Zlatan

Flamengo and Tuchel

I wrote out a big spiel on how I was playing a boring 4231 as I couldn’t find balance in the team and how to fit players in and as I was about to post it I dropped zizinho for neymar and changed the shape last minute. and feck knows how it would go but it’s more fun than 4231, I just really wanted mbappe upfront with Romario and still fit zico in so ended up with this.

could be a lethal attack, great assist support behind them with neymar happy to drift wide. Solid cover by gerson and kimmich, width from the full backs. Could make a game of it

Formation 4-2-3-1

Defence, Van Bronckhorst has more licence to go forward while Anderson will be more decisive minded.

Engine room: Souness and Captain Marvel, two complete midfielders with crunching tackles and both also have the ability to drive the team forward when they have the ball.

Figo, Gazza Barnes
3 great dribblers, with Gascoigne being the one looking to run beyond Stoichkov.

My first thoughts when looking at the team is that mbappe and Romario are going to terrorise your centre backs.

souness and robson will have their hands full watching zico and neymar so will be dangerous for you if one of them does go forward too much.
you will cause me trouble on the wings though, depends how much help you would get from your fullbacks.

No arguments there, defence was my biggest worry looking through the teams that Robson managed and Rangers was the lack of really good defenders (from the players I've heard of)

Is Areola the goalkeeper that has spent the last 2 seasons on the bench for West Ham?

Yes he is haha, I dropped a bollock there
Think the keeper situation needs addressing personally otherwise you have created a pretty fun team to watch, I’ll give myself a pat on the back for the Flamengo pool :D

A never-nude? I thought he just liked cut-offs.
Opted for Scholesy here as Zlatan just seemed too cavalier. Very little workrate from the four attackers collectively, and both Gerson and Kimmich could benefit from a defensive specialist partner given what's ahead of them. The dodgy keeper just compounded things. I think that immense Robbo/Souness/Gazza midfield would have taken control here, and Figo/Stoichkov/Barnes had the quality to convert that into chances and goals. There's so much potential for Zlatan moving forward in the draft though with that immense quality up front.

Scholesy was shafted with his pool in terms of top-notch defenders, although Gerets was available at RB which would have improved things in terms of draft forum reputation, and there was Blanc and Adams as potential CB leaders too. Leftfield shout, but big bad Basile Boli would have been a nice partner for either, with his small but fairly committed fan club of @Šjor Bepo and I.

It is gun ho and I really struggled to create a balanced team, I thought kimmich could be there as more of a defensive midfielder. I really like the four at the top but one may have to go for the next round. No idea what I’ll do yet, one things for sure, I’ll probably feck it up

zlatan is basically playing with 8 players when he doesnt have the ball with 3 of those 8 that are not known for their defensive game.....

Missed the vote but my thoughts too. Two kryptonites clashing here. 1 - heavy-legged British defenders against incredible Brazilian 1v1 ability; and 2 - hard-working two-way counter-attacking specialists exposing off-the-ball softness. Would probably have plumped for PS with the game management of that midfield three. But Zlatan’s team has the highest ceiling with a couple of tweaks.

Gough might have been a decent shout, boasting some impressive athleticism that could have matched up reasonably well with Zlatan’s attack. Otherwise, not a great pool for this assignment. Ronnie Mackinnon who passed away this week would’ve arguably been the best fit from the Rangers pool. He often kept McNeill out of the Scotland team, was very quick, and apparently had a great game against Pele in 66.

 Nah, you've got great options to reinforce from Scholesy's team alone, and you probably made the right call going gung-hu against an overmatched defence.

On Kimmich, there was a fair bit of discussion around him among the Bayern supporters on here not long ago and there seemed to be a consensus that he needs legs and athleticism alongside him, be that from a No. 6 or a defensively strong B2B player.
