Nicky Butt is my player of the season

Not the most gifted of ball players I know, but I think he's been fantastic this season, we seem to lack a bit of 'bite' when the Gorton Ginger is out, and he frees up whoever is alongside him to attack while he holds the fort.

I know RVN will take the title of POTS, but I'd give it to the Butty boy.

Agree totally. This is one of his best season's imo, because people are actually talking about him as tho he should be a first choice, or at least in the reckoning. Some achievement after losing a bit of ground in recent years.

I allways reckon since he got since off against Barca & Arsenal early on in 97/98 (i think) hes stood still. That season he was almost first choice but he never got back into it after that. His form this season reminds me of why he was the first of the bunch to burst onto the scene and why Fergie rates him so highly.
In all honesty i wouldnt swap him for Steven Gerard.

Incidentally Scalesy - that's how rumours get round. Gorton Ginger? I think that's rhyming slang.....

Champions!
Butt has always been a great player -- totally United. With Fergie staying Butt ain't moving.

I was delighted not just that he scored a goal yesterday but that he scored such a great goal.

I hope it gets him to the World Cup -- he deserves it -- he must have been sick last time when Hoddle sent him home!

Murt that was the treble season sent off for handball against BARCA in that incredible 3-3 home tie. Sent off against the Arse that same weekend. He has been quality and its nice to know he is getting some attention because of it.

You're right Barca. Nicky Butt is an absolutely brillaint asset to the squad. Solid & Reliable, and most of all, loyal. I think he deserves all the praise he gets :)

Nicky Butt is a gem of a player - one in a million. Future Keano replacement no doubt. Shame he has never played more than a few times for England tho. But he, Phil and Ole are one of a kind.

I don't like to disagree, But he was at fault 4 Westham's 3rd goal,,,I think his best game was against Newcastle at home this season 3-1.

Oh surprise suprise... some can't handle people giving some POSITIVE words about a player and have to spoil it

If you cut Nicky in half he'd have 'Manchester United Football Club' written through him like Blackpool rock.

A local lad done good, top player!

Nicky looks much sharper this season, and although he hasn't had so many starts he looks effective whenever he takes the field. Recent interviews show he has an excellent attitude, which we know is of fundamental importance to Fergie. Nice to see him get a stunner of a goal.

I see your point Tareq, but Nicky's distribution will only get better with more regular opportunities. :)

Joe Cole was at fault for our first goal and didn't even score; but I bet he won't get dropped for the next game.

That's what the forum is for, disagreeing. You feel free to do that when you are not of the same point of view.

If some of us don't think Butt is as gifted as Keane, better than Gerrard, or some kind of mascot for United then we are entitled to say so.

Butt is a solid player. Keane he is not. Our tightened midfield let in 3 on Sat.

This is SAF's opinion on him:
"We always expect Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt to do well because of the experience they have.

"Nicky was integral to our resurgence earlier this season, he's been absolutely marvellous for us."

I liked that comment, Fergie knows his worth and thats what matters, i hope Nicky's progress continues and he can fill Keanes boots later on.

Won't happen. Nicky is a good understudy and squad player, but will never become a player of Keano's quality. He's 27 years old!

I think he's been superb this season, but still not the quality of Keano. He's not as good going forward and he's passing is far more erratic than Keano's. I like Nicky, top bloke, but for the sake of Man United, I hope he'll never have a more regular role than he has at the moment.

Nicky would produce great performances if he became first choice, simply because he'd be getting the games in which to improve and build match sharpness. Its not fair to compare him with Keano, because Keane is the best in the world and at the moment there isn't anyone who could replace him satisfactorily. Nicky is a more limited player than Keane, he's not a box to box type, but an anchor man - more like Ince was supposed to be really, but more disciplined and with a much much better attitude. Anyway Keane is here for another 4 years!

Well, I don't think Liverpool would agree to that deal either, so don't worry!
