U18s: United vs City

City’s scorer Nico O’Reilly scored a 95th minute scorpion kick winner last week. He’ll have a great highlight reel on You Tube at this rate.

Nice to see that 30 of the 32 players involved including subs on both sides are listed as Englis.

Not sure its legal to bring in from abroad till 18 so hardly unexpected
Scots, Irish etc?
With migration these days there’s plenty of players with dual nationality too. City sub Alfa-Ruprecht is one.

Think he's the biggest 16 year old I've ever seen.

FT United 1-3 City

Jackson scored a header from a corner but City finished it off with a good free kick in the end. A poor performance from United.

A good chance to bounce back quickly as we face Leeds on Tuesday evening.

Our coaching is so bad compared to City, the instructions from the sidelines belong in non league football.

They are both aged 16.
Wow 2 16 year olds could be father and son The big 6 looked a good player as well as just big, but this maybe highlights how United focus on development over winning. They will beleive Lacey given time should become a top player, surely City coaches know that kid in their team should be playing U21 football where he is challenged physically. Be interesting to fast forward 5 years and see where they both are

I don’t think that’s true. There’s freedom of movement still between the UK and Ireland as it predates our previous membership of the EU.
You’re right but for some reason they are operating as if Irish players can’t move until 18 and I believe FIFA may have said they can’t until 18 as clubs were all confused.

But legally you are correct and one legal case pushed by any club for a talented 16 year old will ultimately win. All Irish citizens have the right to live and work in the UK and FIFA has no authority to impede on local employment laws. So for the same reason it doesn’t apply to EU citizens in EU countries. The 18 years old for foreign transfers rule isn’t legally enforceable for Irish players to English clubs.
