How much sadness and heartache can be thrown Rio's way? Really feel for him. RIP Rio's mum, hope he and his family get through this. United legend.

Can't (and don't want to) imagine how difficult it must be to lose both your wife and mother within the space of a few years. Must be absolutely horrible to try and cope with. Wish him all the best.

Terrible news, he can't seem to get a break.

I lost both my parents at an early age (with my mum losing her battle to cancer as well), and the only positive thing from this is that he was able to be with her, her last moments in life and probably mentally prepare for this - even though it's impossible to imagine a life without your mother.

My thoughts are with him and his family.

After recently viewing the Rio documentary on BBC, this news really saddens me.

Thought to Rio, Anton and all the family.

Awful news, especially as she would have taken on a bigger role for him since his wife passed. Such poor luck.

That's genuinely terrible news. 2 family members in such a short period of time? Just heartbreaking.

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
RIP

Poor Rio, must bring it all back with what he went through with his wife...

He can hopefully take solace in the fact that he's a great Dad and will always be loved and supported by so many Utd fans.
