DDG, Shaw, Maguire, AWB, Fred, McTominay, Ronaldo, Fernandes, Rashford, Greenwood.

Do these players have any genuine threat to their position if they're fit?

Telles scored a worldie against Villarreal, he hasn't played a minute since. VDB showed promising signs against West Ham, a couple of nice tackles and passes, not stepped foot on the pitch since. Henderson some decent saves against West Ham, nothing since and probably going to leave.

Then you have the likes of Maguire rushed back in to the team and performing horribly and nothing happens. Baily sits there on the bench and knows a static Maguire playing at a 3/10 level is preferred. Sancho sees Rashford come back into the starting XI after being back in training for 5 minutes which shows you who Ole trusts more. Cavani, Lingard, nice cameos sometimes but no run of games because we can't disrupt Ronaldo, Greenwood, Fernandes etc.

You have to trust all your players, not just a subsection of them. Not give them 5 minutes and if they haven't scored a goal then they won't see a minute again for months. Our starting XI have no threat to their position, there's no consequences for running into each other like clowns or not tracking runners who get tap ins, you're guaranteed to start the next game.

I can agree with you on everything except Telles. The reason he does not start is that he is way too slow to run up and down. He got hella exposed against West Ham in the cup. Especially against Fredericks..that was painful to watch...

You make some good points. This is one of the weaknesses of Oles management. There are no consequences for poor performances for his favourite players.

Some players who were fantastic at their former clubs have been marginalised unfairly by Ole and not given the proper run of games they deserve.

Probably should have noticed that before we bought him.

He has 13/14 players, and they play even if injured or out of form (Maguire, Shaw)

Any chance of trusting them or earning their trust looks to be gone after today so I wouldn't worry.

Hella exposed = dribbled past once, which only led to a goal because of a deflection and wouldn't have happened if Matic had more mobility or VDB made a different decision. Not saying I rate him, but he sure as shit is better than Shaw in this form. Same for Bailly - Maguire and VDB - McTominay.

I agree with the OP, but it's too little too late now. Ole's finished.

It's not it's absolutely spot on and pretty much sums up the most fundamental problem with Ole's management.

There is no consequence to playing well or badly because Ole either doesn't see it or deliberately ignores it. It's been a constant problem since his first season and over time it creates a culture of players losing any will or reason to push themselves because there is literally no point.

Bailly is not great (and so is Maguire) but that a 50% fit Maguire has played this match says everything what you need to know about Solskjaer.
Especially after he was exposed against Leceister, but gets put right back in against Liverpool. Why even have a squad?

What's his beef against DVB anyway?
The only thing I've ever been able to make some sense, is that he was signed as a Pogba replacement, but then Pogba ended up not going to Madrid. Doesn't make total sense though, since Ole still can't figure out how to use Pogba to any effect regardless.

Because he has no system. He just has players.

If you have a system, you can slot in a 'weak' squad player and not lose too much. You can blood a youngster - or even a few - and still be pretty confident of scraping a win and getting valuable rest time for the first teamers, experience for the kids, plus a general sense of purpose and togetherness throughout the organization. When he first arrived and started talking about youth, and the 'tips and tricks' he'd picked up from watching SAF, I was interested to see what he'd indeed picked up. Almost right away he showed none of that level of cohesion-building ability. It was clear he didn't map out minutes over a season, like SAF and his staff did.

You forgot his terrible defensive performance against Atalanta.

I think Maguire has improved our defence but he is in poor form and not 100% fit....therefore he must be replaced for Bailly.

Bailly can't play worse and it would be a sign that the coach has the balls to put him on the bench.

No, it is one of Ole's failings. Builds a big squad and then plays the same core over and over. We saw it at the end of the 2019/20 season post-pandemic. It will alienate some players whose proposed status upon signing would have expected them to play more (VDB, Henderson post-loans, Bailly, Telles) and also gives you little room to turn when things get really sticky such as now. We don't expect to see anyone outside the core play, because selections have told us they are strictly second choice.

One thing that most of the top managers do now, especially those who spend multiple seasons at a club, is rotate regularly. All players can play at a moment's notice and understand their role if others are missing. It ensures that the whole squad feels as if they are contributing, sharing a more collective responsibility for the results of the first team.

I doubt it will make a difference now, players like Bailly, Lingard and VdB will have serious questions why they are not trusted or given a chance, an unfit Maguire is preferred over a fit Bailly, VdB doesn't even get a sniff despite the atrocious form of McFred and Matic.

Rotation is not about making wholesale changes, it's about tweaks and changes to ensure players are fit and fresh, an example is Konate starting at Old Trafford ahead of an in-form Matip, because Klopp wanted to rest Matip, and Konate has the pace to deal with our fast forwards.

You're spot on.

Can we take a moment to remember he did not make a sub until the 100th minute in the final against Villareal. He just doesn't trust his own squad and there are no consequences of poor performances. How can he expect his players to remain happy playing a few minutes here and there?

Has Lingard even had a kick since his 90th minute worldie at West Ham bar a couple of last minute pointless sub appearances?

I think this is a casing point in Ole’s downfall being the inability to take an out of form player out of the heat and replacing with a suitable alternative who remains sat on the subs bench slowly rotting.

If he starts Bailly he probably wouldn’t be getting anywhere near the amount of flak he’s getting now, mightn’t of won but would have been a whole lot better than Maguire.

He can trust them at Salford. His time here is over. After the players leaking they're done even though he's a nice guy, the position is toxic

If lingard isn't signing a new contract (and this should include Pogba) I wouldn't hand out minutes to him.

That said, there are loads of players being burned by ole's "favorites" constantly playing. Mctominay has been one of the worst offenders for a long time.

Not sure about trust but Ole rarely rotates because we lack a system. We dont really have a way to build up our attack or a shape while defending, its mostly pass it to Bruno , Rashford and Ronaldo.

If we look at City,Pool or even Brighton as a matter of fact they seems to play a certain way regardless of the starting 11. I wish Ole had spent last summer coming up with a few formations to utilize all players but looks like hes sticking with 4231 till the end which is sad considering we have just 1 defensive midfielder and even hes past sell by date

No one can answer this apart from Ole himself. From all the news I have read about Donny he's been incredibly professional the entire time. He gives it his all in training and doesn't sulk, he just wants to be given a chance. Then there's the fact that Everton wanted to loan him and Donny was open to move but Ole blocked the deal which makes it look like he is honestly trying to sabotage the lads career on purpose.

I mean, you are the manager and ultimately it's your choice at the end of the day who you want to play fair enough but if it's clear you don't want to use him then at least let him move on. It's shocking how he's treated him. Are people seriously saying Donny is a worse alternative than Fred or Scott? Only Ole thinks that.

And there’s still some that feels all the players are behind him and use a old Bailly quote about Ole as proof…! Ole is a done out here and it’s sad but he has to go!

Think I've seen/heard one or two reports saying Ole is stubborn and doesn't want to be proven wrong about VDB / also persists with McFred to prove a point.

Unsure of how reliable that is but if true, it's absolutely shocking.

Man, if you do not get a run of continuous games, you do not get to adapt to the game in England. Training everyday just to not play is not going to increase the intensity.

The op is right. All these players now need to play more. Show players like Maguire that is not guaranteed to start.

Shaw had been bad, telles at the worst
is going to leak goals just like Shaw. Not going to lose anything, I have hope that telles might turn out to be a decent player.

I'm not really desperate to see Bailly or Dalot, but his treatment of Van de Beek has been pretty shameful. He's never been given any sort of chance, despite the midfield being an absolute shambles. 141 minutes so far this season, 5 of which were in the league. Maybe he's not the saviour who'd turn it all around, but McTominay, Fred and Pogba sure aren't either. I fail to see how he could possibly do any worse in the mess that the midfield continues to be. At least we'd know for sure if he ever actually got a few games.
