Mats Daehli is a gorgeous player, full of little dinks, jinks and flicks, he was the one dictating the tempo when United had it. Worked back very hard as well. Janujaz was good, some driving runs, drifted out of it in the middle third but came back into it towards the end. Josh King did well up front, held it up well, a tad isolated but came more into it when Barmby came on and played off him. Sutherland made a couple of brilliant saves towards the end. United looked very vulnerable on crosses, but important to remember it was teenagers against men, so judging it based on that. Agnaldo did quite well off the bench, Gladstony was quiet, couple of nice touches.

M. Drayton 2 United XI 6

Warren Joyce’s side resumed their pre-season build-up, following last month’s two-match excursion to the Republic of Ireland, with this useful run-out against Market Drayton Town at Greenfields.

There had been heavy rain in the area during late afternoon, but that gave way to more favourable weather just before kick-off and the conditions were near perfect as the game began. United started brightly and should have gone ahead as early as the second minute when Joshua King was clear through on goal, but keeper Matty Cohan dived bravely to take the ball from the striker’s feet.

The Reds eventually moved into the lead, in the 14th minute, when Ryan Tunnicliffe forced the ball home despite Cohan’s close attention. The game then entered a spell where United looked capable of scoring each time they attacked, but wayward shooting and good goalkeeping kept the tally under control.

Bebe, who had spurned three or four decent-looking chances earlier in the half, finally found the net with a firm header, from King’s right wing cross, in the 38th minute. Skipper Davide Petrucci made it 3-0, just before the half-time whistle, with a low drive which deflected off a Market Drayton defender before finding the net.

Reds goalkeeper Sam Johnstone was called into action several times. The home side tested him with many long-range efforts and was equal to their best attempts, most notably a spectacular diving save from Kyle Blake’s terrific free-kick just before the interval. Three minutes into the second half and Jesse Lingard drew warm and genuine applause from the home supporters with beautifully-struck shot which flew into the roof of the net.Craig Ryan gave the Market Drayton supporters a moment to cherish, in the 56th minute, when he fired home confidently from the penalty spot to give the Shropshire club a well-deserved mention on the scoresheet . Further goals from Lingard (60 minutes), following a Petrucci pass, and Federico Macheda 10 minutes later, with a shot on the turn, for United, and Tom Rogers (76) for Market Drayton, completed the scoring in what was a fine evening’s entertainment from this hastily-arranged friendly match.

Forest Green 2 Utd XI 2

A Manchester United XI were pegged back by a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw with Forest Green Rovers.

This pre-season friendly was staged in support of ‘Sustainability in Sport’, the organisation which puts green issues at the centre of sport. Co-founders are Gary Neville, United’s former skipper and current club ambassador, and Dale Vince, Forest Green Rovers’ chairman and staunch ‘green’ advocate.

Both Neville, who famously drives a petrol/electricity hybrid car, and Vince, who has turned Forest Green’s New Lawn Stadium into the first ‘no meat’ vegan football ground in the country, were presented to the teams ahead of the kick-off. The pair were also interviewed during the interval to explain the reasons why they got together to launch the organisation which means so much to them both.

On the beautifully-manicured New Lawn pitch, both teams gave the sun-bathed crowd an entertaining afternoon’s football at one of the country’s most picturesque enclosures. United went in at the break leading 1-0 courtesy of Joshua King’s 32nd minute header from Larnell Cole's cross from the right. The Reds' Norwegian-born striker was left almost totally unattended and took maximum benefit to pick his spot and put United into the lead.

Forest Green replied two minutes into the second half when United’s defence hesitated to allow Yan Klukowski to grab the equaliser. Both goalkeepers, United’s Sam Johnstone and Sam Russell, between the Forest Green sticks, were in eye-catching form, pulling of a string of brave and spectacular saves.

Brazilian youngster Agnaldo had the home crowd purring in appreciation after displaying a couple of genuine examples of football played with a true Samba influence. And he crowned an impressive few minutes when, in the 73rd minute, he volleyed home Frederic Veseli’s pass to restore United’s lead.

The home side claimed a late leveller, in the second minute of added time when James Norwood set-up Klukowski to score from close range.

Finished 1-1. CA equalized in 88th minute.

Good to see such a young team out, all the promoted youth players from last year, bar Blackett, as well as Barmby(who got his first reserve goal!) and Januzaj. Add them to the regulars and it makes for a really talented u21 side. I hope Pearson and Rothwell get some game time in the reserves this season also.
