Surely this rule needs to be binned? Completely ridiculous that you should be banned for fouls across months IMO. If a ref hasn’t seen fit to send you off in a match then you shouldn’t be banned. The risk of being sent off is enough jeopardy for a player to carry within a match, but a player surely shouldn’t be concerned with punishment outside that particular match for just a yellow card.

This is especially so when the governing bodies do not review yellow cards, only reds. Many players are incorrectly booked. Casemiro has picked up 3 ridiculous bookings over the last month where it hasn’t even been a foul.

The old CL rules that robbed Keane and Scholes of their finest hour was particularly ridiculous.

Sure why not let players pick up a yellow card every game without any repercussions? May as well remove bans for red cards too, since that should only be in effect for that game only too.

I don't think they should have rescinded the accumulated yellow card rules for knockout games or finals either. That rule was fair, players knew where they stood before they went out on the pitch, they maybe had to temper their game which could have a balancing effect for some teams. If a player was one yellow away from a ban, you could target them knowing they'd be afraid to commit to tackles in case they got booked. If you got a yellow and missed a game, 90% of the time it was your own fault.

There should be reprocessions for multiple cards however the rate of yellow cards given has increased this season, as the margin is lower. I would suggest altering the rule to reflect this changing rate and increase it to suspensions for 7 yellows.

What about if you get 5 yellows and you're not allowed to start the game but you can be on the bench.

"but horseguy wouldn't they just he subbed on after 1 minute?"

Yes but you'd need to waste a sub if you want to do that.

It's so much easier to get a booking now compared to when this rule was introduced. Rule should remain but the threshold should be increased.

There are repercussions. If you get another, you are banned. Feck knows what you’re talking about in relation to red cards, but it’s certainly nothing I’ve said.

Slightly confused by this thread.

There's a date by which the amount of yellows you can rack up is extended. It's not an all season limit. Now that would be ridiculous to be 1 game for 5 yellows all season.

No other sport loves to suspends its athletes as much as football. It is especially moronic in WC and other similar tournaments. It made sense in the 90s when you actually had to make a dirty tackle for a yellow. Now it is just obsolete habit that should be changed.

It’s 5 yelllows within the first 19 games - 1 game suspension
10 yellows from g/w 20-32 - 2 game suspension.

seems reasonable to me

You’ve solved the confusion all by yourself it seems :)

If you get rid of accumulated yellow card bans, then a player can get one yellow card every game with no possibility of getting any kind of ban. If you follow that same logic you may as well remove 1 and 3 match bans for 2 yellows in the same game and red cards. Why should you miss the next game because you got sent off in the last one?

Incentives to not make silly or dangerous fouls are a good thing.
