Van Gaal new Utd Manager Poll. How happy are you about this appointment?
I would vote the same except it's serious concerns, without it meaning I questiuon his ability. Man management could be exactly what we needs, or go completely tits up.Voted for this, because its the truth
A good manager but I have some small concerns about him - lets see how he gets on.
I seriously doubt Barca would take LVG back for a third stint, the impression I got was that he had burned a lot of bridges there the last time he left. You could argue that he has always left his clubs in a better state than when he arrived and he is the right man to modernize the club and stabilize the ship. For a while I was concerned by the Barcelona vacancy that they might try to get him but I've always wanted him, may be got swayed by the romanticism of Klopp for a while but LvG is the man.
I see where you are coming from but I look at it slightly differently. I think signing quite a few players this summer is a given but there is a limit to how much business we will realistically be able to do this summer. There will be financial constraints but also the constraints of availability among the elite players we will be going after. I think Woodward will be determined to bring in 3 or 4 top quality players but Van Gaal will be able to supplement that with promotions - and also getting more out of some of the players we already have whose development has stalled.Happy about the appointment. A concern is his reputation for promoting youth. I don't want a manager who'll reject big name signings this summer, and opt for a 3/4 year project built on developing young players. That's not what we need now.
Didn't the Barcelona regime change in around 2004 just prior to them buying Ronaldinho? As far as I know he had issues with Cruyff and not many others, he's a manager the likes of Xavi and Iniesta might welcome after being not so pleased with Martino.I seriously doubt Barca would take LVG back for a third stint, the impression I got was that he had burned a lot of bridges there the last time he left.
In fact most other top clubs would've had relatively little interest in LVG, that's why Tottenham was his likely destination before we started looking for a new manager. LVG is by no means a sure, safe bet. He is the best candidate available right now though, and has the potential to set the foundations for success beyond his time here.
As a matter of fact, that is independent from van Gaals age or will. No top club on earth will accept a transition period of more than a year max. It is simply not how the business works any more, new managers are expected to deliver.I dont think Van Gaal will be looking at this as a 3-4 year project.

Ive always been nervous about all this talk of signing 7 or 8 players, it was never realistic but even if it was, I think it would be counterproductive. I think 3 or 4 signings - but the right signings - will be healthier for squad cohesion.
I dont think Van Gaal will be looking at this as a 3-4 year project. At his age I suspect he'll want to see results quicker than that, to make sure he gets the credit for his work himself, rather than (again) being seen as the man who laid the foundations for a successor. This is going to be his last big job so he'll want to go out in style. I could of course be wrong and in the past he has been a man who has laid the groundwork, but if we are looking at his history he has also won titles wherever he has been, so the two are not mutually exclusive.
The main thing is I would be happy for him to promote youth and develop our existing players AS WELL as signing new players, and I think that is what he will do.
