Things in 2018 you’d get laughed at for saying would happen in football by 2028

The premier league won’t exist as is in its current format.

A European Superleague of sorts will of formed.

Someone will appear and be viewed as better than Messi/Ronaldo are.

Saudis will buy United and we will become a play thing for them. Manchester will become a city of Arab c*ck measuring between us and City on signings and wages.

Transfer market will be completely different as well - players will sign short term deals on massive wages and move on free transfer regularly. No one will be able to afford to sign top players regularly without billionaire owners.

Leicester City will win the Champions League shocking everyone once again. How would they get in CL again? By winning the Europa League the season before.

Manchester City will be relegated for some reason other than finishing bottom 3, then be promoted and win the league again.

Fulham will be relegated this season, be promoted instantly after, then finish the following season at top 4.

Eintracht Frankfurt will win the Bundesliga to break the Bayern/Dortmund duopoly.

Jose will manage Real Madrid for the second time and do the exact same thing he did with his second stint for Chelsea: Win the league then get sacked the season after languishing just above the relegation zone.

Liverpool will eventually win the league (even if they don't win it this season) at the price of being relegated the following season.

We will break the current transfer record to sign a highly rated defender. We will then shatter the transfer record again to sign Mbappe from PSG only for him to flop

OK, this is supposed to be things that are laughable, not things that have a serious possibility of happening.

That would be a different thread.

I'd more surprised if these didn't happen tbh.

There will be an Asian superstar, Griezmann level aka top 5-3 ish in the world. Been waiting since 2002 and Son is the closest so far. I think that Juventus will be knocked of the throne like United and Liverpool in the 90ies.

Someone other than Celtic or Rangers will win the Scottish Premiership

Scotland will finally qualify for a major tournament

Newcastle Utd will be the latest club to be taken over by a sugar daddy

The January transfer window will no longer exist

Their will be a managerial transfer window.

I can't stop laughing at some of the stuff in here. But I know in ten years I'll be eating my words.

Maybe not in the next 10 years, but i can certainly see a point where the game meets biology head on and in a similar way that Dolly the sheep was cloned in the 90's. The DNA of, say Messi will be used to create a clubs future player.
Maybe even combining DNA to make the ultimate players for the designed roles. For example DDG, merged with Ederson.
Superclubs will have there own secret labs where experiments take place to create such a thing.

Following on from the 2006-2016 thread.

What do you think will happen in 10 years time that will seem absurd now?
After the popping of the "Everything Bubble" and the inevitable end of fiat currency; all major corporations that were financed by debt will cease to exist. This will include sports franchises. To distract the people with bread and circuses, the governments will setup E-gaming cafes throughout towns and cities where people will be given hot gruel and also be able to join their local e-team. Structures, tiers and leagues will be reformed much like they are today (all virtual of course). The winners of the inaugural "World Football E-league" of the "Current Year" (using dates will be abolished) will be the City 586 "Blue Rocks" (Only inanimate objects are mascots, as not to offend anyone) of the South Eastern Quadrant. They will narrowly beat out the City 1732-5 "Hazel Roofs" from the North Quadrant by the score of 31-29. The Blue Rocks will a receive a 350 sunset supply of subsidized electricity. The losers will unfortunately, have to be sent to island 25-6. Poor bastards.

- Republic of Texas (Having seceded from the USA) winning the World Cup.
- An English manager will have won the Champions League.
- There will be a woman manager who'll win the men's World Cup.
- Greece having joined the Federal States of China winning the Asian Cup.
- Steven Gerrard leading us to Premier League glory as our manager. Still slips while lifting the trophy though. Assures everyone he was joking. No one is convinced.
- Frank Lampard will get relegated to the Championship with Chelsea. He'll be replaced by Mourinho, who after being questioned by journalists about why he got beaten 5 - 0 by Celtic in the opening league game of the season, will storm out of the press conference while holding out an open hand, saying "Do you know what this is? Five. That's five promotion battles that I have won, which is more than the other managers in the championship combined. Respect, Respect, Respect, Respect, Respect."

By 2038
ESports would actually have caught up and overtaken actual football in popularity due to its mass appeal, and it will have rendered real-life football obsolete.

We will start to seriously discuss the dangers of heading the ball and the first rule proposals, for football without headers, will be made.

The Qatar World Cup will be a resounding success.
For me that can never be the case when they estimate upwards of 4000 workers will die just to get ready for it. Should be boycott by everyone to be honest.

Games will be at night due to global warming

There will be openly gay footballers and an all gay team. Pogba will be the manager

Attendance will drop by 70 percent due to VR headsets which will eventually see the end of football.

Rangers and Celtic will join EPL and...get relegated

New smart clothing will be worn that both tracks all players stats and protects them from damage

There will be no refs or linesmen etc. It will be all AI

Why the feck are people predicting random stuff about the WC! There'll be just 2 of them from now till 2028. Stuff like Asian/African team winning the WC is definitely not happening in 2022, and unless some Golden generation emerges for any of these countries within next 2-3 years, it wouldn't be happening in 2026 as well

The European Super-League has 4 Chinese "guest Clubs", that means that every round at least two matches of this league are played in China.

Interest and popularity in football amongst the people will decline as they are getting annoyed by the (oil) money flooding this game and the overall greed by the FIFA, UEFA and the clubs.

David Moyes will win the premier league with City. The year after they're relegated for financial irregularities.

Gary Linekar will retire and Mia Khalifa will become the new host of MOTD

Cristiano Ronaldo JR will win world player of the year at Madrid then spend all summer flirting with Manchester United, he'll stay another summer at Madrid after telling them "Only dad knows the future"
Before moving to Utd and breaking our goalscoring record

Football will be unbearable to watch. Players will spend more time rolling on the ground and cheating all over the pitch. Amount of cheating diving superstar divas will be the end of Sky Sport, Bt Sport and all the other tv networks, because people will stop watching and will unsubscribe...

The greatest minds on this planet will develop an artificial intelligence manager using advanced machines learning algorithms and unsupervised learning techniques like neural networks that has unrivaled success with a 100% win ratio. His name will be 01011001110.

One thing that is sure to change is the broadcasting of games. Most will be online and we will come accustomed to 'smart viewing'
Viewers will be able to choose from 1 of say 30 cameras in various points of the stands. You will also get the audio from your chosen section. So if you want to sit in the corner with the away fans and hear what there signing you can. If you want to view from the dugout, you can.

i also think transfer fees will not increase at the same rate people expect.... Clubs will invest heavily in youth development to counter the outlay of a transfer fee. And players will be more careful about signing contracts as many clubs will not pay 200 mil for say the next Harry Kane, who might have ambitions to play for say Arsenal, who will not spend that much on a player. He will no he will have to run his contract down to get his move.
