Bit of a smash and grab after a good start to the game. Onana and Maguire were excellent, Dalot and Varane good too.

Negatives were being a bit too easy to cut through at times and Rashford and Garnacho weren't at their best. Don't really care though, the result was all that mattered.

If we do sell McTominay in the summer someone can fecking pay up that 40 million. He might not be the best starter in the world but his goals are worth a good chunk of money.

Some new tactics from ETH - McTominay for Rashford. Much more effective than McTominay for one of Mainoo/Casemiro

Dalot was very good, Hojlund continues his scoring run and Onana is quietly looking much more settled in goal.

Big win that.

Most people were settling for a draw so to go and get a win is a big plus even if we didn't put in a 10/10 performance

Taking Rashford off gave us a bit more possession and we looked a threat again for long periods, Garnacho having a lot of attacks. It was a good win away minus the 40 min long Villa flurry.

Well done to McTom Onana, Dalot, they've provided some important moments

Good win against a top side, havent done that in a while. Three very winnable games coming up against Luton A Fulham H Forest A.

Still many improvements to be made but players are in better form which is good to see like Holjund, Dalot, Varane, Maguire & even Onana sort of.

Casemiro is finished he is a liabliity in midfield he has been all season, Mainoo is a star & already shoulders much responsibility, once we find his midfield partner in the market then we are going to be much better.

Credit to Matty Cash for his panto villain performance today. Being the diving, conniving, love-to-hate-him character that was destined to be mauled by the unlikely local hero in the final act.

We all love United
Watching Unai Emery animating and acting on the sidelines was absolutely annoying me to bits. Delighted that we beaten them twice

Poor performance on the whole, we were at 6s & 7s at the back all game, the ball was like a hot potato back there too.

Our build up play and trying to break teams down is pitiful, it's like watching us under Moyes at times.

We'll take the win and move onto the next one.

I'm kind of confused by everybody's "we played poorly comments" I thought we were the better side first half, looked lively in attack just couldn't find the accuracy and/or power in the shooting. Second half Villa were better, but we were still hitting them on the break. I think nobody could've complained if it had ended in a draw, but considering how many one and two goal leads we've squandered this season, grabbing the win at the end shows resilience and an improvement in the team's confidence. Three wins in a row now in the league, let's see if we can build on this and end the season strongly.

Horrible performance.
Ten Hag is just a bad manager.
I really dont care if we win or loose anymore.

Martinez and Shaw out and we are back to panic mode defensivly.

Shaw is the one player we cant miss. I shudder to think what ETH will do with him missing he already messed up by picking Lindelof. Is Malacia ready yet ? why did we send Alvaro Fernandez & Sam Murray on loan? given our lack of depth at LB?

Big big win. Good to have rub of the luck on our side and get that massive 3 points. A weeks break and hoping Shaw is back for that. Not going to get bogged down on performance and celebrate the 3 points for now

We now have a run of decent results, when can we get a run of decent performances?

Just relieved we finally won away to a good side. Been a ridiculous run to go over 18 months without a win against a top 9 side. Now just gotta push on.

Really hope Shaw's injury isn't anything big and he's fine for next week.
Ten Hag said he was taken off as a precaution

Smash and grab but you need those every here and there to be successful - loved it.

Tactically thought we had nothing in the midfield today while in possession - couldn’t get Mainoo on the ball when playing out from the back. Both Bruno and Casemiro immediately looking to play over the top every possession and their keeper handled that easily after the first 30 minutes.

Someone needs to make a meme of that celebration of luiz. Wanker!
Wanker of the highest order … how he reacted to Hojlung walking off the pitch plus the celebration - who did he want to impress with his puny chest?

Great result. Our defending from the front three I thought was really poor. Their defenders had too much time to pick easy passes into midfield and there were big gaps in our midfield which allowed them to get too much possession in the final third. Our decision making in our final third has to be better and our final ball a bit slicker, as much as Villa had half chances we, too, got in to some great positions - Rashford and Garnacho, less so, were a bit careless.

Really could have gone the other way. But it wasn't even the shots Villa didn't take, the amount of crosses we let them put into the box... Thankfully their crosses were really poor

Can't believe Emery brought Bailey off, they had us on the ropes. Wasn't that impressed with our passing and some of our defending left a bit to be desired too, but great to see us win through fighting spirit and a bit of extra physicality and quality in the end.

Well done to Lindelof too for making a decent fist of a very difficult job.

Needed to grind out a result against a good team and that’s exactly what we did. Feck the negativity, feck Douglas Luiz.

Dalot is great, Hojlund is gonna be immense in a few years. Credit to ten Hag for seeing McSauce as a great impact sub and not a starter. Keep that rolling bar cup games.

Good ebeeeening! :D:drool::wenger:

Like most games this season it was a mixed bag of good, bad and ugly but we got the win and it seems fairly obvious what problems we have to fix.

We desperately need some recovery pace at CB, Varane looked leggy, Watkins ran off him at will.

Casemiro retains some quality and nous but moves like a rusty oil tanker in treacle. The way we play, man to man with big spaces, we need legs in there.

Lindelof can't ever be selected at LB.

We were playing Villa who are a good side, you would think we were playing a League 2 side. We defended well and took the chances to win the game. They are now showing fight, earlier in the season that equaliser goes in and they would have lost, now they still know they can go on and win.

Really hope Shaw is not a long term injury. Thought Dalot, Maguire and Varane played well. We dug in there today but still miles behind the top 3 teams in the league. We are so poor in possession . We badly need to fix the midfield in the summer.

Delighted with the 3 points, especially as Shaw makes such a difference to us. Him and Martinez fit for the majority of the season and we would be far higher up the table and still in Europe.

Given where we have been in the last few months, that was a fantastic and massive win. Was not an amazing display, but I thought we defended well, attacked with more purpose than we have seen in recent months and turned our luck into a win. That's something we have not been doing much so im delighted with this kind of win. Sometimes you need to be scrappy and Villa are a top team this season, beaten only twice before this at home all season. Icing on cake for me was Hojlund scoring again.

Vital win. Puts us within striking distance of top 4/5, and arguably the toughest match outside of Arsenal, City and Liverpool we have left. Keep winning and sneak a result against one of them, and we could actually get into the top 4.

At this moment in time, from a footballing point of view we're not in a position to sell him given the goals he's given us this season. How many points has he won us this season and where would we be in the table without them?!

And yes, with the goals his scored and his ability to get on the end of chances, there'll be more than a few PL teams who'd be interested in him.
