Three man midfield.
Yep totally agree. Screaming out for it for a few weeks.

Ohhh that's more like it. I bashed the lads the last 2 games. Because as we all know, it just was simply not good enough. And while yesterday was not perfect it was a whole lot better and a huge step in the right direction. Matic needs support in the engine room and while Pogba is a very talented player. He is not a holding midfielder or a traditional midfielder the likes of Scholes where he can slot in where ever is needed and be effective. His natural instinct is to push on, be creative and take a few risks to try and influence a chance/goal. He basically is a number 10 who plays deep.

Martial wants to be our number 9, its soooooooo obvious and he sees himself as the one to do the job. He sent a few messages yesterday and let's be honest with all due respect to Lukaku he could not score that type of goal(as regularly or as easily, be fair to him) as Martial did yesterday. It really showed the difference between him and Rash right now. Rash would have probably sought another touch and the chance might have been lost. The piledriver looked to be on the cards but instead Tony caught the keeper napping with the perfect finish and by the time Pickford adjusted the ball was over him. A real quality finish.
Rojo and Jones looked like they did last season and were far more comfortable. I don't care if it was only Everton we needed this day in the office where the confidence can grow. We are still a little panicked in our clearances and finding a man out of defense but its something to build on and this pair has form in gelling into a solid partnership. Lindelof was ok thought Shaw was good, starting to get near where he needs to be. Still, a little something not quite there either speed of thought or positionally but we can work on that.

Herrera needs games, same as Shaw has to come up to pace mentally but Mondays game should see him play more and we were for more solid. Not sold on Mata but he could/should of scored again on Monday. Lingard keeps at it so we cant complain and that leaves us to the released Mr Pogba, MOTM, We can all see what he has in his locker and when given the time and space he will destroy teams.

A few things that I noticed and would like to highlight. If any of you watch the game back and notice how often Herrera made his way to the edge of the box or into space in an attacking capacity and was just not played in. Or the few times Lindelof was rampaging down an open flank with no marker and instead of the hollywood 30 yard+ ball from Pogs he gave a 6-10 yard pass to someone in space and kept the play moving forward and us on the ball. Yes these are only little improvements but they are the stepping stones to greater things.
It wont always be Herrera in that space it could be someone more clinical and effective in scoring. Better sides will spot and be ready to cut out them high risk hollywood balls. You have to earn the right to play them by causing enough damage inside and making teams tuck in. Thus the Herrera arriving on the edge on the box being important. Hopefuly it will be Herrera/Shaw on the ball and the likes of Pogs Lingard or Mata in position to shoot.

Much improved but its only a start. Need to build on it. Much happier!

Seems like ages ago Martial had the world at his feet after his season at United all before even turning 21. This was what two years ago? Easy to forget what a talent he is.

Matic is playing well. The problem we have is that we both expect and need our better players to almost carry the team at times. With the exception of Carrick who offers so much to the team and club, Matic and Pogba are a class above any other centre midfielders we have. Yet due to the lack of consistency and effectiveness of our 'attacking players'.. we need Pogs and Matic to provide so much, every game. I am sure Matic could benefit from a rest... but who comes in ? Fellani?

You ask what about Matic... what about Herrera? The guy plays like a robot. What has happened to the positive, driving force of a player we saw last season?
Herrera was decent, actually it was his first decent game of the season. My cousin is a Liverpool fan and while watching the game, he remarked that seeing Pogba and Herrera play together reminded him of Coutinho and Henderson - one obviously world class, and the other swinging between average to mediocre. We certainly need a better midfielder to play along with Pogba and Matic, and perhaps even in a 2 man midfield with either one of them (2 midfielders then).

Pogba too needs to learn to adapt. If he is truly world class, he can't shoehorn himself into playing well in just one type of formation (3 man midfield). He has to learn to do just as well in a 2 man midfield too, and to be honest, he did have very good games in a 4-2-3-1 during the early stage of the season.

Think 4231 works if we play higher up the pitch. Problem is our default is to play not as aggressively as other pressing teams so Pogba plays quite a ways back, and thus have a long distance to come forward.

I quite like Herrera but he has been a disappointment this year. Plays like he is in fear of being dropped. He will never been the CM we all want him to be but he is a very good backup and rotation player to Pogba and Matic. Hopefully we can replace Carrick with quality and go with a very strong midfield quartet. Whoever replaces Fellaini (in my opinion only) will largely be equal or an upgrade.

Absolument!!!

Someone else remarked here if that was couts salad or kdb who scored that goal. We'd have seen reams of papers devoted to it. But we haven't and we've not even started on Lingards finish and what a goal that was. We are being groomed to forget what we do good and to highlight our flaws.

If you could believe it, Romero Shaw Martial Mata Darmian Herrera Blind Young* Rojo Mkhi Fellaini and of course DDG, all want to leave. That's 12 players who are mostly getting games It's not like they have never played. You'd nearly think the club was being relegated and not second in the league if you were to believe this.
* rumours have cooled of late.
