Poor decision to go into the new season without this sorted to be honest.
I 100% agree with this and would even go as far as selling Henderson this summer. I wasn’t convinced by Henderson last year, even if he is better at dealing with set pieces. De Gea is our number one.I voted Henderson last season.
With the arrival of Varane, however, I’m very interested to see de Gea. If Maguire and Varane are able to compensate David’s major weakness (physical/aerial presence + distribution) and De Gea resurrects his mid-2010s shot stopping prowess, who knows. De Gea is similar to Casilias in his goalkeeping style.
Also, have to admit, I didn’t see anything outstanding in Henderson. He is a good keeper, but not Man Utd No.1 class.
The competition thing doesn’t work with GKs. A striker or winger who gets benched will get plenty of sub appearances to come on and show what they can do. A GK on a bench though might go weeks with no minutes at all. And the longer they go without minutes, the rustier and more mistake prone they become, so it’s a negative spiral.I like the current situation a lot. I rate Henderson as a potential long term #1 and having DeGea there to push him to fulfil his potential is amazing. However I accept that DeGea will start season as #1 and it’s his place to keep with the pressure Hendo right there to keep him on his toes.
Thank God for that. De Gea is the far better goalie out of the two. Hendo isn’t good enough yet.Manchester United boss Solskjaer hints that goalkeeper decision has been made
"David called me over the summer, and asked about coming in earlier and having less holiday because he wanted to be ready. For me that was a great message that ‘I am here to fight, I’m energised, I have looked at my situation and will give everything I can to be the best David de Gea'.
"We know the best possible David de Gea is probably the best goalkeeper in the world, and it looks like he's moving closer to that form. He’s in his 11th season here, what a servant we’ve had, and with his energy, pride and desire we’re very pleased with him - long may it continue."
Solskjaer revealed there will be significantly less goalkeeper rotation this season.
"You always want a settled first 11. You don’t need to chop and change your goalkeeper as much. When you’re a keeper, you don’t really run that much. It’s more mental energy with some physical."
Henderson had a injury + covid therefore he will stay till January.Full disclosure; I am actually a goal keeper and always have been. For that reason I think I've always had an eye for a good goalkeeper and of course an eye for the not so good goal keeper.
I think with DDG the problems are more mental and can be overcome. We know how good he can be and we just need him to remember that as well to get him back to his best. With Henderson I have no doubt at all that he is a good goalkeeper but I just don't think he has what it takes to be a great one.
Much like Foster, Heaton and how ever many United goalkeepers have went on to have decent careers I'm sure he will too. In fact I think is even a level above those nearly men we've had in the past and probably surpass their careers. I just don't think he'll be one of the best around and really that's what me need at United.
There's no point messing round rotating goalkeepers and Heaton is a capable enough understudy. There is no point letting Henderson stagnate so he should be moved on either on loan or sold. If DDG can get anywhere near back to his best he can give us a couple of years and let us look for the next top, top talent.
Is it even a question anymore?
For half people it isn't. Henderson, who still waits for first world class save in our shirt, is better . Amazing, just amazing. Is it even a question anymore?

Don't forget that he is "vocal and controls the area". Love that.Oh but he is confident which somehow is enough for some people and counts more than any actual talent he might have
What does that even mean?I think were a better team with Henderson in goal even though DDG is a better keeper
It means I trust DDG to make the saves over Henderson. But Henderson comes for crosses and is quicker with his distribution which helps us a bit more in the gameWhat does that even mean?

Do you have any evidence to support the last bit? Have we scored more goals from it, any goals at all? Not saying that distribution isn’t important, but Henderson isn’t really on Ederson’s level is he.It means I trust DDG to make the saves over Henderson. You dont need to be Ederson levels to be better than DDG. And yes we have scored goals from it. Brunos volley from greenwoods cross last season was one from Hendersons quick throw to start the counter.Do you have any evidence to support the last bit?
