It seems even more weird to me because Sunderland had a good youth system for quite a while - what the hell happened
Their youth system has been awful for several years…:

The last time they won a game was august 2018 (away to WBA) - afterwards 8 draws and 33 defeats

11 of those defeats have been by 4 goals or more

It's been 11 months since they last took a Point (when we were 3-1 up against them and they scored the equalized in the 98th minute)

How are their seniors looking? Any youngsters been promoted up to the first team? Just wondered why they're so terrible.
Bali Mumba is with their first team but their biggest problem is that for the past few years they've been losing a lot of their highly rated young players to bigger clubs as was the case with Greenwood going to Arsenal & looks like Pye will be joining us.

He's actually been with their 23s this season, and recently joined South Shields (top of northern prem) on loan... could be because their u23s aren't very good... but you would think he's good enough to be in a league one side at 18, giving he made his debut as a 15 yo in the championship, regardless of the circumstances at the time.

In other words, it suggests they're not doing a very good job at managing talent, hence why the likes of Greenwood and Pye left or are looking for the exit.
