Why not ?Don't think he's eligible.
Top 20 Artists/bands, not medical personel please.Dr Dre 20-1 point
Artist or band have to have an album released, so, I guess that makes all the classical composers ineligible.
And way too much ABBA.Not enough Tom Waits so far.
Stop slagging ABBA. They're legends. And way too much ABBA.
They're a dark mirror for the soul.Stop slagging ABBA. They're legends.
The thing with the Arctic Monkeys is that they are the beacon of light for Rock/Indie fans amongst today's music.Arctic Monkeys always seemed pretty middle of the road to me. Wouldn't have thought anything they'd done thus far had been enough to exclaim them superior to some of the greats.
If it's about people's favourites then it makes sense to me. If you're a certain age then Arctic Monkeys are one of the big bands of your generation. I was around sixteen when their first album came out and, as Flamingo said, they were a bit of a beacon of light.Arctic Monkeys always seemed pretty middle of the road to me. Wouldn't have thought anything they'd done thus far had been enough to exclaim them superior to some of the greats.

Spoon are a better meat and potatoes rock band than AM but don't have the rabid British music press behind them.Vote for who you want feck what all the snobs think
Considering putting Eminem in here. Technically he's a brilliant rapper, and I loved a lot of his stuff til about 2002, but I don't think I've liked a new song of his in the past decade. The Beatles - 1 - 15 Points

This list is more my personal favourites as opposed to artists I would objectively consider the best (although The Beatles would top both lists). Coldplay would be in there if the rest of their back catalog were as good as A Rush Of Blood To The Head and Viva La Vida. Same goes for Lupe Fiasco with Food & Liquor and The Cool. Bon Iver, Chvrches, Frank Ocean, and Lorde have a good chance of being in my future list if the quality of their material doesn't drop throughout their career.
Cafe is generally pretty "boring" in its taste. You won't get bad things in top 50, but plenty of incurious and unimaginative picks. Guess the same thing would happen on plenty of non-music related sites doing their polls. This is going to be the most controversial poll to ever exist on the Cafe.
It's all about taste at the end of the day. There is no right or wrong answer.
From my perspective, I am fabulously offended that The Arctic Monkeys look like they are going to be in the top 10 or 8.
But yet, Jimi Hendrix and Rory Gallagher, arguably the two best guitarists that ever existed are no where even near the top 50 or 60.....But Joy Division are.
Madness....And Michael Jackson will be nowhere near the top 10!!
I half expected the Stone Roses to be number one on here
But what is an unimaginative pick? I'm guessing rating the Beatles #1 would be, but for me (and millions of others,) it's the opinion we have. I don't see the point in making obscure choices just to be imaginative. All that being said, it's really hard to make this list. I had to omit Scott Walker, Nick Cave, Tindersticks, The Cars, The Jam and The Smiths. That wasn't easy to do.Cafe is generally pretty "boring" in its taste. Sadly couldn't find a way to get Alison Brie onto this list
Yeah, Duffy fecked it all up by saying they had to have released a full album to qualify
