New thread because it's time...

Lots of United women away with their international teams this week.

Wales
Sofia Middleton Patel - made her full international debut with Wales. Played the 90 minutes and kept a clean sheet. She also played as a "one match" emergency loanee with Coventry last week.
Hayley Ladd
Carrie Jones (on loan at Leicester)

Ireland
Aoife Mannion is expected to make her debut with them. She's previously played for England junior teams but she's had an Irish passport since she was a kid.

Norway
Ville Boe Risa, Maria Thorisdottir are in the squad

France
Aissatou Tounkara has lost her place in the squad, as she hasn't been playing for us.

England
Mary Earps, Katie Zelem, Ella Toone, Alessia Russo, Maya le Tissier and Emily Ramsey (on loan at Villa.
No Nikita Parris this time.
Greenwood, James and Salmon - our ex-players are in the squad as well.

Scotland
Martha Thomas, Kirstie Hanson (on loan at Villa)

Canada
Adriana Leon.
Their players are currently in dispute with their national FA and had threatened to strike this week. The FA have reduced wages and have cut out some training camps and friendly matches. Bad news for the women preparing for the WWC in the summer - they are currently Olympic Champions and would be expected to do well.

Spain
Speaking of "in dispute" - Ona Batlle and Lucia Garcia are still outside the Spain squad as are the rest of the "15 rebels" who want the manager (Jorge Vilde) sacked.

Probably others as well! Please add any you know about.

Impressed so many in the English side is/has been at United.

Tounkara, hasn’t she been injured?

Spanish associatoon is an authoritarian trainwreck, but what’s going on with Canada? Isn’t it ‘2015’ anymore?

A little bit off topic, but what’s going on with the France national team? A few of their key players seem to be dropping out due to some sort of issue. Anyone know what’s up?

We don't know the details, but we do know that their manager Corinne Diacre has a history of wanting to let players know who's boss, making some arbitrary team selections and then blaming players when things go wrong.

Amandine Henry complained about it after the WWC in 2019, where she described the NT setup and training camp as chaotic.

The French FAs president got forced to resign recently (over comments he made about Zidane) and now accusations of sexual harassment and bullying by him are underway. Whatever is happening there, it sounds like it's the FA organisation that's got a problem, not just one or two people.

Incidentally - Canada's players are in dispute with their FA after the FA changed their contracts and their WWC buildup plans without consultation, as a cost cutting exercise.

The 15 players who left the Spanish team over the management, including Batlle and Garcia, remain outside the team.

I think part of the issue is that the FAs in most countries are running the women's game as an amateur sideline, not to be taken seriously. So on field failures and player complaints that in the men's game get managers sacked don't matter to the FAs. A lot of the women are now playing for clubs that are more professional than their national team.

Earps, Le Tissier, Toone, Russo. Was hoping to see Turner & Zelem there but the strength in depth for England is amazing.

This is the last England squad before the pre-World Cup training camp in June. So we're getting very close to knowing how Wiegman's WWC squad is likely to look.

Interesting to see Rachel Daly listed as a forward again, after being the starting fullback for England during the Euros. Her form for Villa as a striker (13 goals/3 assists) has been exceptional.

She's tried a few different players in the last camps so it'll be interesting to see who makes it to the WC. The four United players who are in this one should make it, which would be quite an ending to the wonderful season for Maya. But she's earned it. And yeah I definitely see Daly being more effective and of use as a forward.

I think you’re right about the national teams. The clubs that are at national top levels at this point have been putting in some effort in that for a while, for different reasons, and the leaders assigned to that will generally have shown to be engaged in the development and success of women’s football in general. However, the national teams are run by the national federations, and the leaders there will often be people who are hoping to ‘climb’ to positions in the men’s game, often older power-o-crats who are nowhere near as talented or as motivated as the athletes them selves. Even in Norway, who have a long history of gender equality developments and the women’s NT as a pride to the nation compared to the men’s team (comparable to the USA situation), and with a woman of great scope being now the leader of the entire football federation (Lise Klaveness), top players like Ada Hegerberg and Caroline Graham Hansen have almost been driven mad by the amateurishness dominating the administrative parts of the game, and in particular in the football federation.

Disappointed that Le Tissier isn’t in the squad but time is on her side. On the other hand I’m delighted for Zelem as she has not always been called up to the squads.

I think most of us do. Weigman says that she views her more as a potential fullback for England, but she's spent the season as a centre back. She's young though, there will be other tournaments for her.
It is almost the situation Aymeric Laporte found himself with France. He plays CB mainly, but Deschamps kept saying he was a LB. They had loads of options in both positions.

With Bright and Bronze both coming back from injuries, and with Maya travelling out with the squad as a reserve, there’s still a slight chance she could be a late call-up.
Agreed she has plenty of time, still feel She deserved the spot though.

How on earth did Blundell & Turner not get a World Cup place??

Our defence was by far and away the best in the league, yet other players who didn't perform anywhere close to them get picked.......very odd indeed......

Mary Earps, Katie Zelem and Ella Toone are with England. Vilde Boe Risa is with Norway. Jayde Riviere and Adriana Leon are with Canada. Anyone I've missed?

Aoife Mannion missed the Irish squad due to injury. Maria Thorisdottir and Lisa Naalsund weren't available for Norway due to injury. Maya le Tissier didn't make the final England 23 player squad.

Ona Batlle and Alessia Russo have left, as have Estel Cascarino and Aissatou Tounkara (France)

Thanks - any ideas if the Canadians and Boe Risa are starters?

Shame for the injured players

I believe Leon is the only sure starter, even with her it’s not guaranteed. Bøe Risa seems to start as often as she comes on as a sub. Riviere hopefully gets some minutes and depending on the results perhaps starts at some point too.

I guess it's difficult to justify starting for your country when you don't get many minutes at club level

I assume that's why Leon left on loan

Just to add a few more players to our ex-players at the tournament list.

We'll also be seeing Alex Greenwood and Lauren James with England; Jackie Groenen with Netherlands; Diane Caldwell with Ireland and Signe Bruun with Denmark.
