What do we still need? Post Summer 2017 edition

Deli Ali does not look happy at Spurs. It's probably down to the fact that he knows that he could treble his wage if he joined Chelsea or one of the Manchester clubs.

He should be our number one transfer target next summer.

Six years younger than Griezeman and capable of scoring 15-20 goals a season.

Should be a no brainier really, even at £100 million.

Mahrez might be a good choice for what we need. He can play on both wings and central. Might turn out to be a very good option. Don't reckon there are that many high quality touch line hugging wingers around that could make us much better

To compete at the very top we'd need a couple of good full backs/wing backs, a better backup midfielder and another attacker who can score goals.

Well I have read in a few newspapers that Mourinho has sent scouts to watch Sergej Milinkovic-Savic of Lazio. This guy is a box to box midfielder, and is a Giant at over 6' 3" who covers acres of ground. What Mourinho likes. Fellaini will not sign a new contract unless united give him what he wants. This will be Carrick's last year surely. Herrera is expected to sign a new contract soon. So he will need to look at Midfield again next Summer.

There is talk that an oral agreement has been made for Leander Dendoncker of Anderlecht, ( Mirror) not sure if it is true.
Midfield is the engine room of every top team and Mourinho likes to have cover and competition in this area. It would not surprise me if we seen a couple more come in for this area next summer.

pretty obvious we need 2 fullbacks

if Valencia had a decent final ball he could have 10 assists a season - this applies to the left as well and you wonder what's going on with Shaw...he hasn't appeared for the Under-23s I think

we also need 1 special mobile player to play wide.....someone who can beat a man, deliver a good ball, score goals - we are basically looking for the next Robben or Bale - I with my non-existent personal scouting network haven't a clue who that is so we should maybe be looking at Alexis Sanchez on the cheap - he feels City bound tho

Pogba's injury makes you wonder if we have enough in a box to box role.....Fellaini gives you the odd good game and I think Herrera can fill in - maybe one to consider next summer when Carrick probably moves on

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic of Lazio is a Mourinho type of player he is a big strong brute of a player. Sergej is like Fellaini but with much better technical skills and better dribbling and stronger tackling. Sergej would give us a very imposing midfield.

Another player in the Jose Mourinho mould is German defender Jonathan Tah. Jonathan Tah is a fast mobile man mountain. 1.94m and 95kgs of solid muscle the man is a colossus but unlike other giant defenders, the man has the speed to run down any striker. If we got Segej and Jonathan Tah then we could seriously hurt teams and not just on the score board. Players like this could break small technical players in half.

Yes, I know this Jonathan Tah @poacher, but I did not see anywhere that we were interested in him. He is a brute of a man same as Milinkovic-Savic. Just the kind that Mourinho likes.

Really hope we are keeping tabs on Gelson Martins, might be the RW we are sorely missing.

Obligatory YouTube:

The pace and the way he turns defenders inside out

We need a summer like City just had. A whole new set of full-backs, with possibly any of Shaw, Young, Blind and Darmian leaving.

Danny Rose would be a great start, and hopefully the scouts can find some other talented full back(s) for a lesser price. Sidibe can play left and right comfortably and may be worth a shout. Rose and Sidibe, along with one forward player should be enough for us. With Carrick going we may want to do something there too.

I think we'll be in for another CM, we've been linked with several in the last week, all big unit types, so I imagine Mourinho is looking to groom another DM under Matic who only got a 3 year deal.

Left back (Rose), right back (Semedo), CM that can fill multiple roles but is primarily box to box (Milinkovic-Savic), right winger/forward (Sanches/Mahrez)...160-180 million cost minus few sales to recuperate some costs (40-50 million) for 120-140 million net spend. Strengthening key areas that we are weak at and adding some needed depth.

I think we should wait and see what Rose looks like when he comes back from this knee injury, without his speed and athelticism he's not great, also Semedo just signed for Barca in the summer.

Have you seen Crystal Palace this season. I have watched all their games and TFM has been their best defender. Why should we shell out money on someone else. Tierney of Celtic looks the best young left back around

I've only seen Palace twice and once was against us, wasn't TFM playing as a wingback in their system? I think he's fine as a defender but RB is as much about attacking in the modern game, I'd like to see us try for Meunier who is now getting less game time due to Alves.

We are finally getting to the position where we do not need five new players every summer.

I think we will find out if Shaw is a good option by the end of the season. I and still hopefully as he showed a lot of talent early on.

I am reasonably happy with Valencia and Young actually.

I think that updgrades to any of the three attacking positio a behind Lukaku must be considered. We have good players there but none that can be consider world class.

Griezmann and a fit Bale (doesn't exist) would be a perfect summer IMO.

Haven't really heard this discussed much, but definitely a decent shout. I shudder to think of what Levy will demand of us, though.

Meunier for right back. Tierney for left back.

We can upgrade on Mkhi at #10, think we will most likely be back in for Griezmann.

Midfield - assuming Carrick retires/leaves, and Fellaini and Herrera sign new contracts I don't see anyone coming in.

On the right depends on Mata contact situation, and if Jose get tempted to try Rashford there we won't sign anyone.

Like this. Meunier might be difficult to sign but we can certainly get Tierney. Griezmann I'm not so sure about. I'd prefer Pulisic.

Meunier did a interview the other day saying he was frustrated at not playing every week. If he's still Alves back up at end of the season think he'd be well up for the move.

Alves won't be at PSG for long. He might even leave after this year. They have already sold Aurier. I don't think they'll let him leave so easily even if he wants to join us. PSG are a hard club to deal with if they don't want to sell a player. Just look at what happened to Barca.

Maybe Mourinho thinks that a player of the serbian (or austrian??) national team could be a good addition for us, since he was in Vienna last night, watching Austria - Serbia.

I think we should focus on our shaky defense. Definitely a pair of full backs, and perhaps a center back who can walk into our first team who doesn't need "time to adjust."

Alaba on the way.:wenger:

I think Young playing well might see us wait another year to buy Valencia's replacement. I could see the summer consisting of a RW and an LB being brought in and Zlatan leaving, Darmian being sold to a Serie A side and Carrick retiring with Pereira taking his place (not exactly but Herrera or even Fosu-Mensah or Lindelof can take Carrick's minutes at DM):

-------------Lukaku-------- (Rashford)
Martial----Mkhitaryan-RW (Mata, Rashford, Lingard, Pereira)
---------Matic---Pogba----- (Herrera, Fellaini, Pereira)
LB-----------------Valencia (Young, Shaw, Blind, Fosu-Mensah)
------Jones-----Bailly------ (Rojo, Smalling, Lindelof, Fosu-Mensah)
-----------De Gea---------- (Romero)

Only real concern is that for balance, you'd probably rather see one of Lingard or Pereira gone and a proper striker and DM in the squad, but Martial and Rashford will be better 9s than whoever we could get as bench fodder anyways.

Only 2 signings, so one can probably be huge like Griezmann or Bale and an overpay at LB like Rose.

We need a new #10, someone for the RW plus a left back.

The way the market is going that is a solid £200m investment.

I agree that those should be the 3 priorities, then if possible add another RB and a young DM to understudy Matic.

Not possible to buy that many players of the desired quality in one window. Perhaps for the Citeh's and PSG's, but we got limits.

The DM would be young and shouldn't cost more than £25-30M. I don't think we are incapable of matching the spending of City, we just try to be more rational in how we spend.

A new lb is a no brainier maybe even another player who can play both full back positions.

A midfielder who can play in a midfield two and a top class attacking player like Griezmann or Dybala.

In a perfect world we'd get RB, LB, CM, RW and possibly even a new 10. But that would cost 250m.

In the modern game the attack is the most vital thing, all the elite teams have top quality in that front 4, we need to upgrade the RW and #10 as priorities and sort LB out, those are the crucial ones, then we can see how the land lies.

I think we should be building an attack around Lukaku and Martial really so a top number ten and a top attacking forward on the right are both needed. Griezmann would be one of them.

We also need a left back who has some serious attacking threat. It should be a costly summer that's for sure.

You're not worried about a 33 year old Valencia next season? Should we trust TFM there? Darmian isn't good enough.
