If Liverpool lose and we win our game in hand then we are only three points off the champions.

Ole has us in a title race.

If only we had signed a few good players before the start of the season, we could easily have taken advantage.

If we sign Telles, Cavani and Sancho then I think we can still win the league. Maybe we should see if we can get Upamecano, then we have a chance in the CL.

If our defence continues the way it is currently Sancho won’t help one bit.

I'm fine with taking time to evaluate our current league position. The problem is we can't wait for other clubs to slip up to have a chance.
We seem to be building from front to back. In SAF's years he build a solid defence first. We don't have that. We're on the verge of signing Cavani and i'm not even excited for it because i know we need world class defenders.
Woodward bungled our transfer targets yet again.
Results like this Tottenham game doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that the club is still being run by an investment banker and all footballing related decisions is tied to this individual.

League was never won in the first 3 months.

I get emotions are still raw after the tonking.

But our shitshow of a summer and non existent preseason has contributed.

Id back ole to turn it around after the break and this team is definitely better than we have shown.

We just came off the back of an impressive undefeated run to end last season.

  1. Our board and owners run this club as a Business and as a football club we are shambles
  2. We have an average manager who can get some good results but overall his game management is crap.
  3. Most of our players are brainless. They don't know when to clear the ball, when not to make stupid challenges, when to play from the back and when not to etc.

On point one, shall we organise some sort of protest?

I do agree there should be more unity among us fans but there is none. There are Ole fans who feel he is doing a good job and it's all Woodward and co. messing it up and fear to hurt the legendary player's sentiments. Then there are glazers and Woodward apologists who are the worst for me. Then there are Jose fan boys who are just here to take digs at Ole. We have been divided for long.

Win would be difficult, but I think we could challenge. Especially If we somehow pull off getting Sancho.

This is going to be a very disruptive and wierd season.

I’ve said it before many times, the team that has the best depth and avoids any major injuries will likely take the title or finish top four.

No surprise that pep is struggling without his key players.

Perspective - we finished 3rd last season following 3 months of relegation form. Look at Bolton Wanderers or Bury and see how things can really go pear-shaped for a football club. We haven’t even hit the lows Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have found themselves in over the last 5 years.

Tottenham is run like a business and they're doing fine. We can be run like a business without forgetting the importance of winning. We're delusional about being a top club because we're a top club commercially while being second rate on the pitch. If that shambles today doesn't wake Woodward up to his incompetence nothing will

Perspective, the team has not system in place, we don't seem to have a specific way of playing when in procession or out of procession. We could buy Sancho tomorrow and 4 more players, i might give the team a lift but we will revert to were we are right now. We have to have a identity for players to come into, which we don't have.

But in all seriousness. We just need time. And four more world class players.
4 world class players should take us about 8 transfer windows with this regime. We're more likely to apologize to smalling and give him a new contract at this stage.
Not easy managing a squad with a defence that makes Titus Bramble look like maldini and the likes of Pogba who needs to be motivated either by a manager change or a new contract.
I know it's just 3 games in but there's absolutely no excuse for games like this. Lack of characters in the team and paying the price for not getting our transfer business sorted early. Could have looked at Upamecano at the beginning of the window but we didn't and then he signed an extension. The fans let that go hoping the focus would be on Sancho and that would get done soon. Look where that's gone now. And to top it all, we now want Upamecano. A club with football background folks running transfers doesn't end up in situations like this every window. Perspective is great but there's just too many players in the team who are unmotivated or not good enough.

Thanks for the perspective. I had certainly lost mine after today.

I do however think the concern runs a bit deeper. We were poor at the end of the season and Ole keeps persisting with the same midfield even though it is as plain as day that it is the main problem, totally exposes our defence.

Its concerning that he doesnt see this.

I think United will come out better after the international break. It happened last season as well after mini camps and short breaks. They'll hopefully have time to recoup and get some much needed training time under their belt atleast for the players who are staying back.

Cavani & Telles coming in at a good time to put a boot in the ass of this team but we are still MILES off even hoping for top 4.

Wow, some of the comments on this thread. "Unlucky, we'll comeback better, etc. etc." we are an absolute joke at the moment, from top to bottom, and I'd have a grand bet with anyone on here now that we won't make top 4. United have so many delusional fans it's untrue.

So many people are talking about this as individuals who are failing and today you can easily throw that accusation at the whole team. But lets not throw the baby out with the bathwater. There are a lot of individuals who are at fault but looking at our first few premier league games from a high level we can see that:
  • Our back five are not playing with confidence. As such, you can see often in games, that the FBs keep pulling themselves in closer to the CBs to give some extra cover, creating more space out wide. In a well drilled, confident defence, the players back either other to do their jobs and collectively cover all the threats.
  • Our forwards are not playing with confidence, not playing with speed and pace and not backing themselves. Forwards live on their form and normally in this day and age if a player isn't in form they get benched and gradually get given the chance to recover it. Due to our lack of depth up front on the bench we are actually arguably playing three players who are out of form (maybe four if you include Bruno but it's hard to find the player if they're not feeling it and making the runs)
  • Our midfield should be capable of providing more cover to our defence. However, because our attack is floundering, they are trying to force things more from midfield, leaving less cover at the back.
  • All of the players look exhausted, both physically and mentally. At the end of last season, they were running on fumes to get over the line and get top-3 and they only just did it. Everyone at the time were saying they were all shot and needed a break. If anything, they look even more tired this season. Considering each time VDB has come on he's working at a much higher tempo than everyone else in red, I don't get why he doesn't get a start.

The same problems that were there last season are still there. In fact, most of them were there the season before with Jose.
  • Each year we do our business far too late in the window which creates uncertainty at the club, and means we have a really fragmented pre-season/training. I'm sure Woodward congratulates himself by saving 1m in salary on the top earners by signing them late in the window, or by playing brinksmanship with other directors to see who blinks first, but this has bitten us in the arse season after season now. Get the player in, get him settled in a house, get him socialised with his new team mates, and get him on the training field for a few weeks so he gets used them. The teams that do their business early in the transfer window normally see the benefit. I'm sure Woodward loves his football manager 2020 and all his sports science data/algorithms for finding the right players, but these guys are people and to get the best out of them they need to feel settled.
  • Our defence still plays like strangers and our attack still plays like strangers. I'm not advocating getting rid of Ole since that will just perpetuate the cycle. However, SAF over his years would routinely search around for new blood to bring into the coaching staff, with new ideas, new tactics, new energy. Whilst it's important to have coaches who are loyal to United and 'know the united way', there should be room for both. I still don't get how Carrack a year after getting his badges is such a leading coach at United. I don't want a doctor fresh out of medical school operating on me, I want someone with more than book experience. I feel we need the new equivalent of Rene back at the club - someone cherry picked in for their ideas.
  • As far as the team goes who is the coach that takes responsibility for the defence setup? Whoever it is should have been let go ages ago since they can't seem to get the basics right. Same for our attacking structure. Quite rightly we get accused of having no pattern in games and other teams are setup better than we are. This is the whole of the coaching staffs lookout.
  • As seen in the last three premier league games, there's not enough heart on the field. There's not enough characters - not enough chatter. Maguire was supposed to be giving us this, but tbh when you screw up as royally as today it's a bit hard to gee up the rest of the team.
We have a lot of holes in our team, and each year we have a right to expect 2-3 good quality additions to improve the areas in which we struggle, and sweet Jesus we needed them this year just as much as any other of the painful post fergie years. But even if we got Sancho, Telles, Upamecano and whoever else, we still have to resolve these things above, otherwise we will continue to do what we've been doing for the past 8 years, buying good players and making them play like average players. Ole was pushing us in the right direction on this, but it's not just him - it's everyone at the club. The manager, the board, the coaching staff, the playing staff, the scouting (recruitment) staff

I'm not advocating getting rid of Ole. I said in an earlier post that he may not be one of the best managers in the world, but he's what we need right now to push us in the right direction. He's clearly fuming at the team and fuming at his board, but walking out or being pushed won't help anyone. He needs to work inside the system to change it.
