This started with the below tweet from Piers, suggesting that Beckham wasn't as good as people say he was:

Since then he's had a few responses and came out with this:

And then this:

He's wrong isn't he?

David Beckham was an amazing free-kick specialist, but that's it...

I'm not a fan of Piers Morgan, but he's 100% on that Beckham is massively overrated.

Piers Morgan in absolutely stupid opinion shocker. Of course he's wrong, Beckham may not have been absolutely world class, but he was a quality player and was instrumental in a lot of United's success when he was here

"Take away the free kicks and crosses" and he's not all that. Well, take away Messi's dribbling and shooting and neither is he.

Funny comment to make. Like Beckham wasn't part of a team that stopped the "Invincibles" from winning the league 4 out of the previous 5 seasons. He's just on the WUM.

Muhammad Ali wasn't that impressive as a boxer if you ignore his movement and ability to hit people really fecking hard.

Oh no you didn't. I've always thought of Beckham as a player of the highest quality. He was part of a generation of England players who, for whatever reason, didn't achieve. His career for United was incredible though.

Maybe don't use Odell Beckham as your example to bash someone. He's lived off one catch in his rookie season in a game the Giants lost to carry his reputation, and he's been a negative to his team's most seasons. This year he got lucky that a team going all in decided to take a punt on him

Irony is the invicinbles are overrated as hell since their achievements boil down to one single league title, some failed European campaigns and an FA cup win in which they were dominated from start to finish.

He wouldn't play in Arsenal invincibles because he played for a better team under a better coach.

I've actually always believed that his celebrity status was used against him when judging him as a player. He was an indisputably world class footballer. One of our best players in one of our greatest ever sides.

You’re thinking of David Bentley.

Piers just fishing for attention.

How to tell us you never watched Beckham play without saying you never watched Beckham play.
Obviously, I'm not saying Beckham was a bad player or something. He was a solid contributor for Man United for years.

Beckham was arguably the best free-kick taker in the world together with Juninho.

Piers Morgan is an attention seeking cnut.

Seems like he reeled in few big ones on this fishing trip.

It's what I like to call Scottish Syndrome. "Yeah, the English might have all the architecture, fertile land and art but I bet they're well jealous of the way we beat them at football once a decade."

You should go back and watch his performances in '99. It's insane how underrated Beckham has become.

But what a league title it was. Nobody beat us home or away all season.

Something you will never see Utd do if you live to 150, but carry on.

Take away his crossing, free kicks, general passing, goalscoring, defensive contribution, work rate & leadership and what is he then?
Genius, millioner, playboy, philanthropist.

I’ve always said it, but Beckham was underrated as a player. His overall celebrity got too big and overshadowed everything, also the fact that he played in teams that were stacked top to bottom with world class talent. He was one of them, both for United and for Real Madrid. I genuinely do believe he was underrated.

He had a tremendous football brain, and aside from his free kicks, his crossing and delivery from wide is as good as there has ever been. He’s such a unique player, an absolute wand of a right foot, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a player so consistently hit the mark with crosses. Every time I was one of our corners fail to beat the first man, or I watch Dalot or AWB cross it out for a throw in or goal kick, I think of Beckham..

Their 'invincible' team did feck all in Europe for a reason. They were riding their luck a lot of the time. Nowhere near our treble winning side or 2008 team.

They are invincibles yet only had 90 points. Someone may as well call them the Drawables.

Sure, take away Xavi's composure and passing and he was just a short Spanish dude

We probably won't but while it's a rare occasion it doesn't make that Arsenal team harder to beat than Chelsea of 04/05 or multiple United sides under Fergie.

Oh, and we beat you that season and so did Middlesbrough (twice), Inter, Dynamo Kiyv & Chelsea.

Beckham would replace Ljunberg and they’d be a much superior team for it.

Either you have no idea who he was or you are that 2000s kid who just go by stats in the FIFA FUT card.

They did though, it just wasn't in the league. I'd much sooner see my side win the three biggest trophies in football all in one season than go undefeated and only win one (and also not setting any points, goals, goals conceded records either) ;)

Everyone goes on about Solskjaer and Sheringham scoring our goals in the 99 Final but seem to forget that it was Beckham who put the ball in perfectly for both of those corners.

For Piers to say we should ignore his best ability, which wasn't just world class but near godlike, is the first sign of a man losing his mind

Shame he got robbed of that ballon d'or in 99 as it would have done a lot for his reputation when faced with this shit storm of a take.

It probably wouldn't have. We would hear the same morons saying he only won it because of his celebrity status.
