I was slightly appalled when we reached 5-0 and the commentator said this would be the first time we'd won a game by 5 goals in the league since Fergie left. So its feels extremely satisfying to smash that particular stat by a further 4 goals.

Biggest win in 26 years.
First time in 20 years we scored 6+ goals in 2 league games at home.

Only one without a hat trick. A true orgy - everyone got off.

After Ipswich were beaten 9-0 in '95 the advert outside newsagents in Suffolk for the East Anglia daily times read "Ipswich in 9 goal thriller!"

There should have been at least 5 minutes more injury time.

Someone said City winning 3-0 would have pundits purring and i honestly thought only 3?
This game is going to mess me up until we play Everton

Edit 8 different goalscorers in a game must be a record surely?

This is true actually. KDB only has to cross the ball once and we have to watch 10 minutes of replays and suffer the City love in.

The Ipswich game looks far more impressive as it finished against 11 men. The Leicester vs Southampton game was 10 men after the 12th minute and yesterday's game ended with 3 of the goals against 9 men.

If Liverpool won 9-0, even if every goal was a dodgy VAR decision, this morning the pundits would be all over it. Best team in the world, title charge starting, back to their best.

Cos its us its just 'oh but VAR.'

In the space of 90 minutes we caught up with Liverpool on GD. Nice one Soton.

we lost a title on goal diff

well out of order for a ref to call time before it was done

maybe they should’ve called time before qpr stopped playing and not played added time

Not comparable to the Ipswich game in reality. Saints having a man sent off after 2 minutes and being badly short of first teamers has to be taken into account.
Good to improve the goal difference but that's it.

Good to get some goal differential back but there's nothing else to take from this match.

Only in that sense not comparable. But Ipswich were losing left and right in that season.

The three main things people are taking away from this game is:

We had a night thats one for the history books
Everyone got some confidence.
It was so much fun!

Even with 10 men, teams dont typically come apart at the seams the way Southampton did. It would have been a shock if we DIDN'T win. But the scoreline is absolutely nuts. In the reverse situation I'd still expect the team to have a chance at beating Southampton if we went down to 10 men.

In comparison, Wolves also played vs 9 men and they did absolutely nothing.

But: Everything went our way, it was a lot of fun, and it gives the lads some hype going into the Everton match. But most importantly we fixed our awful goal difference.

Has a manager ever won a game 9-0 in the PL and still been fired at some point?
Liverpool won 9-0 against palace in the old first division then lost 4-3 to them in the fa semi. We beat them in the final. Think it was Dalglsh who eventually got the sack.
