Want to dislike him but he just answers the questions directly and openly and his English is pretty much perfect these days. We need more of these types of interview with guys like Ancelotti, Bielsa in fact I’d watch all the PL managers and those abroad as well.

I laughed when he referred to Hodgson as ‘the Crystal Palace manager’ and then, feck me, he’s intense in that clip with kimmich.

I miss scratchy head, pressured Pep.
He remembered Carlo and Roy as the calm presence on the touchline.
I wish he mentioned Ole instead... :D

13.12 is the key for me. This is why this guy is winner. That's the SAF mentality what's next, go again. Feck me makes you sad when you reflect how we ended up.

Get the feeling with Guardiola he could live in England 30 years and it wouldn't touch him at all. He's like some offshore super manager machine that creates win profit wherever he goes. Don't get that vibe with Klopp whose English is fantastic and is someone whose presence comes across as invested in where he lives.

I’ve been Palace quite a few times in recent pre pandemic years and Hodgson genuinely seems to be dozing off on the bench most games so not surprised he was mentioned.

Nice interview but it's easy right now. Unless hes got perfect conditions the angry, distracted Pep returns. He frequently struggles under pressure.

Hes calm and collected now because the pressure is off. The story has all been about our resurgence and Liverpool's collapse. City have gone largely ignored and been allowed to build this run they're on in relative peace. Once the focus turns back to them let's see how he copes.

It was interesting when he said how he's not judged on results at City like he was at Barcelona and Bayern. He wouldn't get that 'luxury' at United, Manchester United managers are scrutinised and criticised relentlessly.

This interview does highlight the gulf in class between him and Ole, but Ole has never confessed to be that sort of tactical manager, he likes to delegate. Unfortunately I don't think he's brought in the right coaching team to delegate to.

For those interested, Rio did a similar interview with Thomas Tuchel. Another manager with insightful and frank opinions on the game. The important of manager/coach specialist is becoming more and more imperative these days.

Rio is going to be a great interviewer, I thoroughly enjoyed the vid.

I personally think that we're very lucky to have Pep as a manager in the PL, even if it means that MCFC stomping any kind of opposition at the moment. It's one thing to buy expensive star players, it's another to make them gel in and work as a unit while playing fantastic football. Guardiola definitely left his footprint on the league and football in general and will be talked about in the decades to come. Just enjoy the show, it won't last.

The best coach in the world and it's a shame he's at City. Transforming City's season after their horrid start and after a lot of people figured that their run was over was quite something. 22 consecutive wins in all competitions is just stunning.

The way he talks about united, think he would have come here if we were competent. Such a feck up.
Too hard a challenge for Pep.
He wouldn't have picked up Aguero, Kompany, Sterling, De Bruyne, D Silva as well as having 50m to lash on numerous defenders.

Bet with the people he has working round him we wouldn't have wasted the money we have spent.

Even putting aside all the preparation City did to get him, let’s assume for a minute United had done similar preparations (similar money, similar squad quality already available, ex Barca people, etc.) I actually believe he would still have gone to City. It was a more unique challenge for him.
If he is not already City’s most successful manager ever then he will be soon (I believe he already is).
With us no manager no matter how good is ever going to overtake SAF as our most successful manager ever.

That's a key point.
He'd have merely been adding a small footnote into our history, whereas with City, he'll go down as their best manager by a mile.

Let's not make out he's some sort of underdog/challenge guy though, he's had either the huge dominance, best squad, or richest club everywhere he's been.

Depends how you look at it. He’d have also been the manager to drag united into post Ferguson era. Not to mention his brand of football at united would have been well received. Was he a footnote into Bayern’s history? I think they would have him back with red carpet frankly.

Reality is a manager like pep will never end up at a “west ham“ so he’d always have deep pockets and squad strength in his favour. But it’s also simplistic to say Ole or anyone else can do what he does simply with deep pockets and a good squad. It still takes effort to get them to buy into your ideas, that’s assuming you have ideas and philosophy. I am not sure what oles philosophy is.

The greatest coach of this era. His City team is the most dominant team I have seen in the prem by a distance.

You should make a thread for that, it's another great one.

And that is the reason why City won't dominate long-term. There's almost no chance of us replacing Pep with anyone even close to his level.

Well as long as you don't appoint Moyes or Moyes 2.0 I can't see City falling off the pace, unfortunately.

He is here to stay and is just in his comfort zone. No reason why he will leave any time soon.

What? Win like he always has. Let's be honest he is the greatest manager after fergie won everywhere he has gone. The guy has nothing to prove.

I disagree.

He is the kind of dude I can see walking away soon. I guess winning CL is the holy grail but I cannot see him staying at city so he can win a few more league titles. He will probably end up in Italy at some point, maybe even Roma.

Ah Pep. My favorite manager in world football for almost a decade. It really does pain me to see him at City when I wanted him to manage us more than anyone else after SAF left.

People started saying this four, five months into his first season but since that he signed two extensions. He clearly likes it a lot there. His family moved back to Spain but Pep signed new contract until '23 anyway and I think it's not his last.

Of course he likes it in England. There is more love for the game, more respect generally for managers and also less politics ala Barca. But he doesn't seem the "building dynasty" type. He will eventually leave, sooner than later.

Hes only ever been where he can dominate. He had brief flirtations with not having the best squad in the league and it didnt go too well, and the happy friendly Pep was nowhere to he seen. He spent an absolute fortune rectifying it and now hes happy again.
