If you ever find yourself thinking "there are way too many of these experiment/hands-off threads in this forum", then this is not for you. Liking or understanding basketball is not required as long as you have the ability to recognize the relative values of numbers (such as trophies won or MVP awards).
I'm sure I'll do a big EU4 Experiment again this year, but in the meantime I wanted to do something rather simpler using the excellent BasketballGM browser game. In the actual game you take over an NBA team as a GM and run it, making signings and drafting players. As always, I'll use that as a base to run a purely hands-off game (yes, that means you don't get to actually play, but then neither do I so what are you complaining about).
Here's what I'm thinking:
I'll put anyone who wants into the game. Either all at once, or gradually through the draft (could be fun). If the latter, we'll start in maybe 1990 or 2000 or something, and then I'll sprinkle you in gradually. How many each draft class depends on how many sign up, and whether or not you guys think it would be fun, or if having to wait would be a chore. Anyone who retires can be reincarnated, so hopefully we'll always have someone showing up. I'll run it until we're all suitably bored, providing updates and what have you. I'm open to feedback (but never criticism).
Warning: there's a "potential" number, but no way to actually set a value for it. Whether you become a superstar or crash out of the league is entirely up to the game itself, and helped along by the player you create. For that reason you'll all start out as pretty decent rookies (if you don't allocate your points like a maniac). Also, I can't control the rating the game gives you based on your allocation of attributes, so don't complain if Solius or whoever has a 2 higher rating than you.
If it turns out nobody is interested I'll delete this thread and never admit it existed in the first place.
Here's what I need from everyone (either as you're signing up, or edited/added later. I won't be starting this right away, so no rush. Also I can and will add people while the game is running)
Country:
Mood Trait: decides what your motivations are, pick any combination of Fame, Loyalty, Money, Winning.
Appearance: use this link and copy the resulting string of code
Jersey number:
Position: Auto, Point Guard, Guard, Shooting Guard, Guard/Forward, Short Forward, Forward, Power Forward, Forward/Center, Center <- pick one
Height/weight in inches/lbs: optional and purely cosmetic
Ratings: you have a total of 725 points to allocate to the following attributes (1-100):
Edit: just to add some perspective, Shaq has a 75 height value, and Michael Jordan is a 44. So it doesn't really mean that less than 50 is low.
