailey, LB, Georgia
The Chargers are revamping their linebacking corps. With Junior Seau no longer in the mix, they're moving Donnie Edwards outside, and Boss Bailey would give them lots of flexibility. If they want to leave Edwards at middle linebacker, Bailey also can project to safety, which is a weak area for San Diego, given the departure of Rodney Harrison. Bailey would be a versatile guy in the back seven, and the Chargers need significant defensive improvement.

16. Kansas City Chiefs -- Michael Haynes, DE, Penn State
I had Chris Kelsay going here, but I'm switching to Haynes now because he had a solid workout and was one of the most productive defensive lineman in the country. He had a great Senior Bowl. With the worst defense in the NFL last year, it's safe to say that Kansas City needs defensive help.

17. New Orleans Saints -- Dallas Clark, TE, Iowa
The Saints need a pass-receiving threat in the middle of the field for QB Aaron Brooks. Clark would take pressure off WR Joe Horn.

18. New Orleans Saints -- (from Miami) -- William Joseph, DT, Miami
Joseph would improve the interior of New Orleans' defensive front.

19. New England Patriots -- *Kelley Washington, WR, Tennessee
The Patriots need a big receiver. They have capable smaller receivers like Deion Branch, Troy Brown and David Patten. Washington would be the big receiver they so desperately need.

20. Denver Broncos -- Jerome McDougle, DE, Miami
Denver needs a definite pass-rushing upgrade.

21. Cleveland Browns -- Eric Steinbach, OL, Iowa
He can play guard or tackle, and the Browns need help at guard. He's flexible and could be a starter at guard immediately, depending on other personnel moves on the O-line.

22. New York Jets -- Ty Warren, DT, Texas A&M
Warren had some great games in 2002 before hurting his ankle late in the season. When he was healthy, he was one of the nation's best defensive tackles in a banner year for DTs. The Jets could use another impact DT to work into their rotation. Warren has outstanding strength and explosive up-field speed.

23. Buffalo Bills (from Atlanta) -- *Dewayne White, DE, Louisville
The Bills need an outside pass rusher. They've upgraded their front seven via free agency, and White would help them continue their D-line renovation project. In 2001, he was one of the the nation's best defensive players, but his performance suffered in '02 because of an ankle injury. When he was at full strength, he was a force off the edge.

24. Indianapolis Colts -- Dennis Weathersby, CB, Oregon State
He's a veteran of the Pac-10 passing wars. The jury is still out on whether he'll be a success at the next level, but Weathersby has the size and speed NFL teams look for.

25. New York Giants -- *Kwame Harris, OT, Stanford
Right tackle is a key need area for the Giants. Had Harris stayed in school, he might have been a top-five pick in the 2004 draft, so he's a value pick here. He underachieved in 2002, but if he can sustain a high intensity level, he could become a Pro Bowl tackle.

26. San Francisco 49ers -- Chris Kelsay, DE, Nebraska
The Niners need a pass-rush threat opposite DE Andre Carter, and Kelsay would fit the bill.

27. Pittsburgh Steelers -- *Rex Grossman, QB, Florida
The Steelers need a young QB to develop. They passed on Chad Pennington in 2000 to draft Plaxico Burress, but I don't think they could afford to pass on Grossman if he's available. If I'm the GM of the Steelers, I might even move up to get him.

28. Tennessee Titans -- Larry Johnson, RB, Penn State
He had a tremendous senior year, averaging more than 8 yards per carry. Since RB Eddie George has battled injury the past couple of years, Johnson would give Tennessee some insurance at running back.

29. Green Bay Packers -- E.J. Henderson, LB, Maryland
Henderson would be an immediate factor, especially upgrading the run defense for a team that needs a stout MLB.

30. Philadelphia Eagles -- Bryant Johnson, WR, Penn State
The Eagles could use an upgrade at wide receiver. Two years ago, they used their first-round pick on WR Freddie Mitchell, who hasn't panned out. Johnson has size, speed and athleticism.

31. Oakland Raiders -- Troy Polamalu, S, USC
Given Polamalu's phenomenal career, you could make a case that he's one of the top 10-15 true football players in this draft. USC coach Pete Carroll raves about him. The Raiders used their first-round pick in 2001 on S Derrick Gibson, who hasn't panned out. Polamalu would be an immediate starter and major upgrade at safety.

32. Oakland Raiders (from Tampa Bay) -- *Wayne Hunter, OT, Hawaii
Hunter is something of a wild card, which means he might be just the guy the Raiders would like to bring into the fold. He's a former defensive lineman who moved to offensive tackle. He has great physical ability and lots of upside, so he could develop into an excellent NFL bookend. Had Hunter returned to Hawaii for his senior year, he could have been a top-10 pick in the 2004 draft.

Round Two

33. Cincinnati Bengals -- Tyrone Calico, WR, Middle Tennessee State
The Bengals need a big receiver with speed. Right now they have Ron Dugans, who is big but lacks speed, and Peter Warrick, who isn't especially fast. Combining speed and size, Calico had an excellent combine and a good individual workout.
34. Detroit Lions -- Bradie James, LB, LSU
Detroit doesn't have any linebackers of consequence, and James can play inside and outside. For a team with few choices at linebacker, he would give them two good options at either middle or outside.

35. Chicago Bears -- Chris Simms, QB, Texas
Kordell Stewart is only a bridge to a new, young quarterback. If the Bears don't pick a quarterback in the first round, they'll look very seriously at Simms here.

36. Houston Texans -- Jon Stinchcomb, OT, Georgia
The Texans need a left tackle to protect franchise QB David Carr, who was sacked an NFL-record 76 times in 2002. If the Texans take a wide receiver in the first round, they'll have to get a tackle in the second round. Stinchcomb is a solid pass-blocking left tackle, which should make Carr happy.

37. Arizona Cardinals -- Nnamdi Asomugha, CB, California
Arizona needs defensive backfield help, and Asomugha is very versatile. He played safety and cornerback at Cal and has excellent size, so the Cardinals will be able to fit him in somewhere.

38. Dallas Cowboys -- Musa Smith, RB, Georgia
The Cowboys need an heir apparent to Emmitt Smith, and RB Troy Hambrick is not the short- or long-term solution. Musa Smith has been building lots of momentum leading up to the draft, and he's an outstanding inside runner. Replacing Emmitt Smith with Musa Smith wouldn't be a bad plan.

39. Jacksonville Jaguars -- Jeff Faine, C, Notre Dame
The Jaguars want to cement their interior offensive line. Brad Meester can play center or guard, so that versatility should allow them to pick Faine. He should be able to stick at center and help shore up the line.

40. Minnesota Vikings -- Sammy Davis, CB, Texas A&M
The Vikings need help at corner to strengthen up that porous defense, and Davis is one of the top four cornerbacks in this draft.

41. Baltimore Ravens -- Calvin Pace, DE, Wake Forest
Baltimore is weak on the defensive line and needs a defensive tackle to play opposite Anthony Weaver. Pace had a solid career and an excellent workout.

42. Seattle Seahawks -- Cory Redding, DE, Texas
The Seahawks made some additions via free agency to upgrade the defensive line but could still use another defensive lineman. Redding can play tackle or end, which gives the Seahawks much needed versatility.

43. St. Louis Rams -- Kevin Curtis, WR, Utah
Curtis would give the Rams the wide receiver they've been missing since Az-Zahir Hakim left. After Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce, the Rams are shorthanded at receiver, and Curtis is one of the fastest receivers in this year's draft.

44. Washington Redskins -- Mike Doss, S, Ohio State
The Redskins added Matt Bowen this offseason, but they need another safety. Doss is a solid safety and also would offer punt-return skills.

45. Carolina Panthers -- Andre Woolfolk, CB, Oklahoma
The only reason Woolfolk will slide this low is because he's a converted wide receiver and is still somewhat raw. But he has good upside potential.

46. San Diego Chargers -- Kenny Peterson, DE, Ohio State
The Chargers couldn't stop the run last season, and Peterson would give them some depth. He can play end or tackle, and now he's up to 296 pounds.

47. Kansas City Chiefs -- Bryan Scott, CB, Penn State
The Chiefs had the worst defense in the league last year, and this pick would upgrade their secondary. He's a combo guy with cornerback skills and safety size who can fit in either spot.

48. Buffalo Bills -- Jason Witten, TE, Tennessee
The Bills want a tight end who's a complete player. Witten is an excellent blocker who provides a good receiving option in the middle of the field.

49. Miami Dolphins -- George Foster, OT, Georgia
The Dolphins need an offensive lineman on the left side, and Foster can be that guy once he maximizes his physical ability.

50. New England Patriots (from Miami) -- Justin Fargas, RB, USC
Fargas would be an upgrade over RB Antowain Smith. He has a ton of ability and had four 100-yard games down the stretch last season.

51. Denver Broncos -- Rashean Mathis, CB, Bethune-Cookman
The Broncos need defensive help. Mathis was a free safety at Bethune-Cookman, but he showed cornerback skills at the Senior Bowl practices.

52. Cleveland Browns -- Eugene Wilson, CB, Illinois
After a great rookie year, CB Anthony Henry fell back in 2002, and Daylon McCutcheon appears to be more of a nickel back than a starter. The Browns could start Wilson and move McCutcheon into the nickel role.

53. New York Jets -- Julian Battle, S, Tennessee
The Jets need a big defensive back with versatility, and Battle is just what they're looking for.

54. New Orleans Saints -- Charles Tillman, CB, Louisiana-Lafayette
Tillman played safety and cornerback and was an underrated player in the college ranks.

55. Atlanta Falcons -- Vince Manuwai, OG, Hawaii
Manuwai is an outstanding guard prospect and also can play center, so he would provide the Falcons with a great deal of versatility. They need to continue to upgrade this position to protect QB Michael Vick.

56. New York Giants -- Nick Eason, DT, Clemson
The Giants didn't have any real depth to help at this position when Keith Hamilton was hurt last season. Eason is a boom-or-bust type. The Giants could hit the jackpot with him, but he has to be more consistent.

57. San Francisco 49ers -- Brett Williams, OT, Florida State
The 49ers need a true left tackle to upgrade the offensive line, though Williams is a bit inconsistent. He certainly has the ability to be a good NFL player and to start as a rookie.

58. Indianapolis Colts -- Bennie Joppru, TE, Michigan
Joppru is a combo guy who can catch the ball fairly well and is also a hard-working blocker. The Colts need that to complement TE Marcus Pollard.

59. Pittsburgh Steelers -- Drayton Florence, CB, Tuskegee
The Steelers were torched in the secondary last year, and Florence's stock has been steadily rising after an outstanding week of practice at the Senior Bowl.

60. Tennessee Titans -- Al Johnson, C, Wisconsin
The Titans need a center who projects into the starting lineup, and Johnson also plays guard.

61. Philadelphia Eagles -- Terry Pierce, LB, Kansas State
The Eagles have needed a middle linebacker since Jeremiah Trotter left last year. Pierce is exactly what they need -- a run-stuffing middle linebacker.

62. Philadelphia Eagles (from Green Bay) -- L.J. Smith, TE, Rutgers
The Eagles need another tight end to compete with Chad Lewis, and Smith offers some underrated ability.

63. Oakland Raiders -- Tyler Brayton, DE, Colorado
The Raiders need help at defensive end. Brayton has a non-stop motor and good pass-rush ability.

64. Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Onterrio Smith, RB, Oregon
While RB Michael Pittman had a solid year, the Bucs could use another running back. Smith is a great pass receiver and a solid kickoff returner. He would provide a dimension beyond just being a speed back with home-run hitting ability.

My mistake above. That USC QB is Carson Palmer. I read that the Eagles want to get a linebacker.

The Eagles are in deep shit. They lost Shawn Barber, Hugh Douglass, and Blaine Bishop. They signed Nate Wayne, but they've got to do alot to replace Douglass.
