Because Alex did not name him as one of the world class players he has worked with over the years.

Well that's petty.
Depends. If it's a case of momentary forgetfulness from the boss or a purposeful omission due to unsettled beefs. He blackballed Keano after falling out with him, pretty much, so who knows if that's the case with Schmikes.

Great player who was world class....but what the feck was he thinking signing for City, that wall always tarnish him for me.

If I remember rightly they got a 1-1 draw at OT with Schmeichel in goal, he celebrated as if they’d won the World Cup.

It was on a video that Rio Ferdinand shared on social media - it might be a couple of years old but it featured a team talk from Fergie for a charity game after he retired and was managing his old team and was in the dressing room talking to the players and he mentioned that "Schmiechel doesn't talk to me anymore because I didn't say he was world-class".

DDG has been winning most of the POTY awards, during the last few years. That's how good he is. A match winner. Peter S, is in the same class.
Keane, Beckham and RVN should be added to that list. If these 3 players were in our team (and performed like they did for us previously), they'd instantly make us title favourites.

Not sure why Fergie omitted these player names. Old age, perhaps?

If I remember correctly, the quote about world class players came from one of his books. It wasn't a case of forgetfulness when put on the spot in an interview. He knew what he was doing when he made the statement.

Yes but it's in the 2nd book and he is quite clearly talking about outfield players who can get bums off seats.

The whole paragraph is clearly talking about outfield players and the requirements for being world class. He praised Schmiechel in the same book.

If this is true then it reinforces the stories about Schmiechel.

In the season we won the treble didn't Fergie drop him and send him off on holiday because his form was so bad and then he came back and was superb? Jose would just have called him useless and blamed him for defeats.

Probably because he had a falling out with Keane and Beckham, lost respect for Schmeichel when he played for City, and thought less of RVN for how he was supposedly behaving when Ronaldo was first making starts. I could see things like that being a factor in Fergie's opinions.

World class, One of the greats of all time, Absolutely immense figure

Just a bit of an annoying, arrogant, cnut.

If you read the book he clearly explains his criteria.

He certainly made a difference when we beat Newcastle 1-0 at St. James' back in 96, and went on to clinch the title.

I can't be bothered to watch the video, but did it seem like a joke?

He was injured if I remember rightly, or so he says. Personally I think he couldn't bear to step onto the old Trafford pitch wearing the city kit.

Keane and beckham yes. Rvn i'd say not. He was at the club in a weird lull.

Also, ddg has won poty as we've been fairly shite. If he had been that good but we'd won the leagur an outfield player would have won it. Just like they always do. Not saying hes not class but yeah, winning poty in this team for him is fairly easy.

100% this. It was debated a lot the day after on MNF with Neville and Carragher. We can accept that the great man got this one wrong.

No.1 - Fergie's naming of the world-class players was tongue-in-cheek and a bit clever in order to sell more books.
No.2 - The dressing room comment was bit of banter.

People love to run with throwaway comments. The world of social media at play. Everyone is always angry about something.

Yes

Didn’t he «sulk» when Keane got the armband back after his injury too?

If my dad was ever this moody, I'd disown him

Who is angry?
What an odd comment

It seems Schmeichel is the only angry one.

SAF had three world class goalkeepers in Schmeichel, DDG and VDS. Only one of them signed for Shitty.

The former United boss of 26 years, who won 13 Premier League trophies, believes that only Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Eric Cantona and Cristiano Ronaldo deserve that title.

"They made the difference and the evidence is there," Ferguson said.

This quote from SAF was obviously bullshit, probably to have a dig at Keane. We had way more world class players than that, and Ferguson had called many of them world class multiple times over the years.

This. Nothing in this really. Fergie has spoken highly of many players in the past.

I recall one former United player - think it was Keane, not sure - saying PS was a bit of a poser, and Ince said something along the lines of him not being in tune with the schoolboy banter of the dressing room or being the type of guy you made up nicknames for, so it sounds very much as though he was - still is I suppose - a bit precious and easily upset.
SAF let PS leave for a country with a warmer climate as PS reckoned it might help his back problems, then obviously he stayed in Lisbon for a year then came back to VIlla which must have pissed Fergie off then, even worse, he signed for City a while later which must have really rubbed it in. Fergie did him a favour letting him leave then Schmeichel does that.
The image of him and Gary Neville in the tunnel before the game always makes me laugh, Neville making it so obvious he was blanking him and didn't want anything to do with him.
He was a great keeper, though.

Do you feel the same way about Andy Cole?

I tend to give Cole and Schmeichel a pass as they joined a city side that was never going to threaten us .

Still annoying obviously but it's like retiring at a nursing home after you have achieved all you wanted
