Ole takes Reds coaching role

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took temporary charge of United’s reserves side in Lisbon on Wednesday morning, and it marks the former Reds striker’s first steps into the coaching side of the game.

He won’t be taking up the Reserves role full-time, but Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that the Norwegian has joined the club’s coaching staff.

The 34-year-old has not yet been given an official job title, but he is to work closely with technical skills development coach Rene Meulensteen, with particular emphasis on coaching strikers throughout the club's ranks.

Sir Alex told ManUtd.com: “This is an ideal trip for Ole to come along and get involved with the coaching side of the game.”

Ole led the warm up and took charge of a strong reserves team including Tom Heaton, Dong Fangzhuo, Lee Martin, and Darron Gibson against a Sporting Lisbon team made up of first- and second-year Academy scholars.

Let Rooney be Rooney
I playing these European youth sides going to happen frequently? Seems like a clever idea to fit in a friendly with each away day.

I doubt players like Gibson and Martin would be overdoing things when there is a (small) chance they could get some minutes in the main game.

Dong and Lee Martin scoring for us.
1-4 and 2-5.
Dong, Barnes and Campbell were all through on goal without scoring in the first 15 mins. They score a great goal and the game becomes even. And they score 3 more goals!
Strange game.

Ruud ftw
from left to right in the red shirts (some degree of guesswork here as blowing up it any significant amount is pretty hard): Adam Ecks, Hewson, Richie Ecks, Heaton (in the blue keepers top), Chester (front row), Gibson (back row, by process of elimination), Campbell, Barnes, Lee, Martin, Dong. looks like Brandy and maybe Welbeck in the training gear crouched in the front row. other United players in training gear behind Kieran Lee and behind/to the left of Dong, but they're impossible to make out. same goes for someone on the very far right, back row (might well be Ole/Rene).

basically confirms the starting lineup posted above, but not a whole lot of use in determining the subs bar the two named.
