Potential De Gea replacements

Has to be Oblak. He'll be costly for sure, we will probably have to pay the 100 million euro release clause but if we can get 50-60 mill for DDG, we can get him for net of 25-30 mill which will be great for the club IMO
I wonder why Oblak or another Atletico player would like to leave them to come here.

Oblak: The Premier League is attractive – I can see myself there

"The Premier League is interesting. It’s attractive and at some stage I may want to be part of that competition. I can see myself there, but I don’t know when – maybe next year, in two years, five or 10.”

Also we finished second in the PL last season and are still in the Champions League, we are not utter garbage like many of our fans think

Obviously Oblak should be the main target if we sell De Gea. But The De Gea of this season wouldn't be THAT hard to replace. We obviously can't replace De Gea of the last 3 or 4 seasons directly. So I say we go for a young goalkeeper with potential and maybe either use Romero as the number 1 while the young goalkeeper beds in or bring in a Van De Saar like goalie for a few years and have Henderson be his back up.

Without including the usual suspects (Oblak, Lloris etc)the following could be strong options in future:

1: Alessio Cragno (Calgiari)
2: Andre Onana (Ajax)
3: Walter Benítez (Nice)
4: Emil Audero (Juventus)
5: Alban Lafont (Fiorentina)

The last two are exceptionally young and would need time, but I think all 5 are either at the standard required or will get there.

Agree. But then again a lot on here saying quite often "Throw the money at them" in almost every transfer rumor thread...and later a lot of them are saying "fecking mercenaries".
We don't compete for major trophies anymore (unfortunateley) so we have to overpay for every semi decent player. "That's a facht!". Sad but true. We have to make some smart business (better scouting network maybe) and stop "throw the money" the way we do.

What about Donnarumma? Is he good or just hyped because he's young?

He is very good. Needs to improve his distribution and reading of attacking situations but is the next best thing in terms of goalkeepers.

Most people have it right here. Oblak is the one replacement who wouldn't be a significant downgrade on De Gea.

Don't like Oblak. Not seen him anywhere near enough to make an informed judgement on his goalkeeping ability, but after seeing his pathetic attempt at saving those penalties against Real during a Champions League Final a few years back I just see him as a bit slow.

Where will the overrating of average footballers at this club end? It would be a borderline embarrassment to replace De Gea with Romero. Yes, De Gea should be sold if he intends to run down his contract, but the replacement has got to be someone within the same tier as DDG.

No way should we either play Romero or buy Courtois. Two appalling decisions right there. If we know De Gea is leaving imminently, we try to buy Oblak. If we can't get him we go for whoever the highest rated young keeper is. This time look for one with good distribution as football is clearly moving in this direction. The good thing is that we would be one of the only top clubs actually looking for a keeper so we would be able to choose from a lot of young talents.

We shouldn’t be taking a risk with inexperienced youngsters like Henderson or Lafont.

At 19, de Gea had already played in the UEFA cup final and had been Atlético’s first choice for 2 seasons.

He’ll cost £100m to replace so if his wages are a sticking point that is really silly.

If he goes to Real Madrid, we should do a deal for Courtois.

feck Courtois. I'm done with fecking mercenaries like di Maria, Sanchez or Courtois.

A United player should have technical ability + mentality.

These guys have technical ability and cuntishness in abundance. Ever wonder why Courtois is hated by Atletico, Chelsea and Real Madrid fans? Snake.

Btw, you guys are missing the point if you think he's only going to Real Madrid.

I mean PSG has Buffon 41 and Juventus has Sczxhshdsdhsdfwhn (former Arsenal) starting between the sticks. Either of those teams would be willing and able to offer ridiculous wages to De Gea on a free.

He has saved a third of the penalties he's faced in his career, which is actually a great record, and better than all of the following:

Courtois - 15%
Ederson - 16%
Lloris - 19%
De Gea - 22%
Ter Stegen - 26%
Neuer - 32%

Oblak has the same weaknesses as De Gea. Tremendous shot stopper, but average in kicking, commanding of the area and coming off the line.

Shame that Handanovic is 35 already. Excellent, very experienced all-round goalkeeper.

As can we? A 5 year contract on £300k is £78m, which is still cheaper than his inferior replacement would be (plus their wages too).

If it’s about trophies, well, we can’t really offer any realistic chances of winning anything due to a complete mismanagement of the club over the years, but if money is the sticking point and the reason he moves then Woody hasn’t learnt a thing.

We'd have to pay a crazy fee, and I'm not sure he'd leave AC Milan for United.

+ Raiola. Would be the same hassle as with De Gea, just replace Real with Juve, PSG or whoever else Mino decides to whore him out to on a regular basis.
No thanks.

They’re all ‘mercenaries’ to start with. You think Lukaku or de Gea gave a feck about the club before they joined?

Get them in and make them want to fight for the club.

Courtois is toxic - I mean don't take my word for it, just rely on the opinion of Atleti, Chelsea and RM fans. Oh and he banged KDB's girlfriend, so he's not that liked by many Belgian fans either.

VDS was around that age, and is one of the best we've ever had.

1. There is no like for like replacement of DDG of the last few years.

2. I think Dave will sign.

3. If he doesn't we should stick with Romero next season, see how it goes and then next season consider Donnarumma or Oblak. Both of them will be in the final years of their contracts and clubs won't smell the "omg we just sold the best goalkeeper in the world" desperation any move this summer would stink of!

New keeper would have to be fully pepared for bombardement if United won't solve all defensive issues this summer which means certain risk of another season wasted on endless squad calibration.

Proposition which suggests departure of United's best player in last 4 years is bad on it's own. So far the perspective of having De Gea, Romero, Henderson and Joel is easily best option to have in many years.

Are there any keepers out there who will come out and claim a cross or actually catch a ball rather than Hollywood parries for the benefit of the camera?

If so, let’s sign them. The amount of penalty area scrambles we end up having to deal with because Dave is terrified of coming off his line is ridiculous. That allied to some ability to make a long accurate throw, springing some good counters, could be worth the points we lose from losing daves unmatchable shot stopping ability.

Upgrade the other 10 feckers so we don't have to be so reliant on #1.

That's where I'd start.

If De Gea stays I think he needs a kick up the arse and pressure - we should sign a young, hungry number 2 that pushes him and ultimately challenges him.

You avoid the problems we had after Schmeichel if you do what Arsenal have done and sign someone to push your number one.

Although that might be true, it wasn’t my point exactly. I don’t have a clue about Oblak’s stats I’ve just got a negative opinion of him based solely on that shambles of an effort vs Real. The guy looked like he couldn’t be arsed. Plus, that’s the only time I’ve really noticed him.

On a side note, surprised De Gea’s got 22%. Seems to never save a pen.

People who want Romero to be our first choice keeper is the same people who thought Anders Lindegaard was better than De Gea.

Lindegaard was always good whenever he played for United. It's easy now to look back at his post-United career and say he was never really up to it.

Romero has been good whenever he's played. Maybe he's made the odd mistake, I don't remember any specifically, but what keeper hasn't, De Gea included.

Romero hasn't let us down, we even won the Europa League with him. He deserves a chance, and I would think that if he didn't get that chance he would rightly leave too, losing both De Gea and Romero at the same time. Suspect Henderson would also go. Just so we can have a fancy new name instead.

He saved a few at Atletico and in his early United career (RVP, Lukaku and some other Everton player I can't recall)
