The Caf's Roy Keane.
Shouldn't bother with this unless the rest of Europe will.
It seems awkward to me that the window is still open 3 weeks after the season has begun, but by closing the EPL window on the eve of the new season, this gives an advantage to European clubs.as of now it'd leave teams like Arsenal and Liverpool under the genuine issue of losing the likes of Coutinho or Alexis to teams like Barcelona or PSG for the next three weeks with no way of improving their own squads/using those funds.
Not sure why any of those are a bad thing tbhSo more pressure on English teams to complete a deal resulting in them paying even more.
This is a dumb move and makes me worried about the lack of guile among football fecision makers.
1)Just a few scenarios, Neymar moves to PSG but window closed in England means players available from PSG are not available to English teams. Well done geniuses.
2)Real sign Mbappe and willing to sell Bale...oh shoot no English team can get him so only Bayern are in the market for him.
3)Aurier's case is thrown out but English window closed so he ends up at AC
4)United and Monaco interested in Perisic, he wastes time on a decision and United can't sign him after window closed, price drops for Monaco to sign him.
It is like David Moyes is running the premier league.
Plus things will change in the European market and we will be powerless to act around them.
Say Real Madrid had signed Mbappe and Bale had become available... we would have been powerless to move in while our Champions League competitors could.
What I can see happening is English teams making it clear to clubs and agents that they will not do any business once their window is closed.Risky when the foreign teams can then pick off our players and cannot replace them.
Not sure a World Cup year was the best time to be shutting the window early. It is always difficult anyway and transfer can seriously drag. I hope we have already sorted some of our business out, otherwise the clubs might have hamstrung themselves this time. What I can see happening is English teams making it clear to clubs and agents that they will not do any business once their window is closed.
They will, but feck them and their yellow ties.Ruined Sky's big day closing it at 5 o'clock. They will be secretly miffed.
The leagues don't all start on the same weekend. Maybe they need to come to some arrangement so this can happen?Apparently UEFA are also discussing to close the trnasfer window before the season starts.
I think it would be end of July. The leagues don't all start on the same weekend. Maybe they need to come to some arrangement so this can happen?
But the move means Premier League clubs will not be able to sign or sell players when their season is under way, while other European leagues will continue to allow such movement until 31 August.
As I mentioned, next year is a World Cup year, so will give clubs about a week if it was the end of July. Players don't often move before as their value could rocket if they have a good tournament. International teams are not keen on their players dealing with transfer while trying to build up to such a big event. Could be awkward.I think it would be end of July.
Exactly. This isn't going to achieve anything if the other leagues across Europe don't do it too.
I agree with that. This would have been good if it was either uniform among all leagues in Europe OR if you're shutting the window, you shut everything. The combo of it being only the PL and being able to sell players until 31st of August, seems like a mess waiting to happen.
Always thought the window should just open after the final day of the season and close one week before the season starts.
