I'm not sure why we gave him a contract if this is the level he's at. It certainly can't be because of nostalgia. Oh hell, we all know why; because he was free. The drop in quality below Varane and Martinez is absolutely insane.

Having said that I'm very confident that our attacking play is going to get much better this season with the options we have. In terms of build up I'm quietly confident. Defensively we're fecked.

I know people are gonna crucify that performance especially after that scoreline, but I thought we gave Arsenal a proper game. We lost by a deflection off of our 5th choice CB and didn't win because of a marginal offside. Arsenal are better than us in possession, but our gameplan was solid and on another day it works.

If Martinez is out for any length of time, we're screwed. I think it's time for Casemiro or McT in defense as Lindelof and Maguire just bring the worst out of each other. I'm dreading the game against Brighton already.

I'll end it on a positive note, Hojlund looks great. I know he didn't get a real chance at goal, but his physical presence showed what we've been missing. Lovely flick for the Garnacho goal too. Antony was a good outlet down the right when they pressed harder and he drew fouls and kept possession well. He is also pressing very effectively and winning the ball a lot, not just today but so far this season. I think Hojlund will enjoy playing with him.

He tracked back twice and made 2 key interceptions.

That's a sore one, the way victory seemed snatched away from us, but there was a lot of positives today.

I thought we looked good on the ball in deep and central areas. The ability of Onana and Martinez in particular to hold the ball in central areas for extended periods was promising. You can see we wanted to build up slowly from deep and then transition quickly, but the ball tended to fizzle out as soon as it reached the halfway line. But it's a base at least and prevented Arsenal from exerting extended periods of pressure. Once Martinez went off and Maguire came on we just couldn't do that anymore, and it's noticeable Arsenal ramped up the pressure after that.

The big problems are still up front. Martial was totally absent, he looks shot. Antony gets involved but lacks any end product. Rashford was ok, but isn't the kind of player to get involved in build up at the best of times.

If Hojland was fit from the start to replace the missing Martial; if Amrabat was playing instead of Eriksen to screen that first goal; if we had Varane and Martinez seeing out the game instead of Maguire and Lindelof/Evans, does that change the outcome? I feel like it might.

So I'm not going to toss myself off a building for that performance, even if the way it ended made it somehow sting more than if we'd performed worse.

I think what you're saying here would apply to the first half. I thought we were shite overall, and didn't get our foot on the ball and couldn't string two passes together.
But I thought we played well in the second half and was finishing the game quite strong. They were extremely fortunate. That was not a 3-1 game. No chance. One of the tightest offside calls you'll see, and a deflected goal for them. And we finished the game with Johnny Evans and Harry-fecking-Maguire as our CB pairing.

Easily our best performance of the season so far... I thought we we brilliant in the second half. Held them all the time and then hit them on the break. I reckon VAR got the offside wrong - they decided very quickly and without lines. But as soon as it was ruled out, I knew we'd lose.

Unlucky deflection but still think Onana could have done better - it didn't take it a long way from him. I feckin hate arsenal fans.

Not sure why people are blaming dalot and there's no way they'd have got the third if the second hadn't gone in. Might also been OK if we'd had our two starring CBs.

Result looks like disaster, but it could also be 2:1 for us and three points. I don't think that Arsenal played some super game. They will be top class when they will get someone like Haaland, proper striker.

Nobody should have any doubt anymore about how much of lucky general Mikel Arteta is.

At best Arsenal deserved no more than a draw out of that match, ridiculously lucky to end up winning 3-1. VAR with a another huge say in a match Garnacho appeared to have scored the winner on 88 minutes and having seen it a few times I'm not sure where VAR seen it as onside

No luck in matches with Ten Hag or with injuries. Away to Arsenal and finishing the game with Evans and Maguire was always a recipe for disaster

Positives: Dalot played well on the left, Hojlund is looking like a good target man. Very strong. We also defended quite well, Saka and Martinelli were nowhere to be found for the majority of the game.

Negatives: Eriksen was absolute garbage and it's a shame Amrabat wasn't available today, we should have brought him in way sooner. Martial shouldn't ever start when Hojlund is fit, I don't share this vision of slowly integrating a new player when your other option can't do anything right. And why the feck did he bring in Evans? Was Lindelof injured? Because he was solid today apart from that awkward spinning ball situation.
