It's alright, Teddy got revenge for us last night
Such a shame really - At one point during Soccer Aid I genuinely thought "you know, he might do a job in CM for us" about him.

If Rafael and Park can, so can he. He'd add some flavour to our CM for sure.

Get. Coat.

Apparently Sir Alex agreed a deal after the Aldershot game (no official deal though).

£2.75m + more than that in add ons, unless it's risen following the play-offs.

I've heard it should be sorted this week.

It's third hand information so I wouldn't trust me (a bloke on an internet forum), but personally I've got no real reason to doubt it. During the celebrations last night (back on Gresty Road I think) fans were asking the management about Powell, this info originates from there (and not from a boot-cleaner or the like).

What sort of deal is "no official deal"?
The gentlemanly kind Sir Alex probably makes all the time.

I have been to every Crewe-forum on the net I can find - and practically everyone is convinced that he will join United in a deal rising to £5 million if he becomes an England international.

I hope they are right

Shite, I just saw his goal against Cheltenham. Fantastic strike.
He looks the goods so far. Is he an AM a la Kagawa style? Or can he play a bit deeper in midfield? Certainly talented and at ~£3m worth a punt on a solid prospect for sure.

wiki:

Powell is a technically gifted player with notable composure, anticipation and creativity. He is praised for his ability to find space on the pitch in which to both receive and pass the ball, a quality which allows him to dictate the tempo of games and maintain possession for his team. He plays often as an advanced midfielder, sometimes in the second-striker role, but can also play a deeper-lying role. In addition to midfield positions he is comfortable on either flank as well as playing as a striker.

This Powell kid's a midfielder though, isn't he? Keane's a striker.

Hmmm

Hard to gauge really. Powell is a year younger and has been excelling in senior football and created that moment of magic in a high pressure game.

I am not sure how Macari has come to that conclusion as I think that you would have to lean towards Powell at this point. That said, I remember in our last lean era Macari harped on and on about how Ronaldo and Rooney were not good enough to succeed Keane et al and lead us to glory.

Why was he spouting this anyway, does he not want us to sign him?

You reminded me of this...

"Barcelona a spent team" - referring to Barcelona 2008 team...

"Ronaldo is a disgrace to the game" ....Dunphy

Besides

From what I have read it is £2.75m + performance related add ons that could rise to £4m.

We spent 7m on Bebe and 3m on Obertan so I don't know how Macari has come to the conclusion that Powell is over priced.

He just saw the £5m tag put out by certain papers and might have thought we were offering that amount up front.

We're back to 2005 here - Chelsea hijacking all our targets again

I look forward to the day of the titanic transfer battles between City and Chelsea over one of our transfer targets after another.

it is a fee that would *rise* to 5 or 6 million...i think it'd be 2-3 out the gate. something to keep Crewe afloat (they need 1m a year to keep the academy going) and with add-ons and Powell's progress would tip up to 5-6.

as for City. they already pissed Crewe off with the Dan Smith saga last summer...

Ah Chelsea. The young player's graveyard. Beats me why anyone youngster would want to go there.
