Set of players we can buy for €120m - would you still want Pogba?

Real, City, PSG are a few big names who don't seem to be in the running for Pogba at this price.

Can we name a set of players we can get for €120m and justify Pogba against that?

Draxler, Kante, Payet can all be bought under this budget. A ball winning midfield engine, advanced midfielder that can play central or wide, and an actual winger to compliment Martial. It would give us different options in unlocking a defence.

I would rather buy these 3 than Pogba alone. What other concoction of players would you buy that would be better than buying Pogba? Or, do you think Pogba alone is the best way to spend €120m?

Note: I know money is no object to Man Utd, and we pay dividends to the Glazers that makes this sum look normal. Its not a question about affordability though, its just rational thought, where would you spend €120m? If all on Pogba then fair enough, but I'd like to pick your brain on why.

It's not my money, but I'd rather spend it on Kante and a deep midfielder to partner him.

Kante and Kroos for example, wouldn't cost anywhere near that.

I'm pleased we're spending our money on the very best players, rather than more quantity but less quality. We've bought 5 or 6 players in each of the last 2 summer windows, spent even more money than this and gotten nowhere. I'm happy personally.

We could easily get Pogba, and those other players mentioned, if Jose wanted.
Woody might say there is a blank cheque to please fans and shareholders, but I think every manager has an upper limit on what he can spend.

We have no "budget". We could spend another €120m on those 3 you mentioned without sweat. We could spend €120m per summer for the next 5 years and still have no financial worries. Stop worrying about the Glazers' money. Mourinho knows what he is doing.

I don't believe that we have "no budget".

One world class player is worth more than three very good players. If it is possible to get Pogba it's a no brainer really. We have the money to spend so spend it on the team. Why is everyone obsessed with the price? Imagine attack with Martial, Ibracadabra, Mkhitaryan and Pogba behind them. Just picture it. Now stop caring about the price Ed an Jose would know if it is worth the risk.

We don't need 2-3 more top quality players, our squad would be too stacked.

Buying Pogba for £100million is a total statement to everybody else and it could elevate us to Bayern/Barca/Madrid level.

Personaly,

If all players are available I would prefer Verratti and Griezmann for that kind of money, how ever as it looks like those 2 are not available then why spend money on lesser players such as those mentioned in the OP. So yes if it is Pogba v good but not great (bunch of) players, I would take Pogba every time.

What does that even mean? What exactly do we achieve by making that statement? That we are ready to overpay for every player in the world?

I just feel Martial Ibra Mkhitaryan and Payet behind doesn't look much worse at all. Kante provides much needed cover in the midfield role incase Schneiderlin is injured/off form (Mourinho struggled with this when Matic didn't perform or was suspended/injured). Not to forget Draxler provides an alternative type of threat to Mkhitaryan should Jose need a plan B. or injruies occur.

As it stands, if one of Mkhitaryan or Martial get injured, the step in would be out of position or far lower quality. At least Draxler/Payet provide this too.

Obviously Jose has a budget, but he is not stupid. If he is after Paul, that means he sees him as the best addition in midfield. Judging by the rumors, (Matuidi, Gomes) I think he is looking for a Lampard type midfielder to play in a midfield of three.

I don't agree. Still 1 or maybe 2 top defenders (CB) away from that level.

Neither Draxler nor Payet would come here to play "in case someone gets injured".

Kante, Greizmann, as good defensive cover as possible with the change.

Kante is a no-brainer at the quoted prices and should be bought regardless of Pogba.

I'd still love to see Pogba here though

No. That United are back on their way to being the best by buying the best, most exciting young CM in the world.
I think we did that by signing one of the best managers in the world anyway.

Smalling at times last season was unplayable in a team that was completely low on confidence and shaky at the back, likewise (when not crocked) Jones has shown his quality.

I'd rather our CB options than Madrid or Barcelona's, IMO.

Pogba is one of the top 5 midfield players in the world and is still very young at 23 I'd much rather have Pogba than a few others, players like him can make a team into another level.

Honestly think Schneiderlin can be a very good holding player for us and it would be a waste selling him.

We'd never persuade PSG or Atletico to sell unless we offered Pogba-esque money imo. 60m wouldn't get either.
My point exactly, As I did state "that if all players are available", I was stating that for me it is either Pogba or players that are as equally good as Pogba. Rather than a bunch of lesser players in terms of quality.

Smalling is good, but he can't lead/organize the defense well.

Well yeah, if everyone's available lets sign Neymar, Bale and Godin while we're at it. £25m and a bag of quavers should do it.

Smalling would be on the bench at both Madrid and Barcelona.

I'm saying they would provide depth, but of course they will have roles to play in the first XI too. There are many games this year and injuries will happen (the curse of United injuries trumps Jose's proud record of having little injuries imho).

Like I said in another thread a second ago, Pogba turns a potential title winning side into an era dominating side; he's that sort of player.
He's not that good. One of the best midfielders in the world, but he doesn't single handedly turn a team into an 'era dominating' side. That would be a Bale/Neymar/Suarez/Ronaldo.

I agree with those people thinking that we don't need to sign 2-3 more players. I've thought for a season now our squad is the most underrated in the league and that with a proper manager and system a lot of those players would add 10% to their games. Players like Schniderlin would become the best in their positions in the league and I still beleive that with Mounrinho that is going to happen. What we have been missing, is that real star quality to change a game in a moment. Pogba is a game changer, he can produce a run, shot, pass than in an instance can creat a goal and that's invaluable. He's worth every penny of that £100 and I'd probably pay £200 of it meant we could get him. The time is right to make the statement, man Utd are not fecking around any longer and are about to be back in business.

He went by the name of Wayne Rooney
We will have turnover exceeding £500m this year, and the operating costs will not be more than £300m. We can easily spend £200m without breaking a sweat every season. Every pound out of that money that we do not spend will probably line the Glazers pocket. We should be the least worried about transfer fees right now because as high as they might sound, as a percentage of our revenue/profits, they are still very low.

Draxler cost Wolfsburg 36 mil Euro so don't expect him to come for cheaper. Draxler is as inconsistent as it gets. Don't see he get that consistence sorted moving to a new country with much higher expectation immediately. What the point buying for future again here when we have quite a bunch of young players who need game time and may also have potential to be good?

Kante. I rate him, but disagree with people elevate him into one of the best midfielders in the world. He is the most influential player for Leicester. Most consistent, best run of performance level the whole season. However, his shown ceiling is not as the top players we have seen in PL in the past. Does he have potential to grow further? I don't know and it's risky to even gamble getting him and hope for him to replicate his performance level last season. I rate him as Carzola level, different attribute and style. Would welcome him here, but is he the sort of player to be our corner stone for us? No.

West Ham is looking to spend money and aim high. It would take load shit of money to get him off West Ham. Considering Watford can decline 30+ million pound for the like of Deeney, how much would Payet cost? Payet will have no resale value, flop and we throw all the money away. There is no hope for him to reinvent himself at his age.

These 3 may cost more than Pogba and yet they doesn't not fit Mourinho's vision for his specialist.

I don't think it's as over the top as valuing Griezmann and Verrati at £50m each.

Verratti, hands down. And with the rest, a young, talented midfielder as well

This will be paid in installments, the 120m euro is likely with some clauses for winning the pl \ cl \ BPITW etc.

If a 18 year old Renato Sanches can command 80m Euros (also with clauses) then Pogba sure as hell can command 120m Euros.

That team on paper to be looks very solid (if this transfer can actually be pulled off)

A few people have said that the defence lets us down but I feel (based on Bailleys critics) that we have a young talented CB partnership.

Over the past few years, we set out to replace our aging squad. And that transition is looking complete.

The depth we have in talent is getting there now and I for one, am very excited.

Rooney is not playing midfield.
