One of the problems this team has had being in Europe is we’ve needed to keep a bigger squad for rotation purposes. We currently have a team where the starters are far off being the required quality so what does that say about the squad players. We end up stockpiling players who aren’t good enough and keep them even though they offer no value to us.
This team needs to be ripped up and by finishing outside the European places, we can cut up to six players without needing replacements. So many players have survived here by because they’ve been given a chance by the new manager. More than half of this squad don’t deserve it. Keeping a small squad when the new manager arrives eventually will allow us to build a stable first 11 and force out those who see no playing time.
This will also help us in FFP terms as we can allow more sales without needing to replace all the departures.
