What do you do if players don't want to play for a manager?

The problem at United is much worse than we think. If players do not seem to want to play for the manager, then it really does not matter who the manager is or how good he is. Looking at the inconsistent performances at United, it is hard to imagine that the players genuinely want to play for this manager. So what do you do next? Do you:
  • Back the manager and accept that it will likely get worse before it gets better?
  • Back the players over the manager on the basis that it is easier?
  • Let results and performances dictate what you do next?

It's way overblown about players downing tools, yes there may be a few disgruntled players but ask any ex manager and they will tell you it is normal.

We have to face the fact that we just had poor managers tactically, recruitment and man management wise as well.

Ole, ten hag and ragnick all came from minnow leagues with no proven pedigree in the top European leagues.

Mourinho was well on his way to being a spent force by the time he arrived at united and he self imploded in his 3rd season just like he has he has done at other clubs, he has had to drop a level and go to spurs and roma just get hired and has not even been able to get a top 4 spot with either team despite united fans acting like he was still some great manager when he got sacked.

As for moyes, we all knew he was going to fail and has and always will be nothing but a mid table epl manager with mid table mentality trying to manager elite minded players at the time.

Lvg was way past his best as a club manage and had no signs of players throwing him under the bus, he made a lot of odd transfer decisions and put players in odd positions and who can forget mcnair and Blackett, in his second season he made more odd transfers with schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin and going with a declining Rooney as his main striker and even trying to make him a midfielder and eventually had to resort to bringing up rashford to cling onto our season which saw us narrowly lose out on top 4 to city and win the the fa cup but got dumped because the board had their sights on the available mourinho

The most important thing is to be a good manager, then the players will respond. If the manager makes the same mistakes repeatedly making it harder to win then the players will lose faith, especially when the manager blames the players to cover up the repetitive blunders.

When we finally hire a good manager we'll look back and laugh at the six guys who followed Fergie. None of them had any business managing us apart from Mourinho but he was no longer at the peak of his powers.

There is no indication that players don't want to play for the manager. We can't say they are "downing tools" one week and then they're not the other week. In case the manager does fall out with majority of the squad then you can't back him because it's much easier to replace him than the players. And if that really happens, perhaps the manager was the problem after all.
