I guess most of you by now should have known about the infamous curse of the charity/community shield. Bearing in mind tomorrow we will be taking part in it, anyone else is slightly bothered about the curse?

United have won the league and the shield in the past so no.

No. Whoever wins this will get a big psychological boost over the other team, which is important early on in the season.

I take the stance that if we win it we get a boost and one up on Chelsea...if we lose it...it's only a friendly and means nothing!

What 'infamous curse'?

generally speaking the side who wins the shield doesn't win the league the next season. fortunately we are consistently shit in it.

Ah right. We won it in 93 and 96 though and on the league. But the cup winner should do better in it as it's a one-off game. Or they should be more arsed about it - the ECWC/UEFA winner usually wins the Super Cup too.

It's not as if either time is putting out a fully fledged team, either.

Maybe they're putting out all they have, but there's still a lot of injuries on both teams.

Would have cared more about this game had some of the new boys been involved. Failing that if the likes of Neville and Saha feature then it will be meaningful.

As it happens, it seems neither will happen so I'm not too bothered. But, be prepared for a barage of abuse if we lose - judging by the sort of reaction I've seen to the Inter defeat.
