I'm sorry to hear Robert Fisk has passed away.

Although I rarely, if ever, agreed with Fisk, I always read his articles and have two or three of his books.

I always enjoyed his reports and articles. One of the few independent journalists who is not afraid to go against various government narratives. RIP Robert Fisk.

He became a verb. Won't be long before his obits are refuted line by line.

I’ve mocked his more recent journalism occasionally on here. Pity the Nation is a great book though.

Hugh Pope wrote a bit more on that episode a few years back -https://www.google.ie/amp/s/hughpope.com/2011/11/20/i-dont-read-hugh-pope-robert-fisk/amp/

He undoubtedly embellished his reporting. There’s a bit in Pity the Nation where he describes taking shelter at the side of a Beirut street during an outbreak of gunfire or shelling, and he finds himself side by side with an IRA guy who Fisk claimed was in Lebanon training with one of the Palestinian factions who he just happened to have met and interviewed in Northern Ireland a few years before. Not impossible of course, but just too convenient to be believed.
