This.I think Lindelof deserves a lot more respect. He didn't put a foot wrong and people still call for him to be dropped for Maguire.
You know our 80 million British defender has to come in as soon as he is fit so someone has to be sacrificed. Might as well start laying the ground work for why it should be lindelof.Everyone saying drop Lindelof, yet he was the one who organised that defence last night. He was excellent, and Tuanzebe is getting a lot of plaudits but more from the lack of expectation around him putting in a performance. He did well in his two big moments with Mbappe, but that gives its own rush versus a first teamer playing well. Lindelof is a lot quicker than Maguire and a good organiser. What wasn’t needed last night though was the ball playing centre half.
I think people are just highlighting that Tuanzebe and Lindelof complemented each other well against what is arguably the most potent forward line in world football. Maybe Tuanzebe would also be the right partner for Maguire.People need to stop being so reactionary. Maguire had a good season last year. Everyone can suffer bad form. Up until this weekend, this was true for the whole team. One excellent game where practically all of Ole's tactical decisions paid off, doesn't mean that Maguire ought to be benched.
You’re right Sassy Colin, Maguire so many mistakes in him and it’s not only speed related. As I said in the Match day thread, Lindelof plays better when he doesn't have to spend half his time covering for Maguire's inadequacies.
Yep..Unpopular opinion but i think Maguire is the weak link.
Lindelof will always be the whipping boy even when it’s clear to see Maguire has been a lot more questionable in defence.I think Lindelof deserves a lot more respect. He didn't put a foot wrong and people still call for him to be dropped for Maguire.
This is just factually wrong. The number of times Maguire bailed Lindelof out last year was ridiculous. He's a good defender but he just gets bullied at times.Lindelof will always be the whipping boy even when it’s clear to see Maguire has been a lot more questionable in defence.
Where’s you facts then? This is just factually wrong. The number of times Maguire bailed Lindelof out last year was ridiculous. He's a good defender but he just gets bullied at times.
It really wasn't. Lindelof isn't perfect but he's no way near as poor in his individual errors as Maguire is. He is the first defender to get blamed for a poor result and often the first name to be dropped from predicted starting XIs, despite Maguire being the poorer performing center back. This is just factually wrong. The number of times Maguire bailed Lindelof out last year was ridiculous. He's a good defender but he just gets bullied at times.
So it's Maguire and Tuanzebe + Lindelöf + Bailly until the latter three are going to be replaced by a better CB, but Maguire always plays?IF Tuanzebe can stay fit, rotation with Lindelöf and Bailly until we get a better CB, right now should be at the bench.
That's just nonsense, it sounds like you watch LadBible 5 second clips & play FIFA rather than watching the actual games. Probably the sort of person who retweeted that ridiculous "no look defending" meme they created about Maguire during the Sevilla game when in context he was the only defender actually doing his job.Where’s you facts then?
Maguire always out of position.
Far to slow
Caught chasing after the ball
Caught ball watching
Slow to react
Balls shot right through him
Typical red cafe response “oh you must be a FIFA player”. When they have no reply to you it’s pathetic. That's just nonsense, it sounds like you watch LadBible 5 second clips & play FIFA rather than watching the actual games. He stepped our defending up a level last season massively, him & AWB made a huge difference and Lindelof was comfortably the weak link between the two. He isn't perfect by any stretch but he is comfortably the best defender at the club & for some reason him having a couple of very poor games at the start of the season has been blown out of all proportion - what makes it even more baffling is he wasn't even our worst defender in those games.
I am not so sure, I think PSG would target Maguire on the ground as he is easy to beat for a god fast dribbler. Especially the last 25 minutes when we played with Pogba instead of Telles. It was a bit more our formation than individual players tonight (although none really put a wrong step forward).
This set up will be just as good with Maguire in it. We should definitely use it in the coming stretch of matches.
It's not a no-reply option at all, I just fail to see how anyone could have properly watched our games last season and decided Maguire was the weak link defensively - and then to have the audacity to claim I haven't watch him over the season is just comical. The difference he made to the defence was honestly night and day compared with the season before, your "out of position" comment is ridiculous as positionally he is so far ahead of Lindelof, Bailly etc - he has to be because he's not quick so makes up for it. From the first minute against Chelsea last season he was the one talking & organising the other defenders, anyone in the stadium could see he was going to be the obvious choice as captain as the season went on as the rest of our defenders are practically mutes. I don't even dislike Lindelof, he's a good defender and will go to a good club I imagine but as a pairing they just aren't going to work long-term & he's the one who has to drop out because Maguire is way too important to us back there.Typical red cafe response “oh you must be a FIFA player”. When they have no reply to you it’s pathetic.
And no I don’t play or retweet memes.
I could go back to near the start of the Maguire thread and read where I had my concerns about him, this isn’t based on three games it’s from watching him closely the entire season something you have failed to do.
Do we know that Axel is weak aerially? I do know he didn't come across as overly threatening, or an obvious target when we had corners, however, in a defensive sense I don't know we've seen anything to suggest an obvious weakness.I said it from last season, and IMO it would have happened but for injuries, but Axel and Maguire will be our first choice partnership at CB, fitness permitting.
Axel's strengths are in the areas where Maguire is weakest (recovery pace/acceleration and agility) and Maguire's strengths are in the areas where Axel is weakest (aerial duels). They are both fantastic ball players and have great anticipation and reading of the game.
All in all, they would make the perfect CB partnership, and my long-term hope is Mengi comes in and replaces Maguire in the long-term, as for me, he's THE complete CB prospect.

With regards to Mengi, I get the sense that he does look a bit short for a CB
This. No doubt Maguire was catastrophic the first three games, but so were everyone else and vs Newcastle he bossed it. Credit to Tuanzebe and Lindelof, they did really well last night, but concluding that we now should drop Maguire (who was our best CB last year) is knee jerk and then somePeople need to stop being so reactionary. How long or how many mistakes do you need from Lindelof, Bailly etc. to demonstrate the fact that they can't handle 6-foot striker? How many bad headers do you need to be replayed before you are convinced that Lindelof and Bailly are shitty in the air. That's not Maguire in his time at OT. He's been bullied plenty of times. I would not start him until the players who proved themselves today show otherwise.
